CHAPTER 91
The morning sun was completely hidden behind thick, gray clouds. The dirt road was dry, dusty, and endless.Yuchen walked at a steady, mechanical pace. He kept his dark brown cloak pulled tightly around his shoulders. His dark sunglasses hid his glowing golden eyes. He held a large, old paper map in his hands, staring at the faded ink lines.Seraphina walked beside him. She was wearing a simple brown traveler's cloak over her silver-mithril armor. Her silver hair was tied back. The deep cut above her eye was healing, but a fresh pink scar remained."We have been walking in a complete circle for four hours, Yuchen," Seraphina said, crossing her arms. She let out a long, heavy sigh. "I know this forest. My father’s kingdom, the Silver Domain, is supposed to be right past these hills. But the hills keep changing shape."Yuchen did not look up from the map. "Your father’s kingdom is protected by ancient magical illusion barriers, client. Normally, a standard navigation compass could bypas
CHAPTER 92
The dark dirt tunnel was cold and completely silent.Water dripped slowly from the low dirt ceiling, hitting the puddles on the floor with quiet, echoing splashes. The air smelled of wet rocks and old mud.Yuchen walked at the front while Seraphina walked close behind him. She kept her hand against the cold dirt wall to balance herself. The dark tunnel was narrow, forcing them to walk in a single straight line."How much further?" Seraphina whispered. Her voice echoed slightly in the small space. "The air is getting very thin down here. I can barely breathe.""My internal system clock indicates we have been walking for exactly forty-two minutes," Yuchen replied flatly. He did not turn his head. "The miner stated the underground river was at the end of this path. The humidity in the air is currently rising by twelve percent. We are getting very close to the water.""I cannot wait to see the sky again," Seraphina said, letting out a long, tired breath. "Even a gray sky is better than th
CHAPTER 93
Riven stood in the center of the massive cell. The five giant berserkers, the Blood Hounds, stood around him. They were no longer chained. They wore thick iron armor made specially for their massive bodies. They carried giant steel axes and heavy spiked clubs. They looked like monsters ready for war.Riven pulled his dark gray mask up over his scarred face. His broken arm was strapped tightly to his chest. His good right hand held his poisoned, curved blade."We leave now," Riven whispered. His cold voice echoed off the stone walls. "We ride west. We will burn every tree and smash every rock until we find the merchant."The five giants roared loudly. They banged their heavy weapons against their steel shields. They were ready to kill.Suddenly, the heavy iron door of the dungeon burst open.A young royal messenger ran into the room. He was out of breath. His face was pale, and his legs were shaking terribly. He stopped when he saw the giant, scary berserkers staring at him with hun
CHAPTER 94
The dark, heavy clouds poured freezing rain over the western border prison. The massive fortress was built straight into the black rock of the mountain. It looked like a giant, ugly stone monster.Six horses rode slowly up the muddy path toward the giant iron gates.Riven rode at the front. His dark brown cloak covered his black scale armor. His left arm was tied tightly in a sling. His scarred face was wet from the rain. His dead, cold eyes stared directly at the high stone walls.Behind him rode the five Blood Hounds. The giant berserkers rode massive, heavy war horses. They carried giant steel axes and spiked iron clubs. They breathed heavy, white clouds into the freezing air. They were completely ready to kill."The gate is shut, little snake," Vash, the biggest giant, rumbled. He rested his giant spiked club on his shoulder. "Do we knock?""We do not knock," Riven whispered coldly.Riven pulled back the hood of his cloak. He looked up at the high stone wall above the iron gate."
CHAPTER 95
Tyron stopped walking when he saw a large crowd of people standing in the rain. They were gathered outside a loud, dirty tavern. They were all pointing at a large piece of wet paper nailed to the wooden wall.Tyron narrowed his sharp eyes. He pushed his way through the crowd of dirty farmers and cheap mercenaries. He did not care if he shoved them aside. He stepped right up to the wooden wall and looked at the poster. It was a wanted poster.**WANTED FOR TREASON. DEAD OR ALIVE. REWARD: 500 GOLD COINS.**Below the big black letters was a perfect drawing of a young man wearing dark sunglasses.Tyron completely froze."Yuchen," Tyron whispered under his breath. He stared at the face on the paper. Tyron felt a sudden, sharp spike of anger in his chest. Yuchen was his enemy. They had fought bitterly in the past. Yuchen was a cold, calculating merchant who had ruined Tyron's plans and stolen something incredibly valuable from him. Tyron hated the merchant's guts."Crazy, isn't it?" a voice
CHAPTER 96
"Tyron," Yuchen whispered flatly. "Your arrival is a highly unexpected variable. But it is very efficient. Break the red rune directly below my feet. It is the core of the magic trap."Tyron rolled his eyes. "You are chained to a wall, about to die, and you are still giving me orders? I should just leave you here.""Yes I am," Yuchen stated coldly. "Now throw your knife."Tyron gritted his teeth. He hated that the merchant was right. Tyron quickly pulled a small, sharp throwing knife from his belt. He aimed carefully and threw it straight down through the hole in the ceiling.*CRACK!*The sharp steel knife hit the glowing red rune on the stone floor perfectly. The magical symbol shattered like broken glass.Instantly, the bright red light vanished. The invisible magical ropes completely disappeared.Yuchen fell heavily to the wet stone floor. He landed on his hands and knees, gasping for air. His wrists were bleeding badly from the deep iron chains, but he was finally free.Tyron pull
CHAPTER 97
The massive bronze alarm bells of the western border fortress began to ring.BONG! BONG! BONG!The deep, terrifying sound shook the solid black rocks of the mountain. It cut through the howling wind and the heavy, freezing rain. The entire prison was waking up in a total panic.Down in the main courtyard, absolute chaos exploded."Seal the exit points!" the guard captain screamed at the top of his lungs. He ran through the mud, waving his heavy sword. "Drop the heavy iron grates! Lock the outer walls! No one gets in, and absolutely no one gets out!"Massive iron gears grinded loudly inside the stone walls. Huge, thick iron gates slammed down into the mud with heavy, earth-shaking thuds. Dozens of border guards ran wildly across the courtyard, carrying bright orange torches that hissed and smoked in the pouring rain. Crossbowmen rushed up the stone stairs to the high towers, pointing their weapons out into the dark night. The fortress was instantly locked down tight. It became a perfec
CHAPTER 98
"Keep running!" Tyrion shouted over the roaring wind.Tyrion sprinted along the edge of the high stone wall. His dark cloak flapped wildly behind him. He did not look back. He leaped over a wide gap between two guard towers, landing perfectly on the slippery stones on the other side.Yuchen jumped right after him. The merchant landed with a heavy thud, his boots splashing in the deep puddles. Seraphina jumped last. She barely made it. Her boots slipped on the wet stone, and she almost fell backward into the deadly drop. Yuchen reached out with his fast reflexes, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her safely up."My stamina is dropping," Seraphina gasped. She held her bruised ribs tightly. "I cannot keep up this pace.""You have to," Yuchen said flatly. "If we stop, we die. The probability of survival drops to zero."*THWIP. THWIP. THWIP.*A dozen heavy steel crossbow bolts zipped through the air. They shattered against the stone wall right behind Yuchen’s head."They are right behind us!"
CHAPTER 100
The cold, sharp edge of the poisoned blade pressed against Seraphina’s cheek. She stared up into Riven’s completely dead, terrifying eyes. She could feel the dark, evil energy rolling off his scarred body. He wanted her to beg. He wanted her to cry and scream for mercy.Seraphina gritted her teeth. She was a knight of the Silver Domain. She refused to give him what he wanted."I will never beg you," Seraphina spat.Suddenly, a bright blue light flared deep inside Seraphina’s chest. She pushed every single drop of her remaining magical energy into her broken body."Noble Art: Repel!" Seraphina screamed.A violent burst of blue magical wind exploded outward from her body. The sudden force hit Riven directly in the chest. It pushed the assassin backward just a single step. His poisoned blade slipped away from her cheek.Seraphina did not wait. She forced herself to stand up. She channeled all her remaining mana into her right fist. Her fist glowed brightly like a small blue star. She lun
CHAPTER 101
Riven slowly pushed himself up from the dirt. He wiped a mixture of dark mud and blood from his terribly scarred face. His left arm was still broken and tied in a sling, but his right hand held his curved, green-poisoned blade tightly. He looked at Yuchen. He looked at the golden light burning behind Yuchen’s cracked sunglasses.Slowly, an ugly, evil smile spread across Riven’s face. He began to chuckle. It was a dry, raspy, insane sound."Finally," Riven chuckled softly. "Finally, the little shopkeeper is ready to play. But you are making a massive mistake, boy. Anger makes you blind. Anger makes you stupid."Yuchen did not speak. He did not calculate his stamina. He did not check his profit margins. He only saw the blood covering Seraphina’s beaten face."System Command: Kinetic Blade," Yuchen whispered. His voice was deep and filled with pure murder.A long sword of crackling blue magic appeared in his right hand.Yuchen lunged forward. He moved faster than he had ever moved befo
