Veronica was seated in a corner of a nearby cafe. Her gaze darted back and forth. Each time falling on the door that seemed to jingle each time a customer walked in. She looked at her wristwatch again. Ring!Ring! Her phone rang several times, but she refused to pick up. Finally, the door opened, and Kael walked in. At first, Veronica's face went pale. She stared at him like she had seen a ghost as he walked towards her. "How?" A small breath escaped her lungs. Kael said nothing but simply took a seat right in front of her. "How is this even possible?" She asked. "How are you doing, Miss Verlic?" Kael said with a smile. Veronica was seated in a corner of a nearby cafe. Her gaze darted back and forth. Kael kept staring at Veronica without blinking. The faint smile on his face never disappeared.Outside the café, rain slowly began to pour from the dark clouds above. Tiny droplets tapped softly against the glass windows.Veronica noticed it immediately. The atmosphere around Kael somehow changed the moment the rain started falling. It was subtle but terrifying."You still haven't answered my question," Veronica said carefully.Kael leaned slightly forward."And you still haven't realized something, Veronica.""What?""You are afraid of me."Veronica opened her mouth to deny it but stopped herself.Because she was.Deeply.The man before her had once been calm, charming, and strangely gentle despite his coldness. But now?It felt like something powerful was staring at her through Kael's eyes.Kael picked up the whiskey again and swirled it slowly."You said you would give me anything."Veronica nodded slowly."Good," Kael replied softly. "Then I want information."Veronica frowned."I

Veronica could barely keep herself together as she drove back to her mansion. Meeting Kael didn't only make her doubt her father, but also wonder if Kael was going to keep to the end of his bargain. "Be my girlfriend." The deal was simple, and yet, she couldn't believe it was all Kael wanted. The gate to the sprawling mansion of the Verlics opened, displaying an opulence of wealth. Each section of the exquisite mansion was guarded by two security men. "Welcome back, Ma'am." Each of them greeted her as she drove past them. But in actual truth, Veronica's mind was empty. The only words that echoed right inside them were Kael's last words. "Ask him. Ask your father and let him tell you."That was his last word. Kael has promised to come afterwards to see her father, but Veronica could not help but wonder if Kael's words were true. "Welcome home, Miss Veronica. Your brother is waiting for you." An aged man said with his head bowed. Veronica's eyebrow arched slightly. "What do

Veronica remained still long after Joe left. The faint smell of cigar smoke lingered in the room like poison, mixing with the expensive scent of whiskey and polished wood. Her fingers tightened around the glass in her hand until her knuckles turned pale.Something was wrong.Joe never came unless it benefited him. Not once in the past four years. Not after the screaming match with their father. Not after he stormed out of the Verlic estate and swore he would build his own empire without the family's influence. And definitely not to ask for blessings.Which meant this marriage to Seraphina was important.Far more important than Joe was willing to admit.Veronica slowly leaned back into the couch, replaying every word he had spoken.“I want to be feared by the council.” Her gaze darkened. The Council.Even speaking about them openly was dangerous. They were the invisible rulers behind the city’s wealthiest families. Kings without crowns. Monsters were hidden behind luxury and politics,

Everything seems to be falling into place for the Locharts. The marriage preparation was going so smoothly that it seemed it was the only thing they cared about.“What about the dresses? Are they ready?” Vivan said over the phone.“They should be in in some days...”“What the fuck do you mean? What do you mean, in some days?” Vivan barked.“I want the cloth ready in two days’ time, or I am going to show you why we are the Locharts!”She banged the phone down like some enraged bull.Marcus and Leo walked out of their room almost at the same time.“Is everything alright, Mother?” Leo asked, scratching his eyebrows.“Yes!”Vivan said with a cold voice. “I am sorry. The seamstress has been messing with me.”“Is this about Seraphina’s clothes?” Marcus asked.“Yes. She is too slow for a seamstress,” Vivan replied. The room went silent.“What about grandfather? Is he still angry about all of this?” Marcus asked.Leo rolled his eyes like he didn't care. “You all need to stop thinking about th

The room remained deathly silent after Arthur’s words.Seraphina’s fingers slowly tightened around the newspaper in her hand while her eyes scanned the article again. Her heart was beating strangely now.Too many things were beginning to connect together in ways she didn’t like.Arthur constantly defending Kael. The shooting incident. The strange confidence Kael always carried around himself even when they humiliated him.But no.It still made no sense.Kael was nobody. He had to be nobody.Because if he wasn’t… then what exactly had they done?Marcus suddenly scoffed loudly, breaking the silence.“This is ridiculous.”He stood up from the couch and walked toward Arthur slowly.“You are trying too hard to scare us with stories about a dead man.”Arthur calmly puffed smoke from his cigar. “Dead?” he asked quietly. "For your sake, I really hope Kael stays dead because of he doesn't..." Marcus frowned. “What?”Arthur leaned forward slightly. “Did you see his body lowered into the grave y

Carlos looked into the room one last time. "I don't want any mistakes." he said with a harsh look on his face. "Everything is ready, Mr Carlos. No mistakes." A young lady in her twenties said she her head bowed slightly. "It better be or it will be you on that sick bed." Carlos replied. "Aren't you old for this?" Carlos turned to see Veronica walking towards him. "No. Especially when it comes down to your father's health. I have been taking care of him now since he was a boy. I won't stop now." Veronica stared into his eyes like she was trying to read his facial expression. "You seem to know more about my own father than me." Carlos smiled. "Of course not. He is your father and I believe you are closer to him than I am." "Stop patronising me, Carlos. You don't need to say it." Veronica said casually waving him off. "How is he?" Carlos sigh. "Not good. He is going to give up the ghost very soon if your so called healer doesn't get here in time." Veronica took out her phone a

The words struck the air like thunder. For a moment, nobody moved.Carlos stood frozen. His eyes fixed on Boyd like he had said the impossible. The color slowly drained out of his face, while Boyd kept staring at the floor, like he couldn’t bear to look at him directly."What did you say?” Carlos finally asked quietly.Boyd swallowed hard. “Mum is dead.”Veronica immediately covered her mouth in shock. “No…” she whispered.Carlos laughed softly. It was the kind of laugh that frightened people."You must be joking.” He stepped closer to Boyd. “Your mother is impossible to kill.”"She was found this morning." Boyd finally raised his eyes. They were red. “In the old house.”Carlos' expression hardened instantly. “The old house?”Boyd nodded slowly.Veronica immediately noticed the sudden shift in Carlos’ face. The grief disappeared too quickly. In its place was something else. Fear. "How?" Carlos asked.Boyd hesitated. “I think she was murdered.”The servants around them gasped quietl

"Tell her, Carlos. Tell her how my wicked father planned on cutting me out of his will and giving everything to you!" Joe barked. Veronica let out a long sigh. She simply walked back to a couch and sat down. Joe was thrown back. His gaze landed on Veronica who seems to be less bothered. "So, you knew?" he said with irritation in his voice. "Is that why you made a mess of everything? Is that the reason you killed men who once protected you?" Veronica asked Carlos said nothing. He walked closer to Joe. "Did you kill my wife?" he asked The room went silent. Joe laughed. "You think I am scared of you? I don't know what you are talking about. Why would I kill your wife when I could actually kill you!" Carlos rubbed his temple slightly. Beaded sweat formed on his forehead. " You need to leave now, Master Joe. You have done enough for today. Pease lewe." "And what if I don't? What are you going to do?" The air grew even more tense. "You don't really want to know that, Joe

"What the fuck happened here?" Dennis said in dismay. His face scanned the dead men lying on the floor with horrific looks on their faces. He looked at Kael, thinking he was going to say something, but he didn't say anything. He simply walked past the bodies towards the Verlic mansion. The door opened suddenly, and Veronica dashed out, running towards him. She jumped forward, colliding with Kael as her hand spread round his neck. Her chest breath was a bit hardened. "You came," she said slowly. Kael didn't move. He simply stayed like that for a while, allowing her to feel more at ease. "I told you I was going to come. "We had a deal, remember?" he said with a cold gaze. Veronica stared into his eyes and didn't understand why a warm man she had seen a couple of days ago would suddenly look untouched. "Is something wrong?" Kael asked. Dennis walked closer to them. "What the hell happened here?" he stared at Veronica."My brother happened. He left not too long ago," she sniffl
