BACK AT THE SAFE HOUSE
Kyle cut the phone before Zack could reply to him. He knew what his reply was going to be. He knew exactly what he was going to say. But Kyle was not ready to take another risk. "Do you think they are going to put the blame on me?" Kyle let out a shaky breath. "If Mr. Hendrick managed to survive this night, then you are safe, young master. At least, for now," Clark replied. He suddenly pulled over in front of a black gate and stopped. "We are here. Stay in the car." Clark got down slowly, his hands slightly on the gun he had behind his back. His eyes scanned the silent surroundings before he walked back to the car. "You can get down now, Mr. Kyle," he said, standing firm. The door was opened while Kyle got down. "My grandfather owns this place?" Kyle asked"Not him. I, Arthur, never left his fortress." Clark replied, heading towards the main gate. "Then who does?" "Your father. This was his hideout. A place he comes when all odds are against him." Kyle's footsteps faded the
THE SHOOT OUT
For Kyle, this was never the life he had wanted. He had always dreamt about a simple life where he had peaceful work and also a beautiful woman as a wife. Probably a kid or two. But now, it seems he had lived in a world of fantasy where everything he dreamt about was nothing but a dream. As he raced through the thick darkness with his father's gun clenched in his hands, he felt scared. Unsure of where he was headed, too. The loud gunshot of a bullet roaring behind him could be heard, along with Clark's last command. "Run!" There was a head start for Kyle, but he couldn't help but wonder how long it was going to take the man to put Clark down. Kyle remembered Alice's words. He remembered while she didn't want him to go. While she had told him going back home was nothing but danger. As Kyle hid out of sight, he couldn't help but wonder why his father was killed, as well as his mother. Whatever they were protecting, was it truly worth it? Kyle gripped the necklace his mother gav
HOPE
"Shoot him!" "You heard the man when he asked us to bring him back alive!" the other man yelled into the night."Fuck you, Sky! Why would you fight a kid and get your ass kicked?" "And you didn't? You fucking fool!" Kyle twitched a bit, and the man fired a round into the air. "Hey kid, you try and move another muscle right there, and I am going to shoot you. Do you hear me?!" Sweat rolled down Kyle's cheek, but then he looked ahead and saw a shadow in the dark. Clark. Kyle knew he had to stall them until he had a perfect shot. "Why don't you work for me? The empire is mine and whatever comes with it. I can give you what you want or maybe more." "Shut up and stop talking!" Sky barked, his hand tightening on the gun. "Listen to me…" Kyle said again. "Whatever Frank promised to give you, I am going to give you more. All you need to do is go back and kill him." The two men stared at each other and burst into loud laughter. "Did you hear that? Go back and kill fucking Frank. Do
RESCUED
The man walked out of the shadow, and Kyle let out a sigh of peace. "Drop the gun!" A man dressed in an FBI uniform said, walking closer. He looked at Kyle and then back towards Clark. "What the fuck is going on here?" he asked, his gaze switching between the three of us. "They attacked me, officer. They came out of nowhere! Please, help me." Sky said in tears.Kyle smirked, blood trailing down his lips. "He came here to have me killed, officer. You have to believe us." The FBI agent walked past Clark and immediately brought out handcuffs. "You are under arrest," he said, grabbing Sky by the hand. "You have the right to remain silent now, or anything you say shall be used against you. Do you hear me?" Kyle and Clark watched as the man forcefully pinned Sky to the ground. They both couldn't help but wonder who had called the police. In less than a minute, the loud wail of the police siren could be heard as they flooded the villa that was now burning in flames. Clark looked at
SAFED
The phone rang once.Twice.Three times.Kyle’s grip tightened around the phone, his thumb hovering over the screen like he was willing Zack to pick up through sheer force. The silence in the car felt heavier than the chaos they had just escaped. Even Clark, who usually had something to say, remained quiet—his eyes scanning the quiet, well-lit street like he expected danger to crawl out of the shadows at any second.Then—Click.“Kyle?” Zack’s voice came through, low and cautious. “Why are you calling me at this hour?”Kyle exhaled, a breath he didn’t even realize he’d been holding. “Zack… I need your help.”There was a pause on the other end.“What happened?” Zack asked. "The last time you talked to me sounded serious. Is your grandfather alright?" Kyle glanced at Clark before speaking. “Everything happened. I don't know that, Zack." There was another silence. Then Zack sighed. “You’re outside, aren’t you?”Kyle blinked. “How did you—”“Your timing is terrible,” Zack cut in. “Stay
REALITY
"Get up, Kyle!" Clark's voice rang through the room. We need to get you home." Kyle rubbed his sleepy eyes. He looked at the gloomy figure before him and realized that it was Clark. "Good morning to you too," he said, getting out of bed. "We don't have time for pleasantries, Mr. Kyle. The family will be gathered, and I think you need to be there." Clark said again. Zack slowly turned on the bed; his leg moved slightly, trying to find his bedmate. He yawned lazily; I turned to see that Kyle was up. " What's going on?" Zack asked " Thank you for the hospitality, Mr Zack but we need to get going now." Zack frowned. " Get going? Where exactly?" Clark looked at the school teenagers that seem to be acting like adults. "You don't get it, do you?" he stared at Kyle. Both of them sit up, looking at Clark. "I don't know, but I think Hendrick might be dead too. He has not called in to check on you, and it only means one thing." "Don't..." Kyle said softly, "We can't just decide that
A Fight To Claim It All
The door didn’t just close. It echoed, leaving a hollow, final sound that seemed to anger Zack. For a moment, no one moved.Zack stood frozen, his hand still half-raised as if he could reach out and pull Kyle back… rewind everything… say something—anything—that would make him stay. But the silence answered him.Clark exhaled slowly, adjusting his cuffs like the weight of the moment didn’t touch him, though his eyes betrayed a flicker of unease."He's made his choice,” Clark said quietly. "You need to respect that." Zack's head snapped toward him."Choice?" he barked, a bitter laugh escaping him. “You call that a choice? You pushed him into it!”Clark didn’t flinch. “I showed him reality. Do you honestly think he will be safe here with you and your family? Do you think you can protect him? Wake up, Zack, and don't try to meddle in things that you know nothing about. This is Kyle's reality." "Reality?" Zack stepped forward, anger radiating off him. “No—what you showed him is a death
A CHOICE
"You can turn back now, Mr. Kyle," Clark said immediately. "Do you realize he is the only friend I have got?" he barked. "And he is not going to be the last, Mr. Kyle. If you fail to be at the hearing, then it is over. The life you think you knew, the power, and the post your parents died fighting for will have meant nothing." The car went silent. Clark rubbed his face gently. "I know you are trying so hard to adjust to everything going on right now, and it might be difficult, but time is not a luxury you have anymore. I don't know what to say to make you trust me, but you need to follow my instructions. It might be the only thing that is going to save your life." Kyle stared back at the chaos unfolding behind them. "Can you at least make sure he is okay?" Clark nodded. "I can do that." He immediately took out his phone and put a call through to some unknown number. "I want him taken care of. Is that clear?" Clark ordered. "Good." Clark stared at Kyle. "Help is on the way. Ca
DON'T LOOK BACK! GAME ON
"Enough!" Victor barked. The room went dead silent at his loud voice. Each member of the family kept their mouth shut. He stared at Clark and then finally at the rest of them. "If you don't like it, then you are welcome to check out the document that I am having with me." Frank smiled. "The point is taken, Barrister Victor. I think all we have to do now is sign where necessary, right?" Kyle clenched his hands, remembering what Arthur said to him. His words sounded back in his head. His gaze locked on Frank, and for a brief moment, he didn't want to believe Frank had nothing to do with the altering of the will."Clark, can you check the authentication of this will?" Kyle said immediately. "There is no need for that," Victor replied, getting to his feet. "There is a visual display of everything Mr. Howard said before his death. The room erupted into chaos again."So, who is going to lead Howard's family? Who is going to sit on the throne? An elderly man stood up. His eye scanne
BACK TO SQUARE ONE
Kyle hit the wall hard the moment he was out of the room. His breath felt hollow, and it seemed everything was going back to the way it was. The boy with no name and no title. He knew Adrian was going to gloat at school. His mind went back to Justin's numerous calls. Kyle grabbed his phone, and another calm came in immediately."You said you were ready! That was what you told me, Kyle. Are you going back on your words?" Justin shouted over the call.Kyle inhales sharply. His eyebrows furrowed. "I know what I said, Justin." He walked forward a bit before he paused. "Things have not been easy lately. My grandfather is dead and my brother..." He passed again. "Are you alright?" Justin asked "I am not. Can I come over?" "Yes. Sure. We have a lot to talk about." The call ended afterwards. Kyle was about to walk out when he heard his name. He turned to see Kelly standing behind him. "What do you want?" Kyle asked"Can we talk?" Kelly said, her feet striding towards Kyle. "Talk?"
