Survive!
Clank! The sound of a beginner Knight's shield met a mana condensed arrow. But the raw power from the shot was enough to Parry and stop the hit completely. Back in noble barristan's arena, the crowd erupted in satisfaction as they were entertained with the pure massacre of the lower hand quest. "That's another brutal parry from mandarin!" The commentator yelled with glee as he watched Mandarin obstruct the strike at the last moment saving a total stranger. She continued with charisma, lifting the amusement of the crowd. One mage stood in the top balcony of the arena, channeling Mana from his palm and creating a wide divided screen view of each of the lower hand quest battles for the crowd to see. The screen floated in the middle of the arena, flicking every five minutes as it wasn't meant to be handled by one mage alone. Noble barristan sat at the royalty section of the arena, his gaze cold, absolutely devoid of any emotion of the sort. Many nobles had gathered here today, in
Vine control
Lex hastened his steps, each thud taking him as far as he could go. They were no longer just faint mana signatures anymore. The beasts had emerged from the bushes and were gaining on him at a frightening speed. But Lex ignored the fact that he could die at any moment and kept his focus on one thing. The quest. He still had to find the magic stones, and from the fact that the mages who created the portals had hurriedly sent him into a dungeon without preparation, it likely meant that the stones were not hidden but were placed in open sight. All he had to do was keep his eyes open and survive. Lex felt a mana-imbued strike coming from the left at full speed. He slipped, tripping on the snow in a very disgraceful manner, summoning his spell while in motion and materializing a vine ball that could shield whatever strike it was. The vines immediately enveloped him, but the force behind the strike was simply too strong and too sharp. It pierced through the ball like a blade. Le
The Ocean
The grip from the skeleton bird was tight. His eyes locked on the space in the ground were land had appeared. This was his chance and he wasn't going to miss it. Vines lunged upwards, twisting together like veins. Curling in the patterns in which lex had directed each of them. On getting close to his location, a loud screeched echoed from the skeleton bird. it was attacked by another bird of it's kind. Lex ignored that fact and simply focused on the vines he controlled. As the bird pulled him farther into the air. The harder it was to control the vines upwards. Soon enough he lost the control of the vines because it was simply to far away. The skeleton bird was not taking any chance on yeilding to the other bird that also wanted him as food. Lex reached for the dagger that was tucked at his side, stretching his arms with all of his strength. He pressed on. His fingers curling around it. And then with two fingers he gripped the handle. Lex tossed it up catching it and holding it fir
The Blue Fish
Lex sank deep into the ocean. The fall had been long, and he couldn't stop the momentum. He hadn’t held any breath earlier, and he was sure this wasn't going to end well. Blood spilled from the wounds on his back, and the poison in his legs had begun to spread. Lex knew that even if he somehow found a way to survive the first part of the quest, there was no way he could survive outside not while he was a useless slave. So Lex accepted his fate and embraced the cold of the dark ocean. His eyes closed as he recalled memories from his past life, how he had been absolutely average. He hadn’t expected anything from life, and life hadn’t given him anything without a bargain. So, was he going to go now?He was okay with it.{Ding!}The sound rattled in Lex's ears. With his eyes closed, he raised a brow, curious about what the system wanted from him."Hey system? Can't you see I’m trying to die here? Stop with the dinging."'I have accepted my fate. Even if I somehow make it out of here, the
How is this possible?!
The once silent ocean shook. Tidal waves crashed into each other, and from beneath the raging waters, a figure shot upward, crashing onto the molten shore.Lex gagged, pulling a fish from his mouth and tossing it back into the water. He coughed as water escaped from his mouth and ears, then collapsed weakly onto the ground. The memory of the blue fish still scarred in his mind.He had never written anything like that in his novel, so why was it there? Lex was curious, but there was something more important to focus on right now.He had somehow survived! The aura of the blue fish had been enough to push him to the surface, meaning he still had a chance to escape this hellish dungeon. His smile slowly faded as realization set in. Even if he survived, the poison from the venomous chameleon that had struck him earlier had seeped deeply into his bloodstream. Any forceful movement would probably lead to his death. He glanced around the shore. It wasn’t sandy, but rocky, with cracks runni
The Elemental Dragon
The crowd roared once again in pure excitement and confusion. Lex had lunged forward with a speed that wouldn’t seem normal for any mere unawakened. He had finally escaped from the claws of the ravenous magic beasts and was now rushing towards the edge of a cliff. The crowd, who simply hadn’t cared whether he lived or died, were now starting to hope he might survive. It was only natural to let the underdog win and probably forget afterwards. However, the point of view of the nobles at the royal section of the arena was entirely different, as tension had slowly begun stirring amongst them.In Noble Trask’s perspective, this could probably mean the selection team had made a mistake, which was something that hadn’t happened for the past three decades. It also meant that this Lex Sterling was actually a mage and had probably concealed his aura so deeply that even their detection system couldn’t spot the flaw. The other possibility was that Noble Barristan was planning to add a mage to hi
The Elemental Dragon (2)
Lex’s feet were rooted in the molten ground. He was totally unaware of the searing heat scorching the skin beneath his legs. “So this is the dungeon boss.” Lex muttered to himself as the unfortunate realization settled in. Don’t panic. Lex encouraged himself as his eyes darted to where the red magic stone floated. The key to his escape from the dungeon. It was right there, barely ten feet away. Although the lava rising from the volcanic area was closing in on it, there was still a slight chance for Lex to reach it if he played his cards right. I can do this. Lex totally ignored the ancient gaze of the Elemental Dragon currently standing right before him. There was no time for calculations just action. And then Lex made the decision within himself to finally make a move, but before he could. {Notification} {You have been stunned for fifteen seconds.} {Passive skill of the Elemental Dragon.} {Dragon fear} The notification hit Lex like a wave of hot steam, like a
Just who are you?
Lex touched the red magic stone at the last possible second. Having touched the magic stone, Lex let it all go. He had survived, and that was what was important. At least those mages who sent him to the higher rank dungeon earlier would not see him as so weak anymore. Although his body was numb, Lex could not miss the feeling that he had escaped the hell hole of the volcanic dungeon and somehow survived from its boss. The only part of his body that was well and alive was his consciousness, and Lex was certain that anytime soon he would also lose it. Unexpectedly, a strange warm sensation hit him like a slow crashing wave, and with that wave came a painful sensation. Lex felt like he was being thrown into a river of eternal healing. However, in contrast to its name, the river wrecked his body, switching broken bones, wiping out poison, and repairing his burnt skin with frightening speed. Lex, who could barely hold on to his thoughts, slowly began feeling his pulse. He felt the blo
He's Alive?
(Second stage of the lower hand quest.)Naomi stood in place, eyes wide and utterly in shock as she watched Lex slowly carve through the magic beasts, their numbers increasing continuously. While Lex paid her no attention, submitting all of his focus to the subject at hand.Using the vines to hold off the level seven magic beasts was no easy task for Lex, as even though the magic beasts seemed perfectly held in place and unmoving, in reality they struggled against the vines, trying to pull themselves out. Their continuous struggling had begun to take a toll on Lex's mana.Having killed another two dozen of the magic beasts, the others in the area had marked the position where Lex stood as a danger zone. Only a few more began to make an approach, while some stood at a distance and others immediately retreated to other parts of the dungeon.Lex, noticing the slight shift in the magic beasts' actions, used that slight opportunity to momentarily turn to Naomi, who stood behind him. He rel
Last Stage One
Lex took a few steps forward, his gaze lingering on the atmosphere of the arena, his sight apprehensive. He momentarily glanced at the three mages who sat amidst the crowd in the arena, the ones who sent him to the dangerous dungeons. He had spotted them in the crowd through sheer luck. He studied their overalls. They were slightly pale at the edges. The aura around them was weak, but even from that distance, being the author of the novel, Lex was well aware of the situation. Although their aura presented them as elemental mages, they were far stronger, more powerful. They were sages, which was one of the toughest ranks to surpass in the realm of mages. Although they didn’t even scratch the realm of the immortal level mages, which no mage in Aetheria had ever surpassed. However, what bothered Lex the most was that he expected them to be below the realm of elemental mages, showing that their outfit’s color would be a pale green on the left side and blue on the right. Instead, they
