Chapter 21
21. Ciara heard her front door slam and looked up from her mirror. "What the hell?" She yelled. Her mother stormed into the room looking crazy. Ciara was terrified for a moment. "Your dog has lost his mind!" She screamed. "What are you talking about now?” Her father stumbled in behind her mother. He looked worse than before as he collapsed on a chair. "Adrian!” Her mother spat. "That bastard!" Ciara slowly got up. "What about Adrian?" She asked, annoyed. "Why are you saying his name like that? I told you I don’t want to hear anything about him!” Her mother threw her shawl to the floor. “He humiliated us in front of everyone!" Ciara frowned. “Humiliated you? How could he possible do that?” Her mother paced around like a mad woman. "We went to that manor that was just bought from—” “Why?" "For your father!" Her mother yelled. "He's dying, in case you forgot! And they said a miracle healer was there!” Her mother pointed at the door like Adrian was

22. "Her royal majesty Princess Sue of the Storm Kingdom requests your presence, sir.” The messenger said. Adrian wiped his hands with a clean cloth and looked up calmly. He had been told that he had a messenger from the palace but he didn’t know it was from the neighboring kingdom. "The princess?" He asked. "Yes. The lovely princess Sue." Macy, who had heard what was happening came out happily. “You must go!” Adrian nodded, he couldn’t say no and disrespect the good woman and her kingdom. "Tell her I will come." A few days later, Adrian was at the palace. It was impressively bigger than the palace of his kingdom, but he didn’t mind. He found the space to be more peaceful. He was dressed in clean plain clothes. "Her Highness is waiting in the garden." A royal maid said, leading him. Princess Sue stood near a fountain with the sunlight making her pale blue dress almost sparkle. When she saw Adrian, she smiled. "Adrian!” He bowed slightly. "Your highness. T
Chapter 23
23. Adrian stood near one of the tall pillars at the corner of the hall. He wore simple dark clothes again and watched the merriment. The venue was beautiful, to say in the least, and there were dignitaries moving around dresses in beautiful garments and jewels, with even rewarded nobility showcasing their ranks and medals. He did not try to blend in, hell, he didn't even like the space. A group of generals stood not far from him. Their armour had been polished for the night, and their medals were on them too. They looked extremely serious. "The king will announce it tonight." One of them said. "He has to." He replied. "The borders are getting worse, and the suspense is too much." Another one crossed his arms and nodded. He had a scar across his chin. "The new knight must be strong, we cannot have some soft noble boy wrecking things for us." "Of course not." The first scoffed. "His highness would never embarrass the crown like that." They all nodded. Adrian listened
Chapter 24
24.The head servant walked up to the group of generals with pride. The box was still in his hands, and he acted like it was his, smiling proudly. The scarred general was laughing at something one of the others had said when the head servant stopped in front of him and bowed. "General." He said with confidence, holding the box out. "I believe this belongs to you. It's something I was able to hold and I wanted to gift you as a token of my pride for you." The general turned around, interested when he heard about a present for him. "What is it?" "A gift for you, sir." The general's eyes dropped to the box and his smile dropped instantly. He snatched it from the head servant's hands. "You filthy animal! You stole this!" The general yelled. "This is mine!" "No, I didn't! Im so sorry, I didn't!" The servant was fucking terrified. If only he had just minded his business. "Where did you get this?" The general asked. The head servant raised his hands, still smiling that

25. All eyes were on Ciara now as she walked proudly to Adrian with destruction in her eyes. The fallen general was being lifted by two other men and he looked at Adrian in fear. He wasn't sure what had happened, but he now knew that Adrian was no ordinary man! As for Ciara, she stood with her arms folded. Her servant uniform was tighter and prettier than the others, fitted to show her curves. She was pretty abd she knew it but what she couldn't bear was the sight of her ex-husband. "Well, look what crawled back." Adrian did not react. It had been a long day already and he had no time for unserious activities. "What are you doing here, motherfucker?" She asked loudly. "Did the streets finally chew you up and spit you out?" A few people exchanged looks. Adrian sighed softly, not wanting a scene. "Good evening, Ciara." "Don't you dare say my name like that!" She snapped. "You quit this palace like you had pride. And now look at you standing here back to being an ordin
Chapter 26
26. Prince Henry looked at her like she was something dirty stuck to his shoe. If he knew that hanging out with her would cause him this much problems, he wouldn’t have bothered fucking her then. “What did you call her?” Henry asked. “You slapped me!” “You embarrassed me, servant!” He said coldly. "You embarrassed yourself, and you insulted someone you have no right to even look at directly." Ciara spat. “Because of her? You hit me because you’re fucking this sorry piece?” "Watch your mouth! Don’t you know you’re talking to the princess?” Henry snapped at her. Ciara looked at princess Sue up and down again. She noticed the diamonds on her dress and her impeccable posture. Her heart dropped into her stomachs How was she just seeing all this? "Princess?" She asked, looking from Princess Sue to Adrian, and then to Henry. Nobody was laughing. Princess Sue was still calm, even though she had a look of pure annoyance on her face. "You will apologise to her now, yo

27. The king sat on his throne and looked at his guests with pride. They were excitedly speaking, waiting for the new announcement. Then, he raised his hand. The hall fell silent at once. Adrian stood a few steps behind Princess Sue, with a calm look on his face r despite what happened earlier. Percival stood not far from the king, getting eyed by his adoring fans, meanwhile, bis eyes were on bis target. Then king began to speak. "My people! Tonight is not only a banquet. It is a night of great honour. We have faced threats at our borders. We have faced enemies who believed we were weak, who believed we were divided." Murmurs of agreement spread out and dispersed. "But..." He continued. "A single man changed the tide for us! A man who stood where trained generals failed in spite of mockery! A man who gave us a battle strategy so sharp that our enemies fled before dawn." The generals were uncomfortable now, they didn't know who the king was referring to. "One hero was al

28. The hall was a mess. Princess Sue stood in the middle of it all, her chest rising fast, her face red with rage. She pointed to the king. "How dare you?" She screamed. "How do you fucking dare to try to kill me in this filthy court?" The king stood from his throne, his jaw tight. "Sue—" "It is Princess Sue to you!" She snapped at him. "Someone just tried to slit my throat in your hall!" Adrian stood behind her. The system told him t f the threat was gone, but he was still suspicious. Prince Henry looked like he wanted to disappear. "You call this protection? You call this honour?" "For the love of— it was one traitor, and he is dead." A lord said. Tbe princess turned to him. "One traitor?" She repeated. "You think that bastard acted alone? You expect me to believe a trusted man of this court suddenly woke up and thought, 'Ah yes, today I will murder a princess'?" She pointed toward Percival's lifeless body being dragged away. "That snake had backing and

29. After Ciara was sent out of the ball, she decided that the best thing to do would be to stop at the castle. Perhaps she could run into Percival when he returned with the king. She knew he would definitely have good news! She stood by the long wooden table in the kitchen, cutting herbs gently. She wasn’t a kitchen servant, but she had done all her assigned work and needed to while away time as she listened for any indication of their arrival. Suddenly she heard voices and the side door burst open. Three maids stumbled in, still wearing their work dresses from the banquet. They looked tired but excited at the same time. “I can’t believe I got to experience this in this lifetime!" One of them gasped. "I swear on my mother's grave, I thought she was dead for sure!" Ciara lowered her head so they wouldn't see the spark in her eyes. Dead? She knew it! Her plan had worked. "Dead? Who are you talking about?" Ciara turned to them, asking. The girls crowded around the ta

30. Adrian was all too aware of the eyes on him as he moved around the palace. The many servants around stopped talking when he passed to stare, and even some guards stood up straighter but visiting nobles were always watching him with distrust. He was headed to check the closest thing he could which was about Percival, and that was his work chamber. Two guards stood before the gate of Percival's work place in the palace when Adrian got there. "Open it.” Adrian said. One of them shook his head. “Sir... the king said the room is to remain sealed until…” "Until I start my investigation.” Adrian said calmly. "Which I just did." The guards unlocked the door and he made his way into the office immediately. The room smelled faintly of sweet smelling oils and metal, and there were weapons lining the walls. Adrian walked up to the lone desk, picking up a piece of paper, There was nothing on it. He was about to continue looking when he heard someone clapping. “Well, wha
