A dare from Hailey
Maverick rubbed his chin gently. He was trying to decide whether to upgrade his mental and physical stage or reveal a random skill card given by the system. After around two minutes of brainstorming, his curiosity won. He could not assume the next skill he may unfold from the system. "Can I unlock the skill card you get? My curiosity is tingling." Maverick scratched his nape lightly as he requested. [Of course, Master Maverick. Let me help you with it.] [A SKILL CARD UNLOCKED! You possess outstanding medical skills. With this skill, you are capable of healing various kinds of illnesses. You also understand the differences between traditional and modern medical treatments. Perhaps, you may combine both of them when you heal people. Please use it wisely, Master.] Those words were like a superpower he used to see in an old film on television. Yet, the fact he just realized was not a mere fantasy. It was a real skill he got from the system. At that point, the system seemed to re
An unexpected offer
Hailey smiled in a satisfied look. Her plan went well, not just in her imagination. Even, Sally tugged a joyful smile although it was beyond her expectation that Maverick would give up and let them order the drinks confidently. "Excuse me, Dolce latte large and espresso shaken large." Sally declared to the female barista. She became the representative of her bestie, Hailey. After that, Maverick scanned the barcode to complete the payment. A loud beep greets when the payment is made. Maverick who witnessed the truth beamed confidently. For another time, his dignity as a poor student rose from a miserable fate. "Are you happy now? It was paid completely," He claimed sarcastically. Deep down in his heart, he was ready to mock them back, but it was useless. Should he do that, it would make him no difference with them, the same fierce and merciless people. Sally and Hailey blinked in their astonishment. Though the barista created their orders, their attention was still on Maver
Assuring Sophia
Acknowledging the sudden offer, the astonishment crept into Maverick's heart. He was stunned instead of happy to hear the job offer. It might be silly to see that kind of scene, but it was how Maverick reacted. "A-any positions? Is this real, Ms?" Maverick stammered. He felt it was impossible to find jobs based on preferences, especially those with exact training sessions. As far as he knew, the office jobs were mostly based on particular expertise. "Yes, it is, Mr. Parker. I'm serious about this offer. This thing can be an advantage for you as a university student." Sophia was persuaded as she sat still in the wheelchair. She even managed to tug a smile, channeling positivity in her tone. Then, Maverick paused the talk for a few minutes. He allowed his logic to work on a specific solution, particularly regarding the effects of taking positions in Hampton Corporation. Moreover, his dream as a finance manager owning his own room appeared in his mind. It always fueled his ambit
Proving his words
Maverick nodded in agreement. Deep in his thought, he could have asked for more things in return. Yet, it would tarnish his public image, as he was just a student. He was not someone with a wealthy circumstance, as rich as Sophia Hampton. "Alright. Tell me what medical equipment you need? I'll ask Dorris to accompany you," Sophia ordered gently. She had already predicted that Maverick might need some money to buy additional equipment to heal her legs. Maverick glanced at the old woman hesitantly. He then stared at her legs carefully, attempting to find out if they required complex medical equipment for healing. After less than five minutes, he responded, "Yes, I have to go to the drug store, but this kind of case may work with a certain method instead of equipment." "Certain method??" Sophia furrowed her brows. She demanded further explanation on the mentioned term. Yet, it did not trigger Maverick's initiative
Being outcast
Another evening came. It was the same time for Maverick to fight with house chores and exhaustion. However, in the middle of ironing the clothes, he accidentally let the iron step on Marshall's favorite shirt. As he realized the big hole in its fabric, he was at a loss for words for a second. Following his panic, Maverick felt his heart was pounding, as if it would explode from his chest. The scene when his uncle was mad at him appeared in his brain. He knew how Marshall would react when somebody had ruined his favorite thing. "I'm in trouble now." He muttered in his breath. At that point, he began to think of how to buy the same new shirt since he was no longer short of money. However, before he folded the shirt, Marshall appeared, and his eyes flashed with fury. He knew how the hole in his shirt existed. "What the hell have you done! It's my favorite shirt, dude!" He complained. His hands took the shirt and checked the hole instinctively. His loud complaint soon attracted
Enduring the mockery
Heading to the Treasure Palace hotel, Maverick sat in the back passenger seat alone. The cold breeze of the taxi's air conditioner bruised his skin tenderly. At that moment, the driver stared at him, through the rearview mirror. His dark orbs were laced with wonder at why the young man resolved to go to a hotel alone. The driver gently cleared his throat and opened the conversation, "Are you fleeing from your house, Sir?" Maverick turned his head, staring at the driver from the back. He beamed a little, yet he didn't wanna reveal the truth. "Yeah, you can say like that. Besides that, I also look for a new permanent place to stay," He added. The driver smiled for a few seconds. He could make several assumptions about why the young man escaped from the house. Yet, he didn't throw judgment since he felt it was rude to do such a thing to a stranger. Consequently, he reacted, "Kind of independent young man. Are you pla
The VIP room
As he had obtained the keys and the specific Wi-Fi code, Maverick was accompanied by a bellboy assigned by Amelia, the receptionist at the counter. "Which floor are you up to, sir?" the bell boy politely asked as he stood next to Maverick inside the elevator. "Thirtieth floor, please," Maverick mentioned. His expression was ,calm although he felt proud to have had a rare chance to stay on the top floor, known as the VIP rooms with complete facilities and exclusive services. The bellboy pressed the floor number willingly. His orbs gleamed in admiration. The only reason for it was that the young man was lucky to have an expensive VIP room. Plus, he noticed that Maverick was much younger than him. "It must be nice to have enough money for a VIP room, isn't it?" The bell boy sneakily broke the silence. Maverick glanced at him casually. "Yeah, nicer than being disrespected by your own family," Maverick responded in a salty tone. Honestly, there was still bitterness in his orbs.
Checking the status
An hour onwards, Maverick had finished bathing. His upper body was slightly wet, soaked by the water, as was his hair. After he got out of the room, he put on a bathrobe. The freshness of soap and herbal shampoo, which he used, lingered on his skin and hair. At that point, he realized that he had not gotten new clothes for change. Therefore, he planned to spend some amount of money, based on the given mission. However, he had to check his current status in the system panel. "Can I see my updated status now, system?" Maverick asked in his mind. [Sure, Master. Here it is!] [WELCOME TO THE EXTRAVAGANT POWER SYSTEM. HERE IS YOUR CURRENT STATUS!] [Master's name: Maverick Parker] [Body: 15 points (weak)] [Mind and soul: 20 points (weak)] [Extra points: 35 points] [Skills: Sensible Analytical Skill, Outstanding Medical Skill]
Failed to be humiliated
"Here are the food and drink, sir," The waitress returned with a tray filled with fish and chips and a glass of fresh orange juice. Maverick nodded and smiled heartily. Then, he replied warmly, "Thank you, Ms." "You're welcome. Hopefully, it is enjoyable and meets your expectations." The waitress beamed in a friendly way before she left. In another second, Maverick enjoyed the warm fish and chips served on a hot plate. Its steam spread the tempting savory aroma that rose his appetite. Besides the deep-fried fish and French fries on the plate, there were assorted veggies on its side, balancing with the oily dishes. Whenever he had savoured every bite of it and drunk the juice, Maverick stood from his seat. He then walked to the cashier's counter where the manager supervised the eatery. At that point, Robert grinned and asked, "How would you like to pay for the bill, sir? By cash or credit card?"

Fulfilling the mission
Having the shopping bags in both of his hands, Maverick strolled and passed the stores around, joining with other passersby. He noticed it was around 10.35PM, exceeding his normal bedtime. Yet, it didn't mind for him since he still required a pair of new sneakers to wear. For about ten minutes, Maverick stood right at the store that sold branded shoes with high-end quality. The dummies were placed at the front, raising his intention to check for more models inside. While he stepped in, by no plans, he spotted Ella Coleman with her best friends. The campus's empress looked relaxed and happy as she exchanged words and tried the sneakers she chose with her two female friends, Claire and Renee. The beauty of Ella successfully startled Maverick. Her perfect dreamy smiles, combined with twin dimples on her cheeks, made his heart flutter more. Even, he could hear her sweet laughter although it was just a glimpse. <
