Objection, Your Honour.
Chapter 1: Objection, Your Honour The air inside the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada was thick with tension. The trial had already made headlines across Las Vegas... a notorious hotels and nightclub owner accused of sexual assault, intimidation, and violence. At the prosecution’s table, Attorney Zero Lindsey rose. He adjusted his tie, and faced the jury."My client...," he said, gesturing toward a weary woman in her fifties, "...is here on behalf of her daughter, Cara Floyd. Cara worked at the defendant’s club, Vibe Lounge. Today, she lies in a hospital bed after being molested and beaten... by her boss, Marcus Fisher, and the men he entertained".All eyes shifted to Marcus Fisher, who sat calmly at the defense table in an immaculate navy suit. His expression was unreadable. He was flanked by his defense team. His lead attorney, Veronica Haynes, made a note on her pad but otherwise showed no reaction.Zero lifted a hand toward the jurors. "You will hear testimony from women
Don't You Know The Law?
Chapter 2: Don’t You Know The Law?Zero stormed out of the courtroom while dialing his wife's number. He didn't even wait to speak with his client. Reporters immediately rushed at him with their cameras and microphones."Mr. Zero! Who was the woman in the pictures that you presented to the court?" one of them asked.Fortunately, his assistant Gina jumped to his rescue along with some security men, and Zero was able to make it to his car.His assistant got in beside him. "Damn reporters," she muttered. The call ended without his wife picking up. Zero dialed again. The phone rang, but she still didn't answer. Zero dropped his phone, turned on the car, and drove out of the courthouse. His assistant looked at him, debating within herself. After some time, she finally decided to speak."I probably shouldn't be asking now, but that woman in those photos was your wife, Sasha... wasn't it?""Yes.""F*ck," she cursed. "How did Marcus get those pictures? You don't think they might be photoshopp
Don't Let Me Die Here.
Chapter 3: Don't Let Me Die Here Zero sat in the backseat of his car, as Gina drove him to the hospital. She looked at him through the middle rearview mirror. "What were you thinking? No matter how angry you are... you should have known better than to recklessly assault Marcus, especially in his own building." Zero didn't reply. Gina continued. "If Marcus guards hadn't jumped you, he could have easily made a case against you for your actions. You would have been in serious trouble, and might have even lost your license." "Gina, I don't want your criticism right now, okay?" Zero said. "No, you need to hear it... because you seem to have lost all rationality." "Gina..." "No, you listen to me..." "Gina, WATCH OUT!!" Zero yelled. Zero's shout forced Gina to focus on the road, where an incoming tanker had driven out of lane and was now coming towards them. Gina narrowly managed to swerve the car out of the tanker's part, and crashed into a pole. But the bus directl
I Am The Karma System.
CHAPTER 4: I Am The Karma System Zero’s eyes shot open to a ceiling painted in dull white. For a moment, nothing made sense... until the sterile stink of drugs filled his lungs." 'Am I in a hospital.' He raised his head up to look around, only to confirm that his guess was spot on.He tried to sit up. But pain answered immediately, coursing through his ribs, his back, even his skull. He groaned and sank back into the pillow. The steady beep of a heart monitor kept rhythm with his pulse. His arm was strapped with an IV drip. His lips were dry, cracked, his throat raw as if he had swallowed smoke."What the hell..." Zero racked his brain to remember how he ended up in that state. And it didn't take long for the memories to slowly start coming back. First came the image of the bus, the tanker, the boy in his arms, and then... the explosion. Zero let out a deep sigh. 'I could have died there. What the hell was I thinking?' He chastised himself. As he was reminiscing about his heroic a
Petty Thief
Chapter 5: Petty ThiefThe room was silent except for the steady beep of the heart monitor. Zero’s eyes stayed locked on the purple screen floating above his bed.[THE NURSE YOU SPOKE TO EARLIER... WAS NOT REAL]'Are you being serious right now?'. He asked in his mind, finding the system words hard to believe.[YES I AM]His chest tightened, and he half expected nurse Ellie to walk back in just to prove the system wrong. The door opened again... but this time it wasn’t her.A middle-aged doctor stepped in, his white coat was wrinkled, and his stethoscope swung about as he walked. Two nurses (male and female) followed right behind him, chatting idly about another patient down the hall. "Old man Harold just complained to me that someone stole his stuff again. Last time it was his watch, but this time he said that it's the pink wallet his granddaughter gave him some years ago". The female nurse said."And just like before, I will say that the wallet wasn't stolen, just misplaced. Old ma
Karma Isn't Fair.
CHAPTER 6: Karma Isn't Fair Ten days later. The door to Zero's ward creaked open, and Dr. Kemp walked in, a big folder containing some papers tucked under one of his arms. "Here are your discharge papers, Mr. Lindsey." He placed the folder on the tray table, adjusting his glasses. "I have prescribed some mild painkillers. You can pick them up at the pharmacy on your way out. Take them only if you need them, avoid lifting anything heavy, and... absolutely no drinking for at least three weeks." Zero nodded, quietly playing along. He didn’t need the medication anymore... not with the way his body have already fully recovered, unnaturally fast. Still, he let the doctor think otherwise. "You will also need a follow up with a local physician in about a week, just to be safe." Kemp continued. He hesitated, studying Zero’s face. "And... try not to do anymore dangerous heroic deeds for the meantime, Mr. Lindsey. Two hospital stays in a month isn’t a record I would want for anyone."
Pull Out The Ledger.
Chapter 7: Pull Out The Ledger"So how was I supposed to know the woman was a crook?"[BY CONSULTING THE SYSTEM LEDGER]Zero blinked. He wanted to argue, to defend himself... but his thoughts were messed up. And his emotions was somewhere between anger and disbelief.[FOR WRONGLY ATTACKING A MAN: YOUR PENALTY IS 200 NEGATIVE KARMA AND INSTANT KARMA.]"Two hundred negatives and instant karma? What the hell are those supposed to mean? Explain yourself.""Yo tough guy..." A deep voice said from behind. Zero turned back to see a huge, mean-looking black man, built like the WWE wrestler 'Mark Henry', staring straight at him. Beside him stood two other mean-looking men, though they were not huge like him. One was bald, and the other had tattoos on his left cheek."Are you the one that knocked down Big Jo?" 'Mark Henry' asked."What... Big Jo? I don’t know who that..."Then Zero’s eyes darted to the thug sprawled unconscious on the concrete. The guy’s lip was bleeding, his jaw already swell
That's Fraud, My Friend.
Chapter 8: That's Fraud, My Friend.Traffic was slow, so it took some considerable time before the taxi finally drove into the hotels compound.Seeing the high-end building, and the high class people moving in and out of the main hotel building... the driver was in awe. "Now this is what I call luxury. It's not something that people like us can afford". "Speak for yourself". Zero said, stepping out of the vehicle."Are you here to see some...""How much was the ride?" Zero cut in, already reaching for his wallet in his back pocket. (Good thing that he kept both his phone and wallet on him, instead of in his stolen bag)."The price is five hundred dollars." The driver said with a sly smile.Zero froze. Then slowly turned his head. "Five hundred what?""Five hundred dollars" the driver repeated."For what?"."C'mon, I had to wait a long time at the motel for you to go grab what it is that you wanted. Then I had to spend more time waiting as those thugs tried to rearrange your bones. No
