CHAPTER 1
Johnson Harford laid weakly on the hospital bed staring blankly at the white ceiling above him. His body felt numb from the waist down and every little movement sent a painful sting through his spine. The door opened and a Middle-aged doctor stepped in. “Mr. Harford, we need to talk”.The serious expression on the doctor’s face made Johnson uneasy.“What is it, doctor?” Johnson asked nervously. The doctor folded his hands together.“You were brought here three days ago after suffering a spinal cord injury. We already explained that you need immediate surgery.”Johnson swallowed hard. “But unfortunately, since you were admitted here, no payment has been made for the surgery. We have tried to wait because your condition was critical, but we cannot delay any longer. If the surgery is not performed within the next three hours…”He paused briefly before adding, “I am sorry, but you will never walk again for the rest of your life.”Johnson’s eyes widened instantly. His breathing became
CHAPTER 2
Johnson remained frozen on the hospital bed long after the call ended. His hand still held the phone tightly while his mind replayed Mrs. Clifford’s words again and again.“Preparing for her wedding tomorrow…”How was that even possible?Bethany was already married to him.Johnson swallowed hard and shook his head weakly.“No,” he muttered to himself. “That woman is lying again.”He knew how much his mother-in-law hated him. Ever since he became Bethany’s husband, she had never hidden her disgust toward him. She always mocked his poor background and constantly told Bethany she deserved a richer man.Johnson closed his eyes tiredly.“She is just trying to hurt me,” he whispered. “She saying all those lies just to make me feel bad. That is all,” he said bitterly. He was still lost in thought when the door suddenly opened again. The doctor walked back inside the room with a serious expression. The doctor sighed deeply before speaking.“Mr. Harford, I have some bad news.”Johnson’s heartb
CHAPTER 3
Johnson slowly stepped down from the taxi and stared at the massive Clifford mansion before him.Pain still spread through his body from the surgery, but he ignored it completely as his eyes scanned the compound.Almost immediately, a deep frown appeared on his face. The mansion looked strangely empty.Usually, the compound was always busy with guards, maids, expensive cars, and gardeners moving around. But today, the place looked unusually quiet.Johnson frowned deeply.“Where is everyone?” he muttered softly. He slowly began walking toward the gate when suddenly, the family’s butler rushed out of the mansion in a hurry. The middle-aged man carried a black jewelry box tightly in his hands while heading toward a standby taxi parked nearby.Johnson immediately called out to him.“Wait!”The butler stopped abruptly and turned around. The moment he saw Johnson, his eyes widened in surprise.“Mr. Johnson?” he said in shock.Johnson slowly approached him.“What is going on?” he asked in co
CHAPTER 4
The entire hall remained silent as Johnson stood frozen near the entrance, staring at the stage with shattered eyes.On the stage, Bethany Clifford slowly pulled away from the kiss. For a brief second, Johnson expected shock on her face. Maybe guilt. Maybe panic. But instead, she frowned slightly and asked coldly.“What are you doing here?”Johnson’s lips parted slowly. His throat tightened painfully. He tried to speak, but no words came out.The guests around them had already begun whispering among themselves. But Johnson did not even care to hear what they were saying. His eyes remained fixed on Bethany. Finally, his trembling lips moved.“Tell me…” he whispered painfully. “Tell me I am dreaming.”Bethany’s expression remained cold. Before she could reply, the groom beside her suddenly became irritated.George Anderson narrowed his eyes at Johnson.“Bethany,” he said with annoyance, “who is this bastard interrupting our wedding?”Johnson slowly turned his eyes toward him. Pain and
CHAPTER 5
Johnson’s heart pounded heavily inside his chest as he stared at the divorce papers in Bethany’s hands. His fingers trembled slightly. Then slowly, he lifted his head and looked at Bethany with disbelief written all over his face.“You are joking… right?” he asked incredulouslyBethany’s expression remained completely cold.“Joking?” she laughed callously. She folded her arms and sighed impatiently. “I am only doing what I should have done a long time ago.”Bethany continued coldly.“The only reason I even agreed to marry you in the first place was because of my grandfather.”Bethany’s grandfather was the only person in the Clifford family who had ever treated him kindly.Johnson had once saved the old man from arm robbers and in gratitude, he had arranged for Bethany to marry Johnson despite the family’s objections.“But now,” Bethany continued carelessly, “my grandfather is dead.”Her eyes slowly drifted toward George lovingly.“And now I can finally marry the man I actually want.”
CHAPTER 6
Johnson looked behind him immediately to see if the old man was speaking to someone else. But to his surprise, there was nobody behind him.The road was almost empty except for the black luxury cars and the men standing respectfully nearby.Slowly, Johnson turned back toward the old man. His brows furrowed in sincere confusion.“Are you talking to me?” he asked. The old man immediately bowed slightly again.“Yes, Young Master,” he replied respectfully. “I am speaking to you.”A bitter laugh almost escaped Johnson's mouth. He shook his head tiredly.“I am sorry sir, but there is definitely a mistake somewhere. You have the wrong person. My name is Johnson Harford and I am not anybody's young master.”Without waiting for a response, Johnson walked past him and continued moving down the road. But before he could take more than three steps, the old man quickly rushed to stand in his path again.Johnson stopped abruptly. A deep frown appeared on his face. “What is this?”The old man quick
CHAPTER 7
Johnson stared at the emotional middle-aged man in front of him. His heart was beating so loudly that he could hear it in his ears.He swallowed hard before finally finding his voice, "How do you know I am your son?"The question immediately made the man nod. Instead of answering directly, Mr. McArthur slowly walked forward."Johnson, tell me something," he said gently. "Do you have a birthmark on your shoulder that looks like a half moon?"The moment those words left the man's mouth, Johnson froze. His hand instinctively moved toward his shoulder. His eyes widened, "How do you know that?" he asked in shock. The man smiled sadly. Without saying a word, he began unbuttoning his own shirt.Johnson frowned in confusion.A few seconds later, the man pulled the shirt aside and turned his shoulders towards Johnson.Johnson's breath caught in his throat."The mark..." Those two words escaped his mouth automatically. There, on Mr. McArthur shoulder, was the exact same half-moon birthmark.Joh
CHAPTER 8
A few minutes later, Johnson was about to step through the grand gates of the McArthur mansion when someone suddenly called out behind him."Young Master! Please wait!"Johnson turned around and saw a man dressed in a professional chauffeur's uniform hurrying toward him.The man stopped in front of him and bowed respectfully, "Young Master, where are you going?"Johnson looked at him in confusion."I just want to buy some clothes."The chauffeur looked alarmed."You cannot leave like this!"Johnson frowned."What do you mean?""Young Master, Master McArthur arranged thirty luxury vehicles exclusively to be your convoy and they are all at your disposal."Johnson blinked."Thirty?""Yes, Young Master. They are to escort you wherever you are going."Johnson rubbed his forehead, "I think it is going to take me some time to get used to all of this," he muttered. Then he looked at the chauffeur and said calmly, “Thank you but I don’t need any escort right now”."But Young Master—""The only
CHAPTER 9
When the gathered crowd heard that, they burst into laughter as they examined Johnson’s appearance from head to toe."This loser couldn’t even afford to wear decent clothes and he wants to pay one hundred million dollars?” One customer asked surprised."Maybe he heard one hundred dollars," another added drawing more giggles.Johnson ignored the mocking voices and looked calmly at the manager, "I only want to help someone I know."The manager stared at him before bursting into laughter."You?" he sneered. "Help her?"He pointed at Johnson's disdainfully, "If you can pay the money, I will personally give you $50 million or resign from position as the manager of the store."Surprisingly, Johnson nodded, “deal!”The crowd even laughed harder thinking Johnson was just bluffing.Jacintha rushed toward Johnson, despite her situation she still managed to give him a contemptuous glare."Johnson, please stop this," she whispered anxiously. She grabbed his arm, "Do not make things worse for me.
