“KNOCK! KNOCK!” The loud knocks were apprehended multiple times. It certainly awoke Maverick, the owner of the room. Following those annoying knocks, the intense yell joins, “Wake up, you, Slacker‼ There is a lot to do this morning!”

“Hmm..” Maverick hummed as he was getting himself together. Then, he got down from his small bed, stepping out from the room, passing his aunt, Louisa, madly staring at him. Through her brown orbs, it was obvious she despised him, although he was her own nephew.

At that time, as he reached downstairs, Maverick immediately went to the kitchen, and a stack of dirty plates greeted him in the sink. Without uttering a word, he soaked and rinsed the plates with the provided water and soap. While he was busy with the dishes, his cousin, Asher, showed his little achievement in a few classes at the university.

“Dad, I got an A on the calculus individual project and chemistry some take-home quizzies,” Asher proudly mentioned as he sliced a piece of bacon and ate it.

“Oh my goodness! You’re really marvelous, my boy!” Louisa praised her dearest son willingly. To her, personally, Asher Parker was the only son she could always cherish, despite his troublemaker nature, both at the school and the university.

Asher tugged a wide smile on his chubby face. It showed his satisfaction with getting achievements, although it was not purely from his efforts. At that point, Maverick, with his busy hands, recalled bitter memories when his cousin abruptly forced him to do the homework. Therefore, he was not able to sleep early. It made him exhausted since the tasks were difficult enough to finish.

Moreover, as he had finished washing up, Maverick pulled a chair and sat next to Asher. “Look! The useless brat doesn’t know his place well.” Asher insults with a mocking smile on his face.

“What do you mean, Asher? I’m sitting here to have breakfast, just like what you are doing with your parents.” Maverick queried. His frowning forehead was accompanied by annoyed gazes in his sapphire orbs.

Asher smirked as he stared at Maverick disgustingly. “But, this table is not for a filthy boy like you, Maverick. I even lose my appetite after you land your ass here.” He sneered. He really hated Maverick, although they were cousins and grew up together in the same house. The only reason was that Maverick had been a living burden in his family. He knew Maverick’s fate was miserable, but Asher didn’t care about it.

“Don’t be too rude, Asher. He is your cousin.” Marshall pretended to be an angel for Maverick. However, deep inside his heart, he wanted to cast his nephew away from his house. He just needed the right chance to make it real.

“Fine. I’ll eat somewhere else!” Maverick, without any hesitation, responded coldly. His mood was somewhat ruined by Asher’s rude words. Before he took his leave, he took a can of coffee served on the table, along with a few other beverages. Then, he disappeared as he sipped the coffee carefully while walking with his backpack.

Fifteen minutes later, Maverick got off the bus as he noticed the gate of the university he relied on for his studies. The hunger in him groaned, sending signals to be tamed, and he was frustrated a bit. Strolling calmly with ideas to heal his hunger, Maverick then decided to buy a sandwich at the cafeteria.

"The total is four dollars and fifty cents," The cashier staff told him once she had scanned the sandwich.

Without any hesitation, Maverick handed in the five-dollar notes to the staff. It was the last note he had since the day he would earn his salary as a delivery man was still slightly longer. "Thank you," He responded as he received changes and a pack of sandwiches.

Gently reaching the table, near one of the windows, Maverick carried a packet of tuna sandwiches. While he was sitting on the chair, his hands were busy unwrapping the plastic of the food. His stare expressed how hungry he was. It was no wonder that he acted like a grumpy tiger since he only got a can of coffee as he stepped out of his home.

"At least, this little food can save me before the class is up." He murmured to himself.

Thus, he took a mouthful bite, letting the savory sensation touch his tongue. Yet, it was not longer than a few minutes. A sudden tap on his left shoulder distracted him. "Enjoying your breakkie, bro?" Aiden Scotch, one of the biggest bullies in Sunny Drive University, teased. His evil smirk appeared as he stared at Maverick.

Maverick, acknowledging how bad Aiden was, stammered, "E-em, I-I am."

"No need to be nervous like that, Mavvie. I only want to make sure that you know where you are sitting at now." Cooper Stone, a young man in his red hoodie, added. The light anger peeked in his stare towards Maverick.

Realizing the words uttered, Maverick immediately stood up and apologized, "I-I'm sorry. I don't mean to sit at your place, Coop."

Then, at the same minute, Dean, the best friend of Cooper and Aiden, appeared. He replied rudely, "Enough with the sorry word, Mavvie. It makes me sick as always. It is not once or even twice for you to sit on our seats in the cafeteria!"

"But, I really just realized it. I don't mean to sit here for a long time. Once I'm done with my meals, I'll go for real." Maverick explained that although he knew it would set him free from trouble.

Aiden sighed as he took the sandwich from Maverick's hands. He also threw it away and snorted, "Fine! But I'm still not okay with that."

Understanding the furious tone in Aiden's speech, Maverick immediately stood up with a pack of sandwiches in his right hand. "Fine. I'll go now. You all don't have to be salty," He chose to back down.

Yet, it doesn't calm down the furious flame of the bullies. Dean then declared, "It's not that easy, dude. Let's finish this in the backyard!"

With those utterances, Maverick was grabbed by Aiden and Cooper. They even threw the remaining sandwich away while they took the weak Maverick to the destined place. The scenery caused several assumptions among the students from other faculties.

  • A dare from Hailey

Maverick rubbed his chin gently. He was trying to decide whether to upgrade his mental and physical stage or reveal a random skill card given by the system. After around two minutes of brainstorming, his curiosity won. He could not assume the next skill he may unfold from the system. "Can I unlock the skill card you get? My curiosity is tingling." Maverick scratched his nape lightly as he requested. [Of course, Master Maverick. Let me help you with it.] [A SKILL CARD UNLOCKED! You possess outstanding medical skills. With this skill, you are capable of healing various kinds of illnesses. You also understand the differences between traditional and modern medical treatments. Perhaps, you may combine both of them when you heal people. Please use it wisely, Master.] Those words were like a superpower he used to see in an old film on television. Yet, the fact he just realized was not a mere fantasy. It was a real skill he got from the system. At that point, the system seemed to re

  • Another prize and point

Feeling like a trooper without any knowledge background about a war he would attend, Maverick agreed to take the document. Besides that, several questions were flying through my mind about Sophia's request. Yet, he was not brave enough to ask about the reasons. When he had put the document inside his backpack, Franco returned and sat next to Sophia on the sofa. The enthusiasm in his eyes was chattered into confusion when he noticed there was no presence of his document in Sophia's hands. Even his wife put the pen on the coffee table as if she did not plan to sign any document; she just read it. "Have you signed the document, dear?" Franco impulsively inquired. He was worried that there was an obstacle that ruined his plan. Sophia glanced at him worriedly. There was a sense of guilt in her beautiful, sapphire-blue orbs. Yet, she just put on an act, pretending that she had been careless while signing the document. "Eum, I had signed it, but I accidentally ripped a part of the

  • Helping Sophia Hampton

In his patience, Maverick was waiting in the elevator. While standing in the electric cubicle, he sometimes checked some notifications on one of his social media accounts. He scrolled down the timeline, passing through several photos posted by his followers. "DING!" A loud ring nudged his ears as the doors opened, allowing him to step out. With his little confidence, Maverick got out of the cubicle. He carefully identified his surroundings as he attempted to find the middle hall. The moment he stepped on the floor and passed the rows of employee tables, a few workers darted their gazes to him. Some of them also threw their opinions under whispers. They were always like that whenever university students visited the company. Although they seemed to be noisy, it did not distract Maverick's attention. His focus was solely on completing the interview to finish the project assigned by the lecturer. Having reached the door of the director's room, he carefully knocked since he tried

  • A visit to Hampton Corporation

For the next two days, Maverick decided to work on the project assigned by Mrs. Clarkson. It might be too early to start doing the task, as the deadline was about two weeks away. Yet, he preferred to start doing it as an early bird. The moment the afternoon class was done, Maverick walked past the other students who were heading to different areas. Once he reached the gate, he booked an online taxi through his phone. The app then led to the finding of a certain driver in his campus area. As he had to wait for the taxi to come, he stood near the gate. In the waiting time, his orbs witnessed a few scenes around. Firstly, he caught a group of girls walking side by side, carrying luxurious, branded bags. Among those girls, there is a Ella Coleman, the most beautiful girl in Sunny Drive University. Her dark brown long wavy hair swayed, exposing her tiny sweet face. Her almond-brown eyes, exuding cheerfulness and positive vibes, were aimed at her friends as she smiled and responded

  • Asher boastful story

The new day came. It welcomed the citizens with slightly cold weather, combined with sunlight peeking through several thin clouds in the sky. Having finished with bathing and dressing up, Maverick got down to the kitchen. By the time he stepped closer to the dining table, Asher, Marshall, and Louisa were there. They didn't greet him. Even, they pretend as if he weren't there. Looking at such a situation, Maverick was cool as a cucumber. He might feel irritated inside, but he got used to it. He also acknowledged they disliked his existence in there. That was why he planned to save more bucks, so that he could reside in a new place. Yet, while he was ready to take a loaf of bread, Louisa glanced at him indifferently. She then snapped, "Who asks you to have breakfast with us?? Have you forgotten to do the washing-up?!" Maverick rolled his eyes. The frustration glinted in his orbs. In contrast, he attempted to negotiate politely, "Can't it be done after I grab a bite? I'll do it

  • Slapping with a proof

The words uttered by Maverick made Hailey look down at him more. The blonde girl darted a cold glare at him. Her pink lips twitched slightly, indicating that she was displeased with his confident reaction. Then, she sneered, "Are you trying to act like a rich billionaire?? Uh, come on, this is a reality, not a mini series that changes you in a night, Parker." "Alright. If you insist, I'll prove your accusation as a defaming act." Maverick strengthened his confidence. He seemed not to be scared to provide the legit proof to pay for his shopping list. Then, the cashier staff glanced at him as she scanned each item submitted. Once the scanning was done, the staff inquired, "How will you pay, sir? By cash, banking app, or card?" Calmly standing behind the counter, Maverick got his phone and scrolled down to open his banking app. "I'd like to pay through the banking app," He replied confidently. He knew the exact amount he had, especially since he had done the first mission, and he
