11 - Earn Your Freedom
As Warren walked on the streets, nobody talked with him because the atmosphere had been heavy since the Potter Street was taken away.Warren reached home, seemingly in a calm and composed manner. After entering the house, he saw his wife standing in front of a door.“Is it really him?” Warren asked in a neutral tone. She nodded twice and broke into an emotional smile. “He didn’t answer my questions and went straight into this room and locked the door. He’s not opening it even though I've been asking him for the past ten minutes.”“He just returned, so give him some time to rest,” Warren said, slightly sighing in relief.“Rest?” she raised her voice. “He’s been gone for years, Warren! And he just comes back one day and talks and acts like nothing happened. He said he’s been roaming around the seven stellar mountain range these past three years. That’s the best excuse he could think of.”Warren didn’t believe it, either, as even the cultivators who manifested their aura wouldn’t want to
12 - Trial In The Hall
Later that evening.Dressed in his second elder brother’s clothes, Gunnar stepped out of the room. He looked ravishingly handsome.Seeing him now, Minerva smiled sharply. “If any girls give you flowers or letters, then you better bring them straight to me.”“Huh? W-Why?”“Because I’ll deal with them,” Minerva adjusted his shirt collar a bit. “You’re my youngest son. I can’t let any girl fool you! If anybody dares mess with you, I’ll gouge their eyes out myself.”“You are thinking too much, Mother,” Gunnar was saying, and she began to push him out. “What are you doing?”“Go to the meeting hall. They all must be waiting for you,” Minerva said. “I only have one piece of advice. Don’t talk back to them.”Gunnar walked down the street, and people recognized him more now. Some adult men saw him and said he looked so similar to his dad, but that didn’t make Gunnar smile or anything. He kept his cool around men, but when he saw that even some adult women were smiling at him, he felt his heart
13 - Not The Same Anymore
After leaving the meeting hall, Gunnar didn’t go home. Instead, he kept roaming through the clan’s territory to see how the clan had changed. The Fist Clan occupied an area of nearly ten square miles. It was situated right next to a small mountain, the Blind Mountain, behind which there was the great seven stellar mountain range with an area of millions of square miles. From the stories he heard, in the glory days of the Fist Clan, their clan used to rule these seven mountains, with their base at the central mountain, also known to be the tallest mountain in the world, with its peak penetrating the clouds. But nobody in the current times believed this to be true. They would say it was all a story fabricated by the Fist Clan.“Why don’t the elders have any desire to shift the clan back to the seven stellar mountain range?” Gunnar shook his head. “It is a place full of resources. If the clan stays there, everyone will get to eat good food and explore and get a lot more powerful. We can
14 - Showing Off?
Gunnar reached the northern end of the village where there was a cave.It was the entrance to the clan’s library. It was a pretty big library, where the clan’s history and arts’ books were stored. There were three mainly known floors inside the library, which were carved out of the mountain inside the cave.Gunnar was allowed only to enter the ground floor, as the first floor and second floors were accessible only to cultivators, the ones who could manifest aura. And the third floor was accessible only to those who accomplished great feats in the clan. There were a few girls on the ground floor now. When Gunnar entered, he was being looked at by almost all of them.“Hey, is he who I think he is?”“No way. Did the third young master really return then?”“He appears much taller than I remember.”“But I bet his fist is just as weak.”“Hahaha.”A girl in green pig-tails saw him and was quite surprised. She approached him and said, “Hi…”Gunnar stopped checking out the books on the shelves
15 - A Step Across The Line
Patriarch Warren came home at around seven at night. Minerva received him with warmth. It’s been a while since he had seen that smile on her face.“Is he inside?” Warren asked after drinking water from a copper jug.“No, he left in the evening and didn’t return,” she said, a hint of worry in her tone. “You should go and look for him.”“Why? He’s not a kid anymore,” Warren replied casually.“Yeah, but I think he ran away from us because he was bullied by others,” Minerva said, sounding a bit guilty. “We didn’t support him either, thinking it’ll strengthen his fists. But it worked in the opposite way. If he gets bullied again and runs away, then I don’t think I’ll be able to forgive myself.”“You’re underestimating Gunnar too much,” Warren washed his hands and feet before sitting at the dining table. “He’s smarter and also mentally tougher than he looks. If not for his poor physique, which didn’t let him get anywhere he wanted to be, he would have become a big hope for the clan just lik
16 - Winning It Back
Gunnar stepped over the line. The drunken thieves were hoping just for this. They wanted someone to cross the line, so that it would give them justification to brawl and then break some bones. The guy with the bushy beard grinned with the warmth of a wolf circling wounded prey. “Why did you cross the line, kid?”“Maybe he has milk in his chest, too,” one of the drunken guys blurted, making everyone spill their drinks and laugh their asses off.“That was a real good joke,” the guy with the bushy beard stood, his eyes nearly wet from laughter. He was 6 foot 2 inches and was taller than Gunnar. He stared down at Gunnar, arrogance dripping from his eyes like cold poison. “Kid, you’ve done something that will change your life forever.”He turned back but then raised the bottle, swiveled around and viciously swung it down at Gunnar’s head without warning. However, his hand froze midway. He felt some pain in his chest and slowly looked down with effort.Gunnar’s hand was inside his chest now
17 - Marriage Plans
Both the Fist clan and the Devil Knife clan were shocked by what happened that night. The Potter Street was reclaimed by the Fist clan within just a day.It was a very important street for the clan because lots of tools were present on that street, and also there were four wells on that single street.Reclaiming the wells also meant a lot for the Fist clan. The First Elder took it upon himself to stay at the Potter Street from now on. He was known for his ruthlessness toward the enemies.Currently, he was sharing drinks with the ten guards. “Haha, you guys did a wonderful job. I’m proud of all of you.”“We just saw an opportunity, and we took it,” the captain of the guards, Jack, replied, “Elder Enron.”“They only left seven drunkards here,” the First Elder Enron laughed. “They have underestimated us way too much. Now that I’m here, you don’t have to worry. If anyone dares to show up, I’ll break their spirit and pack them back home.”The ten guards were more than happy as they were t
18 - Dahlia
Gunnar was currently teaching the children in the school.“People who pursue the martial path are called cultivators.“They are divided into nine realms: Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert, Master and more.“When you are able to release visible aura out of your body, you’re called a Novice cultivator.“From then on, you learn the techniques of different realms and improve your skill and strength and master your aura.”“What level are you at, Brother Gunnar?” one of the kids asked.“He doesn’t have the aura, so he’s not a cultivator yet,” another kid quickly said.“Ahem,” Gunnar cleared his throat. “If you become novice cultivators, then you are qualified to attempt the entrance exams of most sects. The sects are also divided into multiple grades, but we’ll talk about that some other time. For today, we’ll be concentrating on the clans.“All the clans were divided into five grades, from the first to the fifth grade. The grading depends primarily on the ruler of the clan, that is the pat
19 - No Plans
Randy and Edward launched what they believed was a surprise attack. However, Dahlia turned half way and crafted one back-kick after another, which sent them flying more than thirty feet down the street. This time, the brothers coughed blood and were not even able to stand back up.“Be grateful that I didn’t put aura into my kicks, or your stomachs would have ruptured,” Dahlia snorted. “And you’d only put our clan’s physician through an unnecessary burden.”“Forget about them,” Gunnar told Dahlia’s hand and took her with him. “Why do you look so lean? Were you eating well?”“I’m in the growing period,” Dahlia said. “I’m five foot five inches now. I grew five inches in the past few months, so of course I’d look like this. But what about you? You look lean, too, though your arms do look a bit toned. And you still didn’t tell me what you were doing these three years. Did you work as a slave somewhere?”“Of course not.”“Then why didn’t you come back for three years?” she hissed. “Did you
20 - Cold Hard Truth
Later that night.Minerva was talking with Warren in bed while pressing his thighs as his wounds still hurt him at times. “He says he doesn’t want to join any sect right now.”“Did he explain why?” Warren asked, showing only a little curiosity.“He says that he wishes to learn the skills in the clan’s library first,” Minerva sighed. “I know that there are some really good techniques in our clan’s library, but they’re almost all non-weapon oriented techniques and are hard to learn. They take a lot of time and so require a lot of patience. I’m afraid that he’ll get lost somewhere in the middle and lose all of his confidence.”“Mm, he wants to learn the techniques of the clan first, which is a good thing,” Warren said. “If he’s got potential, Elder Shawn will help him. Don’t you think it’s better to learn from the Third Elder than some random professor of some sect?”“Yeah, but what about making friends?” Minerva said. “Isn’t joining the sect also about making bigger connections and grow
