41. The Next Plan: killing the Devil's Son
The rain continued to pour. Thunder and lightning followed. Lucian, Noel, and Isabel remained in the cave.Water dripped from the ceiling, slow and steady. The walls shuddered slightly with each crack of thunder. The storm was getting worse.Noel was standing, facing the rain. "Maybe you are right. Maybe I didn't come alone.""I thought as much," Lucian said.Noel turned to Isabel. "You've been staring at me since we got here. Is there anything you'd like to say?"Lucian turned to Isabel."I was just wondering, when did all this happen? When did you two meet?" Isabel asked."It's a long story," Lucian said, feeling a bit tense. He just realized he hadn't told Isabel he snuck out that night.Noel scoffed. "So she doesn't know about that night. You've been keeping secrets from your companion.""Companion?" Isabel repeated. "It's not like that. He's my—""She's my partner. My companion," Lucian said, cutting her off. He turned to Isabel. "Right?"She slowly nodded."Isabel, you need to t
42. The Devil's Lair
Somewhere in the Dead Valley. Two massive doors groaned open. They were carved from black stone, etched with ancient symbols that pulsed faintly with purple light. The sound of grinding rock echoed through the cavernous entryway. A figure stepped through, dressed in the colors of ash and black. His chest was bare, his shirt unbuttoned, revealing the toned muscle beneath. He had dark hair and silver eyes. The torchlight caught the sharp angles of his face. Another figure stepped beside him. A woman dressed in the Everstar guard uniform, her hand resting near the hilt of her blade. The room before them was vast. A palace hall built entirely underground. The ceiling stretched high above, supported by massive pillars carved into the shapes of twisted creatures. Chandeliers of black iron hung from the stone, their candles burning with eerie purple flames. The floor was polished obsidian, reflecting the dim light like a dark mirror. Goblin-like creatures stood guard along the walls. Th
43. Attack on the Devil's Guard
The interior of the Devil's fortress burned in a chaotic sweep of thick black smoke and roaring flames.Cutting straight through the haze, a lone figure stepped out from the shadows into the blinding light, his long white hair sweeping sharply down his back while his white cloak remained entirely untouched by the soot.Cassian Everstar, the Third Prince, moved with lethal, unbothered grace, holding a long, thin sword that glinted with a sharp white radiance.A goblin guard suddenly lunged from the smoke, thrusting a jagged bone spear with terrifying speed.Cassian barely shifted his weight. With a single fluid motion of his blade, the goblin's head severed cleanly from its shoulders, a spray of purple blood erupting from the neck while not a single drop managed to stain his pristine clothing. Before another flanking goblin could close the distance from behind, a hand slammed onto its skull, causing the creature's entire upper body to detonate in a shower of flesh and bone.Cassian paus
44. A walk of silence
The rain had stopped. Isabel, Lucian, and Noel were on the move to the bluish mountains. The forest was thinning. The trees were shorter here, their branches bare and twisted. The air was colder. The blue mountains loomed ahead, their peaks pale against the grey sky. Every step brought them closer.Isabel walked behind them. Quietly. Far from them. Her eyes stayed on the ground. The wet leaves made soft sounds under her boots. She watched them flatten and spring back. She watched the water drip from the branches. She watched anything except the two figures walking ahead of her.Lucian glanced back at her. She didn't notice. Her head was down. Her arms were wrapped around herself, even though the rain had stopped. He turned forward again. Then he glanced back a second time. She still didn't look up."We need to think of a plan," Noel said. "We can't just charge at the demon."Lucian hesitated. "Have you unlocked your Soul Weapon yet?"Noel nodded. "Some days back.""How did you do it?"
45. The Truth Beneath the Mountain.
Noel whimpered as tears poured freely from her eyes, while Isabel sat beside her in absolute silence, offering comfort through a gentle embrace.Lucian stood by the cave entrance without saying a word, sensing that something was deeply off as he studied the carnage. The precise nature of the wounds and the deliberate arrangement of the bodies didn't look like a random monster attack, which would have been much messier and more scattered. This was an act of pure, uncontrolled rage executed by a person, with every corpse placed like a bloody warning or a twisted signature. He thought back to the figure he had seen watching from the peak of the mountain and realized with cold certainty that someone else was here.Noel banged her fist against the stone. "Curse him. I told you he was evil. Look at what he has done."Just then, a freezing wind blew into the cave, filling the confined space and coiling around them like a living, breathing presence.Lucian turned around to see a shadowy figure
46. The Bet at the Summit
"Whoever did this, I will kill them," Dae muttered. "And I don't need your help."Noel picked up her spear, her face lowered toward the cold ground."I came here to save my brother. We had a plan. A plan to kill the Devil's child." She raised her head, eyes burning with wild rage. "I will do just that."Frost erupted around the tip of her weapon, forming a blade of ice. She lunged at Dae, swinging her spear in a wide arc, but he dodged effortlessly. She pursued him, blasting ice shards in every direction that shattered uselessly against the stone.Lucian stood still and watched the frantic exchange. He knew Noel wouldn't listen. She was the type of person who pretended to be tough. She wanted to be seen as strong. She refused to let anyone perceive her as weak or foolish. He had intentionally called her a fool earlier just to gauge her reaction. He didn't mean it literally. He needed to test whether his assessment of her was correct, or if she possessed a soft core ready to yield.Noe
47. Checkmate
"Why the sudden silence? Do we have a deal or not?" Dae asked.Lucian remained silent. He could hear the rumbling nearing, too close now. The heat was pressing in from all sides. The wall of fire encircling the mountain burned brighter, hotter. He didn't have much time. He had to make a decision.'Something is not right.'The thought surfaced from somewhere deep. His strategic mind. His instinct screamed at him to hold on with his decision. Then the world around him slowed. The rumbling of the monster horde faded to a distant hum. The crackling of the fire wall became a whisper. Dae stood frozen in front of him, waiting for an answer that wasn't coming soon.Lucian closed his eyes. When he opened them, he was somewhere else. The mountain was still there, but muted. Grey. The flames were frozen mid-flicker, their light suspended in the air like captured lightning. The monsters on the slope below were statues, their burning bodies motionless. Even Dae was still, his red eyes fixed o
48. The Heaven Light Sword
Lucian and Dae remained locked in an intense stare."In just a second, I would have won. I would have killed you," Dae snarled, his calm facade finally breaking."You are sick. I can't believe I fell for your trick," Lucian said coldly.Dae let out a dark laugh. "You thought I was going to let you go, didn't you? You thought I was being respectful.""Shut up." Lucian pushed the hilt tighter. "Now you are going to call off that demon parade, or I'll blow you apart."Lucian transferred his essence into the sword. It glowed with blinding white light. Dae looked at the glowing steel inside him, then back at Lucian."I can't," Dae mocked, his lips stained red. "We'll have to fight it together."Lucian drove the blade deeper. Dae groaned again, his breath hitching in pain."Do you think I like any of this? Do you think I like this?" Dae struggled to say, his crimson eyes locking onto Lucian. "When I killed her friends, and they screamed... it made me want to kill more. I felt pleasure. But
49. False LIGHT
Lucian ran straight into the fire. The demons roared. He held his mother's sword in his left hand and the Heaven Light Sword in his right. A fire beast jumped at him, jaws open. [False Light] A bright white line shot out from the tip of the rapier. It pierced the beast's head and kept going, cutting through the smoke. The light showed Lucian everything in its path. He could see the exact position of ten more demons behind it. He projected his body into the light. He instantly appeared at the end of the white line, right in the middle of the horde. He swung his left hand. [Light Strike] The silver steel flashed. The demons in the middle fell apart in pieces before they could even blink. [You have killed a Fire Hound.] [You have killed an Ash Goblin.] [You have killed a Dashing Lion.] The system notifications rang in his head. Lucian ignored them. He looked up. Far away, past the edge of the mountain, he saw Dae. The demon wasn't heading to the cave. He was fleeing. Riding
50. The Hellbringer
Lucian saw Dae through his vision. He was getting farther away. A sharp weakness stabbed through his body, but he ignored it and ran. He didn't just run; he blurred across the jagged rocks. The new system stats pushed his body beyond normal limits. His enhanced eyes tracked the exact path the beast took, following the disturbed dirt and crushed rocks. Up ahead, through the thinning smoke, he finally saw them. Dae was resting on the back of the blazing quadruped beast. He looked relaxed, letting the monster carry him further away. Lucian gripped the Heaven Light Sword in his right hand. He didn't slow down. He aimed the tip of the rapier right at the back of the beast's head. '[False Light]' The white beam shot forward, faster than a bullet. It pierced straight through the monster's skull. Lucian projected himself. He vanished from the path and instantly appeared mid-air, right beside the beast's neck. He swung his mother's sword. The silver blade sliced the monster's head clean
