CHAPTER FORTY-ONE His face had dark openings, and there were heavy bags underneath his eyes. His entire body was weak while he struggled to keep his eyes open, groaning at the weakness that invaded his bones. By the corner of the room was a table filled with several concoctions and herbs mixed by the Healers who had made several attempts with them in order to revive theEmperor who they were scared was going to die. “My King! You are awake!” Lord Zane moved closer to the King’s bed, and then he bent slowly and grabbed his hand with both hands. A smile appeared on his face afterward, but it vanished the moment he saw that theEmperor was unable to recognize him. “My King? It is I, Lord Zane! I am one of your council members! Don’t you recognize me!” Lord Zane looked at the oldest and most experienced Healer who sighed in despair the moment their eyes met. “What is happening? Why is he unable to recognize me?”“I am sorry, Lord Zane. But theEmperor is lucky to be alive at this moment

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO Patrick remained in his position as he watched the Councilman who angrily walked toward the exit of the King’s room, a few steps ahead of the guards who struggled to catch up with him. He grunted while he moved to an increasing speed, and just when he was about to walk past Patrick, he felt that sudden sensation that made him stop instantly while he looked at Patrick whom he was unable to see. At that moment, the soldiers walking behind him were able to catch up with him after taking a few steps, and they stopped to catch some air. “Is everything okay, Lord Zane?” Asked one of the soldiers who trailed in the direction of his eyes, wondering what he was looking at, but the councilman ignored him and continued staring as though his life depended on it. Unable to get rid of the strange feeling that engulfed him instantly, he took three steps closer to Patrick and stood a few inches away from him, looking at his invisible face while Patrick struggled not to make a so

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE Patrick stood by a corner close to the men, while he waited patiently to hear what they were going to discuss, not minding the fact that they were silent for a while, watching as the soldiers walked away and stood behind two of the column pillars in the middle of the hall. “I hope this is important, Elder Timon. You know that we cannot be seen talking in this way. It will surely raise a lot of suspicion, but nothing should ruin our plans.”“I am fully aware of that, Lord Zane. But this is really important, and I am sure that you must hear it. I forced myself to get away from the others just to tell you this.” “And it couldn’t wait? We agreed to meet with the others tonight.”“It can’t wait, Lord Zane. A lot is at stake, and something must be done about this at once.” Elder Timon insisted with an expression that showed how serious he was about his words. Lord Zane looked around shortly, and when he was able to satisfy his curiosity, he returned his gaze to the H

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR Lord Zane sniggered with a vile expression on his face, nodding in confidence while the other man stared at him with curiosity, wondering what he was up to. “What do you plan on doing?” The Healer asked, seeming a bit wary of how dangerous the councilman was, but all he got was continuous snigger, making him become more nervous even though the intended actions were not meant for him. “I need you to do what I have asked you to do, Elder Timon. We have a meeting tonight, and we shall discuss the rest of the details of our mission at the venue. Inform the others, that no one should be late, and we should all endeavor to remain unsuspicious until all of this is over. We shall surely have victory.” Lord Zane nodded in confidence while Elder Timon bowed down slightly toward him. Even though Patrick stood close to them silently, listening to everything they said, he was very restless and had several thoughts running through his mind. “Someone is coming! Quickly! Hide!

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE “Why would Elder Timon be moving toward the Royal Prisons, Lord Zane? What does he have to do with prisoners?” Draco asked, causing Lord Zane to suddenly realize that he was pointing to the direction of the Royal Prisons. He slowly brought down his hand while he thought of a reasonable thing to say in response to the utterance from the Young Healer.“I think he mentioned that he was going to question the Prisoner who poisoned the King. Maybe he would be willing to tell him the kind of poison he gave to the King.” Lord Zane lied, trying to maintain a good composure even though he seemed a bit anxious. “That’s strange…” Draco said softly, his expression showed signs that he found the councilman’s words very difficult to believe even though he couldn’t intentionally show that he doubted him. “Maybe you should wait for him at the hall, I am sure he will join you there as soon as he is done with his meeting with the prisoner. That could take a while, and I am certain

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX Dwayne grunted both in anger and frustration while he looked at Borius who was still struggling to get up on his feet. He clutched his fists angrily, and then he stomped his feet hard on the floor, producing a loud thud that was a terror to the insects on the ground. A few seconds later, Seth appeared in front of him, and after he had gotten a grip on himself after galloping from one point to another, he sighed heavily and spoke with a faint voice while he was still panting frantically. “Borius! He is awake! Lucy! Lucy! She did something to wake him up!” Seth pointed at Lucy who was still unconscious with Jake standing in front of her, and then he coughed to get rid of the cringe in his body. “I can see that! I am not blind, you moron!” Dwayne voiced out angrily, glaring at Seth who was forced to take a few steps backward while he looked at him with so much fright inside him. “How did she do that? Tell me, how did she do that?” “I am not sure! I think she has t

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN “Aw! That hurts!” “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you!” Heather apologized the moment Boriusgrunted in pain, and then she withdrew her hand from his body and looked at his face with full attention. “What happened? It felt like I was dead, and the next thing I felt was a strange force running through my veins before it gave me this sudden energy.” Boriusasked Heather who wasn’t sure of how to explain things to him, but she could see that he was very curious to know what happened. “Lucy saved you! She used her powers to bring you back!” “Her powers? What powers? She is just a normal Human!” Boriussaid, and then she turned to look at Lucy who was walking toward them with Patrick right behind her, watching her closely just in case she was going to fall down or lose her balance. “She has powers?” Boriusasked with a whisper, looking at Lucy who was striding toward them, and when she turned to look at Heather who had no explanations to give, he decided to wait fo

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT Realizing that Lucy had a point, Patrick quickly ran in front of Borius and spread his arms to stop him from going after Dwayne who was a few meters away from getting to him. “Out of the way, Human! This is none of your concern!” Borius said to Patrick who was not ready to budge as he stood his ground, and made no attempt to leave his way. “Trust me, Borius. You don’t want to do this! Calm down! I suggest you let go of whatever is going on inside your head and focus on the mission.” “You don’t tell me what to do, Patrick! Leave the way! Let me through! Elves are meant to regain their honor! He bruised my ego, and I shall regain my honor! Move!” Borius was not ready to budge, and because she was afraid that he was going to get himself killed, Heather had to cut in at once as she was not ready to lose her brother. “Listen to him, Borius. Just let it go, okay? Let it go!” “Let it go?” Borius angrily turned to look at his sister after he had spoken with a tone la

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE “Borius? I am sorry, please forgive me.” Dwayne turned his focus to Borius when he realized that Heather was looking at him to seek his consent before making the decision to shoot him or not. “Whatever happened a while ago, I believe we can talk about it like true elves. I am sorry for what I did, and I promise never to do that again.”“Your words are not enough, Dwayne!” Borius retorted almost immediately, expressing the displeasure he had for the dark elf whose only mission was to scheme his way into their minds. “Let my actions speak for me, then. If my words are not enough to conBorius you of how sorry I am, then let me make it up to you.” “How? How are you going to do that?” Borius asked calmly, unable to resist the urge to satisfy his curiosity while he stared at Dwayne who sighed before giving him a response. “I promise to help you regain your place in the Royal Fortress. I know how much you want to go back to the days when you had great honor and respec

CHAPTER FIFTY Dwayne had his eyes on both Lucy and Patrick, while he waited for any of them to respond with his smile intact. He looked at them one after the other, and when he realized that they were not eager to give him a response, he sighed before he nodded slowly. “I understand if you guys are not certain of the decision to take, but just know that I have realized that I was wrong, and I am willing to make amends. What is more important for now is the mission, and I think we should focus on it.” Dwayne looked at them one more time, and then he turned around slowly and walked away. “Let’s go, guys! There is no time!” He said without turning to look at him, and almost immediately, Seth turned and started to gallop behind him while the two Humans watched them with several thoughts running through their minds. Borius stared at Dwayne for a while, and then he sighed heavily to get rid of the suspicion that refused to leave him before he turned to look at Lucy who turned to look at
