chapter 1
The moon hung above Silver Bridge City like a silver coin carelessly tossed into the heavens. Under its pale glow, the city's sinners crawled from their hiding places to hunt. A young man weaved through the crowded sidewalk, a delivery bag slung across his back, glancing at the worn watch on his wrist every thirty seconds as if looking at it more often might slow down time. Jason only stopped in front of a large building. Before him stood a dazzling neon sign whose brilliance seemed to challenge even the moon. Snakehole Lounge. The playground of Silver Bridge's elites. The city's wealthiest predators gathered here, casually spending a student’s yearly tuition on a drink. Jason exhaled slowly and stepped through the employee entrance. Tonight was supposed to be his day off. Unfortunately, one of the lounge’s regular VIPs, a notoriously spoiled young master, had specifically requested Jason’s service. Faced with a customer who spent tens of thousands of dollars every week, his

The moon hung low over Silver Bridge, but Jason barely noticed the cold wind biting through his thin jacket. He stood by the roadside, waiting for someone he hadn't seen in four years. The heavy glass doors of the Snakehole Lounge swung open. Rose walked out, her arm looped tightly through John’s. When her eyes landed on Jason standing under the dim streetlamp, her expression immediately soured into disgust. She clearly assumed he was waiting for her. "Are you seriously still here?" Rose sneered. "Do you have any dignity left?" John let out a condescending chuckle, adjusting his expensive collar as he looked down his nose at the young man. "Don't waste your breath, babe. People this broke don’t actually have dignity. They just have stubbornness." To emphasize his point, John pulled a sleek key fob from his pocket and pressed the button. Nearby, the headlights of a pristine, matte-black Lamborghini flashed to life, slicing through the darkness of the alley. He smirked, making sure

John stumbled backward, his expensive leather shoes slipping against the cold asphalt. The arrogant smile that had once plastered his face was now gone, replaced by pure and unfiltered terror. The sight of his strongest enforcer groaning on the ground was the breaking point. He didn't even inform Rose of his decision before turning tail and running. Rose, seeing her partner scampering away, needs no further hint before chasing after him. Seth wanted to chase after them, but was stopped by a wave of Jason's hand. “Let them go… for now.” Seth, who had already tensed to launch himself forward, instantly froze and stepped back into the shadows. Gina looked back at Jason, her fierce expression softening into confusion. "Why? They humiliated you." "They aren't worth it," Jason said, his voice exhausted but steady. He looked down at the beautiful young woman standing before him. "I haven't seen you in four years, Gina. I'm not letting trash like them ruin our reunion.” A warm smile br

Pendleton University, with its sprawling ivy-covered brick walls and manicured lawns, was a battlefield disguised as an institution of higher learning. For the elites of Silver Bridge City, it was a high-end networking hub where deals were made between frat houses. For the few working-class students, it was a four-year endurance test. With graduation just weeks away, the campus was buzzing with one primary obsession: the annual senior graduation dinner. It was the ultimate stage for the wealthy to flex their family's status one last time before stepping into the real world. Jason pushed open the heavy wooden door to his dorm room, stepping into the cramped, familiar space. "Jason!" Colman Domingo practically jumped off his bed the moment the door clicked open. The burly, athletic young man let out a massive sigh of relief, dropping his gaming controller. "Damn it, man, you had me worried sick," Colman said, walking over and gripping Jason’s shoulder. He looked Jason up and down,

The economics class was teeming with students, some of whom Jason didn't recognize. The 800 seater lecture hall was filled with students patiently waiting for the economics professor. It was the final class of lectures for this semester, and the lecturer had threatened not to grade anybody who didn't come to class. And it was well known that Mrs Chen always kept her words, regardless of your status or upbringing. Suddenly, everyone began to check their phones, as there was a new mail sent to every student attending that class. It was an apology from Mrs Chen. She was taking an impromptu leave due to unforeseen circumstances. Matthew Bening didn't waste a single second. Stepping to the front of the room, he clapped his hands loudly to draw the class's attention. "Since we've got the afternoon off, why wait for the weekend?" Matthew announced, flashing a highly rehearsed, arrogant smile. "Let's hold the graduation dinner today. My treat." A chorus of excited murmurs rippled through

Jason leaned over to Colman. "I need to use the restroom," he whispered, stepping away from the group and slipped out of the private room He headed towards the corridor near the lobby. However, as he turned to a secluded corner, he heard a deep and aggressive voice that made him stop. Charlotte was pinned against the wall by a burly middle-aged man with a thick, scruffy beard. Relying on his heavy build and Gangstar vibes, he had her trapped against the wall and spoke to her in a threatening tone. “You think you can just walk away from us?” the man snarled, as he slammed his hand heavily against the wall, causing it to vibrate in response. “I don't care who you think you are. You have to follow me, or I drag you along… Either way, you're coming with me.” he declared. Jason's eyes narrowed. He instantly recognized the man. He's one of John's bodyguards, the same thugs who had surrounded him in the alley the night Rose broke up with him. Without a second thought, Jason walked c

Everyone turned to Jason, their faces plastered with mocking grins, fully expecting him to make a fool of himself by asking for the cheapest house blend.Instead, Jason didn't even look at the menu. He simply met the sommelier’s eyes and calmly said, "A bottle of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon. The 1992 vintage, if you have it."The sommelier’s polite, practiced smile broke for a fraction of a second, his eyes widening in genuine surprise. He immediately bowed with deep, deferential respect. "An exquisite choice, sir. I will retrieve it from the cellar immediately."Sitting across the table, Matthew frowned. He actually knew very little about fine wine. He only knew that Jason had just confidently ordered a bottle with a name he had never even heard of.Before Matthew could say anything, Charlotte leaned forward, looking directly at him with an innocent expression."Matthew, do you mind if I order something else?" she asked softly. "I'm not quite used to the taste of the wine Jas

Jason didn't waste a single word. He picked up the leather folder, barely glancing at the astronomical number printed at the bottom of the receipt. Without blinking, he picked up his matte black credit card and handed it to the waiter. "Split it down the middle," Jason said calmly. "Put my half on this." The sommelier took the heavy metal card, his eyes widening slightly at its weight and unmistakable design. He quickly produced a wireless payment terminal and inserted the chip. *Beep. Approved.* The small machine immediately printed out a receipt. The entire transaction went through perfectly, without even the slightest pause or request for authorization. The entire private room froze. The mocking laughter that had filled the air just seconds ago died instantly, replaced by a suffocating silence. Matthew’s arrogant sneer shattered. He stared at the small slip of paper in the waiter's hand as if it were a venomous snake. They had all expected Jason to humiliate himself, to beg

At 9:00 AM the next day, Jason woke up to the sound of Colman snoring loudly, sprawled across his mattress without a care in the world. Jason sat up and glanced toward the far corner of the dorm room. Matthew’s bed was completely empty, the sheets perfectly undisturbed. He hadn't come home last night. Jason could only imagine what kind of miserable corner Matthew was currently hiding in to lick his wounds. Not wanting to disturb Colman’s deep sleep, Jason quietly gathered his things, washed up, and headed out of the dorm alone. The economics lecture that had been abruptly canceled the previous afternoon had been rescheduled for 10:00 AM today. Despite the fact that the rescheduling was entirely impromptu and sent out late at night, when Jason walked through the heavy double doors of the lecture hall, he was surprised to find the massive, 800-seat auditorium almost completely full. Even stranger, as Jason scanned the tiered rows of seating, he quickly realized something highly unu
