But Lucas wasn't escaping. He wasn't that stupid.Gabriel obviously had a way of tracking him.And even if he made it to Base C, the probability of them running into each other was high.He didn't want to provoke the psycho. He just hoped that Gabriel's interest in him would die quickly and he would leave him alone.Lucas scanned the area from a high-rise building. It was day three of the apocalypse.Incheon, which was a bustling city that welcomed foreigners from all over the world, now lay in ruins. The city stretched all the way his eyes could see. Towering skyscrapers leaned at impossible angles.Entire streets had collapsed, filled with pothole craters. Wild plants with tenacious roots grew at the side of the roads and running along concrete buildings. From where he stood, Lucas had a good view of where the dungeon gate he entered had appeared. Now it looked like every other street without any abnormality. The only way to clear a dungeon was to find its core and destroy it. If th
Past memories and regrets.
Lucas moved to the next street. He walked in the middle of the road paying zero attention to traffic rules. All around him was quiet.Cars lined the side of the road, already accumulating a thin layer of dust.He soon arrived at a T-junction.To one side loomed the ruins of what had once been a hospital. The building across it had collapsed into a massive heap of broken concrete, twisted steel, and shattered glass.Lucas's eyes lit up with recognition.Although the memories were distant, he was still able to remember some bits and fragments. This was indeed the path they took on the way to Incheon in his past life.Since the main road was blocked, they took an alternate route, winding through backstreets and even residential areas.Lucas continued to walk.Sure enough, the familiar sight of an overturned Camry greeted him upfront. It was exactly the same as back then. There were deep tire marks leading to the spot where the car was, upside down. They pressed on the road, then curved i
Amending past regrets.
"I am a friend of your father," Lucas smiled. His voice was filled with sincerity.Of course he was lying. He had never even seen the latter before. The little boy looked at him with disbelieving eyes. His gaze slowly shifted to the pole in Lucas's hands. The small body shivered, pulling into itself like a snail shrinking into his shell."Oh, this... Don't worry. I was just using it to take care of the bad guys." Lucas noticed his stare. He tossed the bloodied pole with suspicious yellow liquid sticking to it aside, putting up an innocent and harmless look. "Don't worry. This uncle is not a bad person and won't harm you."The kid remained still."It is cold in there, isn't it?" The inside of the narrow drainage was damp, with walls covered with slick brown moss glistening with moisture.A draft of cold air blew through the tunnel. He could feel the low temperature just by standing at the entrance alone.Henry's body let out a violent shudder, as if reacting to Lucas's words. His shoe
Adopting a kid in the apocalypse.
Yoo Mu-hyeon found a house nearby.A thin layer of dust had settled on all the exposed surfaces.Lucas glanced at Gabriel. The latter didn't bother with him and walked straight to the kitchen.Carrying Henry, Lucas walked up the flight of stairs to the second floor. He arrived at a narrow hallway with four doors. Two on both sides. The first two doors he tried were bedrooms. The next one was a narrow storage room. A bucket, mops, and an old dusty vacuum cleaner were stacked on top of each other with an air of negligence.Lucas turned to the door opposite the storage room. It gave way to a green-tiled bathroom.Lucas kept his comment to himself as he strode in.A bluish-green curtain stretched across the room, dividing it into two parts. The shower stood to the left; a white tub, which was slowly turning yellow, was pushed against the wall. To the right was the toilet space.Lucas placed Henry inside the tub and tried the tap.It gave a dull splutter and spat two spurts of water before
Running into familiar faces.
Unlike Gabriel, Lucas was familiar with what the sound represented. Either the formation of a dungeon or a dungeon collapse.Neither of the two situations was exactly good news, but the latter was even more dangerous.Lucas soon relaxed. It has just been a few days since the apocalypse. A dungeon takes between 10 and 15 days before it collapses depending on its grade; therefore, it couldn't have been a dungeon collapsing."You are done, right?" Gabriel stood by the blinds. He was probably concerned about the development."Hold on." Lucas walked back to the kitchen. His eyes briefly scanned around and then locked on the wooden block on the counter. The slots of the wooden block held different kinds and sizes, which is nice.Lucas picked a normal kitchen knife. The edges gleamed with a sharp glint. It wasn't the best, but it was good enough. He returned to the living room and faced Henry, who was sitting on the couch silently."Henry. You have to be quiet, okay? He saw the little boy

They were surrounded on all sides by the infected."Slow down." Lucas made the decision in the split of a second. After all, these were the people he set his eyes on recruiting.Although the situation was quite precarious, it could also be counted as fate."You know them?" Gabriel released his foot on the accelerator, and the truck eased to a stop."Kind of." Lucas's reply was ambiguous. He shoved his head out of the window and shouted towards the two. "Jump!"The infection behind the truck was starting to catch up with them."Jump? Uncle, do you have eyes to see how high up we were? Do you want us to die?" Zoe yelled back. Her words were rushed and carried a heavy sense of panic.Jordan fought off the infected rushing towards them. His arms were coated with a shiny silver metal that was impenetrable. There was no need for weapons, as his hands were enough to smash into their skulls with one punch. While it was impossible for him to get scratched or bitten, Jordon sensed that his stam

"Uh...uncle...uncle..." Lucas felt Zoe picking him from behind. "Uncle, why aren't you saying anything?" He snapped out of the daze and resumed his indifferent look. "Lucas. My name is Lucas, and the little one's name is Henry." Hearing his name being called, Henry looked up. He was still holding the chocolate Lucas handed to him. Nibbling on it bit by bit. As if afraid it would finish. "You have a kid!" Zoe's eyes widen in surprise. She shot Lucas a meaningful look. "Uncle, I didn't know you were married!" "I am not married." Lucas pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. He shot her an irritated look. "And why do you keep calling me uncle? I just turned twenty-one this year. We shouldn't be that far apart in age." "Really, Uncle? But you actually look like you are approaching your thirties." Zoe blinked at him innocently. Lucas scowled at her in response. He felt that she was trolling him. Or did he really look thirty? He sensed Gabriel's eyes shift to him.
Becoming a F ranked awakened.
Huh? DING! | Player profile: | Name: Lucas Harrington Rank: F Strength: 61% Flexibility: 67% | Spiritual energy: 2% | The blue holographic system screen flashed in front of Lucas's eyes. He stared at the space in front of him, unmoving. "I...I have actually awakened." Lucas's voice was soft and low. Audible to no one but himself. He was now awake. He was officially a player? It was like a fireworks party in Lucas's head, and then he remembered the current situation and doused it. Meanwhile, Zoe and Jordon just saw him breaking into a wide grin after killing the last man. His lips stretched end to end, and a bright light gleamed in his eyes. An alert immediately went off in their head. Psychopath! It's a psychopath! Zoe swallowed sharply, thinking that although Lucas looked normal, he definitely wasn't! Lucas straightened up and walked to the woman on the ground. "Are you okay?" His eyes barely settled on her for a millisecond when Lucas immediately looked away. Her
Arriving at Bace C.
Walking around the heavy machinery that remained untouched over the years, they came to an open area.Small iron cages lined the corridor. The cages were brown for rust and resembled items used for transporting livestock. But instead of animals, live, breathing humans were crammed into them.In the middle of the open space were straw mats laid across the floor. They were set out in a way that made it seem like a makeshift stage. The mats were stained with blood and other suspicious liquid that gave rise to a sense of repulsion. It didn't take much to guess what it was used for.It was like a livestock farm. But worse.Zoe trembled at the sight. The women after they were freed didn't move at first.Their face was aghast, and their eyes were dim. They carried a collective sense of misery. The harm they suffered was obvious.Lucas frowned. Their will to live must be very low at the moment. The woman they saved first said something to them, and only then did they move out of the cages. S
Waiting at the observation zone.
Lucas held on to Henry tight as the army truck was flung into the air."Fuck," Lucas groaned. His arm struck the door of the truck during the commotion and was now numb. Before they could let out a breath, a thick purple vein lined with black barbs slithered towards the fallen truck."Don't let it graze you!" Lucas shouted subconsciously. The space inside of the truck was tight and limited movement.Lucas kicked the door open to deflect a vine heading for him and rolled out.Immediately a barrage of attacks rained on him from all sides."What the hell is this?" Zoe looked at the monstrous figure that suddenly appeared from the ground.Long fat tentacles the size of the arm of a grown man "It is a mutated plant. I have seen some before but nothing this aggressive." Maya's actively retreated while saying this.Only Lucas knew it wasn't just a mutated plant but one that had undergone secondary mutation.Despite this, Lucas was unbothered; instead, a gleam of anticipation flashed past hi
