A Stick In The Mud
“Yup, I’m definitely dead this time!”Heaving out a deep sigh, Duncan silently cursed his bad luck that had gotten him into this mess in the first place. As he took a breath, a strange musty scent, like that of fresh dirt dug from deep within the earth, tickled his nostrils.Thump! Thump! As he rapped his fists against the ground, a hollow sound greeted Duncan’s ears along with the feeling of hard soil shifting loosely from his strikes. The space was cramped as Duncan lay flat on what seemed like solid earth, his head barely able to lift up a few inches before striking a solid barrier above him, letting down a trickle of dirt in the process that spilled onto his face.It was dark, the lacking light making it impossible for Duncan to see, yet every single clue gathered pointed to a terrifying conclusion, one Duncan was unwilling to accept…As he almost panicked, a sense of claustrophobia assaulted Duncan’s mind, the darkness and tight space causing a strain on his wits that threatened
A Desolate Site
In a desolate wilderness, night shrouded an empty field in a blanket of fog and darkness, a windless howl echoing eerily through the vast expanse, its presence cold and hauntingly reminiscent of a ghostly wail.Except for the ghostly howls, everything was deathly silent. Occasionally there would come a rustling in the ground, like the sound of earth shifting, that would be later drowned out by the howls.Just then, a muffled sound, much louder than any other in the wilderness, came from within the earth.Bang! It was the sound of something being struck, followed by a relentless pounding which caused the noise to increase steadily, disturbing the eerie peace of the wilderness.Bang! Bang! Bang! The pounding continued unstoppably, with every passing second making it more and more audible, until finally, with a mighty push, a patch of earth was forcefully broken through by a gloved fist ascending from underground, revealing an arm that was covered in dirt and grime and in a state of comp
Supernatural Detective
“This is bad…”Inwardly panicking, Duncan watched as the single clock hand continued to tremble, with every passing second seeming like it would suddenly move forward another degree.Thankfully, what he feared didn’t occur, which allowed Duncan to breathe out in relief.Completely forgetting about the foul odor surrounding him, Duncan’s mind immediately wandered to the most pressing matter at hand.“What was that just now?”Duncan’s mind spun, his memory going back to the moment before he suddenly fell weakly to his knees.“Before it happened, I heard a howling sound like that of a passing draft without any wind accompanying it. Yet in the next moment, I suddenly felt something enter my body and pass through.”“That’s when I suddenly lost all my strength and fell to the ground… what in hell could’ve caused this?”Recalling everything that happened, Duncan found everything to be very bizarre and mysterious. In fact, everything about this ordeal was bizarre and mysterious, yet apart fro
Ghost Realm
“Given the current circumstances, I’d say that I’m likely inside some kind of secret realm with a very strong possibility of it being related to ghosts.”“The barren wilderness, death-like stillness, and that sudden weakness that overcame me moments ago… all of these point to haunting ghosts or similar spectral entities.”Sigh!Arriving at this conclusion, Duncan sighed once again, his frustration mounting as he double-checked the various clues just to reach the same conclusion. His final conclusion was based on years of extensive jaw-dropping and near-death experiences in dealing with such phenomena, and needless to say, he wasn’t exactly happy with what he concluded.“Not again,” Duncan lamented in exasperation.“Of all the black-bellied creatures I could possibly be dealing with, why did it have to be ghosts?”His face wore an expression of helplessness as he fell deep in thought…Regarding ghosts, out of all the supernatural entities that existed in the world, ghosts were some of
Another Victim
“This ghost realm sure is huge—how much energy would it require to create something like this, and just how terrifying is the entity that did it?”Duncan spoke to himself while sitting on the bare ground, his body covered completely in dirt and sweat.Raising a dirty hand, Duncan wiped the beads of sweat that dotted his forehead, his face clearly marked with exhaustion as his eyes stared far off into the foggy distance in contemplation, looking like someone with a severe case of homesickness. The handkerchief over Duncan’s face was already black in color, but he didn’t care as it was the only thing keeping the horrible stench at bay, making it much easier to cope in this vile environment.Several hours had already passed since Duncan escaped from his grave, and following the compass, he had traversed a considerable distance from his original location.By his estimates, Duncan thought he’d traveled about ten kilometers, a feat that left his legs sore and his neck and shoulders aching w
Bizarre Transformation
Keeping his doubts in mind, Duncan continued to uncover the rest of the body buried in the earth, and in the process, examined the corpse very closely.A few minutes later, Duncan had successfully uncovered most of the body, at which point he stopped.Looking at the body, Duncan frowned slightly. Much to his surprise, the body was very fresh and well preserved, with no signs of decomposition, as if it hadn’t been long since he had died. But that shouldn’t be possible—from what Duncan knew, the last person to be reported missing had disappeared over a week ago, so unless this body belonged to someone who had disappeared in the last few days, it shouldn’t be in such pristine condition. Not dwelling too much on this point, Duncan started taking mental notes as he continued observing the body.“The victim is a white male of average height with a sturdy build and well-defined muscles, wearing a casual evening outfit consisting of a set of plain shirt and trousers that fit loosely on the bo
Cursed Objects
“Should I consider myself lucky for not ending up like this poor fellow?” Duncan said to himself, referring to how he was able to escape while this person hadn’t.“No, there isn’t a single element of luck that was responsible for how I was able to escape the grave. The only difference between me and this guy, besides the fact that he’s dead while I’m still breathing, is that I am better equipped to handle these kinds of situations and happened to possess the right tools for the job.”“This isn’t luck... it’s a curse!”While thinking this, Duncan looked down at his hands—specifically speaking, he was looking at the worn-out gloves that were tightly wrapped around his hands.Fingerless and drab-looking, they resembled a pair of plain old leather biker gloves without all the bling and shine. They were thick, covering the palm and back of his hands like armor, but offered little in the way of protection for his fingers, leaving them looking vulnerable and exposed... and yet, despite diggi
Zombie
Back at the gravesite...Several minutes after the victim’s corpse got reanimated and walked away, Duncan finally revealed his head out from behind the mound of soil he had created while digging the grave. This was where he had hidden after realizing that something was wrong.Peeking out carefully, Duncan confirmed that everything was okay before finally coming out from behind the dirt mound. As far as hiding places go, the dirt mound was definitely not the best place Duncan could’ve thought of; but it was his only option at the time, and in hindsight, Duncan’s decision proved to have been right.Sigh!“I guess this time I really was lucky that everything turned out okay for me and I wasn’t discovered,” Duncan said to himself, exhaling a breath of relief at the same time.Regarding what had just happened, Duncan was both surprised and happy at the same time.Witnessing what had happened, one of Duncan's doubts regarding why people were disappearing into this ghost realm in the first p
Zombie Horde
“Fuck me! What the hell am I going to do about this?”His voice soft, Duncan cursed uncontrollably while making an effort to restrain himself from shouting out loud—a feat that proved quite difficult given the situation he found himself in currently.Right now, Duncan lay prone, his belly flat on the ground as he snuck a peek into the distance while trying to remain hidden.Just ahead was the entire reason Duncan was in such a sour mood: it was a flock of mindless zombies walking around stiffly and in great number, like a bunch of brainless fans gathered together to attend the concert of their favorite idol. The sheer number of them was staggering, and from where he was, Duncan could already count over thirty, with many more existing beyond his view. This was already more than he estimated the number of people that had reportedly gone missing to be, meaning that there were many more victims than previously imagined.“Just how long has this ghost realm existed?” Duncan wondered to hims
A Living Person
“What is that?”Toward his left, there was a disturbance that caught Duncan’s attention, causing him to look closely at what was happening. At first, Duncan couldn’t figure out exactly what the disturbance was about, but as he continued to observe, he saw what looked like a person running frantically in his direction.“Is that a zombie?” Duncan asked himself, confused by what he was seeing.Duncan doubted it was actually a zombie that was running in such a manner; so far, none of the other zombies he had seen could even get their legs to move at the speed of a light jog, not to talk of full-on sprinting like an Olympic runner. But if it wasn’t a zombie, then what was doing the running? It didn’t take long for the figure that was running to come close enough for Duncan to get a clear look at it, and when he saw what it was, Duncan couldn’t contain his shock.“Is that a person?”It is no wonder that Duncan was surprised—all along, he'd thought that the only things present in this ghost
