Marcus held Vivian’s gaze for a few seconds before finally nodding slowly. “I’m in.” Vivian folded her arms tightly beneath her chest. “Good. Then all of you need to stop acting like frightened children.” Her voice trembled slightly despite her attempt to sound calm. “Whatever that thing is downstairs, it’s still walking around in my house. We either deal with it or it deals with us first.” Leo swallowed hard. “You’re talking like he’s some kind of monster.” Marcus laughed bitterly. “What else do you call a man that survives a bullet through the chest?” Nobody answered him. " We need to go downstairs there andet Arthur know he cannot stay in this house." Vivan said " And what exactly do we tell him? How do we explain that he was shot in the heart and he didn't die?" The room went into silence again. Vivan looked at the three of them then her gaze landed on Seraphina. " Are you going to follow my lead?" she asked Seraphina nodded. " What do you want me to

The Locharts' mansion was quiet. It felt more like a graveyard rather than a home. Arthur's face was pale while Vivan couldn't stop pacing back and forth. "You are mad! You have finally lost it!" Arthur shouted at Marcus. "Do you know what you have done?" he barked.Marcus said nothing but rushed towards the magazine on the floor. He grabbed it and stared at him for a while. "It can't be!" he said with his eyebrows arched. "What?" Leo asked Marcus rushed towards Leo and shoved the magazine in his face. "Here, look." Leo slightly felt confused. "This...this is…" Their eyes both darted towards Kael's body lying on the cold floor. "He was there. He was shot. How is this even possible?" Arthur felt his heart collapse all of a sudden. He slowly fell down on the tiles. Vivan rushed towards him, "Father! You can't die now! We need you…" Arthur's breath slowed down as his heart beat fast against his rib cage. "Call the ambulance. Call 911!" Leo said immediately. Seraphina grabbed

Vivan stared at Leo as though she no longer recognized the son standing in front of her.For a moment, nobody spoke. The ticking clock on the wall sounded louder than before, each second crawling through the room like a warning. Then, they all heard a faint sound.A cough.Seraphina froze instantly.Marcus slowly lowered the glass in his hand.Leo turned sharply toward Arthur’s body lying on the floor.Another cough escaped him.Arthur’s chest jerked violently before his eyes suddenly flew open.“Father!” Vivan screamed.Seraphina stumbled backward in terror while Marcus nearly dropped the bottle again.Arthur gasped for air like a drowning man dragged from the sea. His wrinkled fingers clawed against the tiles as he struggled to breathe.“Help him!” Vivan cried.Leo and Marcus rushed forward immediately. Arthur’s eyes looked bloodshot and terrified.“No…” he whispered weakly. His gaze darted past all of them. Straight toward Kael’s corpse.Marcus felt his stomach twist. Kael had not

The room became so silent that even the sound of Marcus gripping the mop tighter echoed faintly across the marble floor.Dennis stood calmly in the center of the mansion while every member of the Lochart family stared at him like prey cornered by a hunter.Arthur’s breathing became uneven again.Vivan forced out a laugh.“Son-in-law?” she repeated carefully. “You must be mistaken.”Dennis tilted his head slightly. “Am I? I thought your daughter here was married? Everyone saw him at the event. Right?" His eyes moved across the room one after another before settling briefly on Seraphina. The color drained from her face instantly.Leo slowly stepped forward with a cold smile. “I think you should leave now. You’ve delivered your message already.”Dennis looked at him. For a brief second, neither man blinked. Then Dennis smiled politely. “My apologies,” he said calmly. “Perhaps I truly made a mistake.”The tension in the room eased slightly. Vivan quickly seized the opportunity.“Yes. A m

Dennis's eye scanned the room. He could sense their fears, anger, and instability in the family. "And you are sure he is dead?" he asked, his gaze fixed on Seraphina, who seems to be panicking. "You heard us the first time, didn't you?" Leo said with a sharp voice. "Are you here on behalf of Mr. Leo?" Marcus asked. Dennis smiled. "Yes. I am here for him, but I need to know there is no threat to what he wants. Mr. Joe is not really a very patient man." Marcus nodded. "Yes. We know that too, and that is why I am telling you that you have nothing to worry about," he said. The door opened slowly, and Vivan walked in, followed by Arthur right behind her. "So," Dennis looked up. "Have you decided?" Vivan smiled gratefully. "Yes. We are going to be happy to join both houses in holy matrimony." Dennis stood up. "Excellent! I am sure Mr. Verlic would be more than willing to hear the good news." Everyone smiled except for Arthur, who had a grim face. Dennis was a

"So help me carry him!" Marcus snapped in frustration, gripping the corpse roughly.Leo cursed under his breath. "Why is he so damn heavy?""Maybe because dead bodies don't walk themselves," Marcus replied, breathing heavily. Dennis remained perfectly still. His heartbeat slowed.Every instinct in his body sharpened.Kael was supposed to be alive. He was the god's hand, and men like that don't die.Dennis himself had arranged the cover-up after realizing the earlier body wasn't Kael's. He had replaced the evidence and helped keep Kael's identity for now. But still, he was worried people saw him get shot. He took a bullet in the heart and was supposed to remain dead. The council was going to come looking for him now, but first, he needed to be sure the man he had always thought was invisible was still alive. He stared again into the night only to realize that it was indeed Kael's body lying right in front of him.His jaw tightened.Something wasn't adding up.Marcus wiped sweat fro

Kael was quite through with the drive back to the villa. He said nothing but simply stared into the night sky. Everything felt peaceful except for the brewing storm in his mind. Dennis peeped through the front mirror. His gaze landing on Kael each time he took a U-turn. "Are you alright, Master Kael?" he asked. Kael said nothing but simply nodded. His mind was filled with a lot of thoughts. "Like I said earlier, I need you to find out who Alaric is, and I want you to locate Veronica," he said, meeting Dennis's gaze."Veronica? Leo's sister?" Dennis asked, his eyebrows arched slightly. "Yes. Find out what you can about her father's illness and get back to me." "Do I need to remind you that Leo is your enemy?" Dennis asked. Kael groaned. "Are you questioning me now?" he asked in an angry tone. Dennis stopped the car abruptly. "I am sorry, Master. I don't mean to, but we have a lot at stake here. Leo brought the so-called god hand into the country. I don't think he brought him b

The city of New Orleans buzzed about the marriage between Seraphina Lochart and Joe Verlic. The newspapers, the magazines, and even most TV programs carried it. It was the talk of the city. Vivan laughed with her friends in the Locharts' mansion one bright morning."I can't believe your daughter is really going to marry that man. Do you know that they are the richest in the city?" one of Vivan's friends said with a chuckle. Don't say. I even heard Joe Verlic's father is sick. I bet he is going to inherit the man's fortune if he dies." Vivan laughed, her hand slightly placed on the soft leather couch. "I bet Joe has had a crush on my daughter right from day one. He even sent his most trusted men to personally come and ask for her hand in marriage." She added. "I thought your daughter was married," Tiffany asked. The room went from being chatty to a more silent one. "Married? To whom exactly, Tiffany?" Vivan asked with her gaze fixed on her. "Kael. Isn't that his name?" Tiffany s

Inside a large furnished room were six old men. Each of them had a sigil on their staffs. "And who the fuck is God's hand?" An old man with a feather sigil on his staff said, looking at the rest of them."We are working on it, Norman. The soldier is back in New Orleans, and I bet he is here to take revenge on us." Another with a bird on his staff replied. "What are we going to do about Roland Verlic? I heard he is on stage four cancer." The room went silent. "If we don't find the god hand and have his powers taken, then there is no way of healing him." Norman said. "You mean his powers can be taken?" Another said, Norman laughed. "We created him just the same way we created that vermin." "Alaric?" Hassan, a tall man with a scar running down his cheek, stared at Norman. "Yes. Alaric is a failed experiment who believes he also has the power to bring the dead back to life. But the truth is, there is an anomaly in his powers." Norman replied. "Anomaly? What are you talking about

Kael looked at the picture that was seated on the table before him. He shut his eyes, and he could still remember their loud cries of pain. The door opened, and Dennis walked in. "Are you alright?" he said calmly. "Did you get it done?" Kael asked. "Yes, Miss Veronica would be glad to meet with you." Kael's gaze arched for a bit. His eyebrows slightly raised. "Did you tell her about me?" Dennis shook his head a little bit. "No. Do you want me to tell her?" Kael waved in the air. "No. I am going to do the talking. What about Alaric? Did you get the information I need?" "No. Alaric knows how to cover his tracks. But I think he is in cahoots with the council. Whatever they did to him gave him the power to bring back the dead." The room fell into silence. "And what about the Lockhart's family?" "They are preparing for the wedding. What do you want me to do?" Dennis asked, his hands folded right behind his back. "Do nothing, Dennis. But I want you to look into the family busines
