CH.91: The Truth Behind Liberation
The Overseers gathered in a formation that blocked the path. Jax readied himself for attacks, activating the system in his mind."Anomaly detected. Terminate all non-player entities. Initiating sequence."They raised their hands at once and the beams gathered in the form of a silver wave. Jax felt his energy drain as he activated the ice, feeding it with more Silver Core until it formed a dome around the NPCs.When the beams were unleashed, it hit the shield, causing the ground around them to crack. Jax clenched his jaw, teeth gnashing against each other as he forced himself to hold on. His knees strained, muscles stretched close to their limits. The Silver Overseers didn't let up. Each discharge hit harder than the last, the force of it travelling up through Jax's arms and rattling his core.Jax reached into the system and pulled out the Corrupted Blade, charging forward before the Silver Overseers could recharge. He slashed across one of their chests. The sword reached into the Silv
CH.92: Author's Truth
Jax fought through the line of Overseers. Glitch Pulse was what saved him. Those three seconds were very special, using it to push himself out of the hallway. The countdown was so close.Less than ten seconds.Jax sped faster and just before the entire facility crashed into the water, but he got out just in time. The explosion sent him hurtling into the water. Jax sank deeper, lost in a state of unconsciousness. Then, suddenly, his eyes snapped open. His chest hammered faster as he felt the water pressure increasing, tightening around his throat. He began to swim towards the surface. Once Jax neared the surface, he activated the flight skill he harvested from one of Kyle's NPCs and flew into the air.Jax fell just as he reached the bank of the ocean, having exhausted the skill. His chest was heavy and he wiped off his face. The rescue team were also on the bank. The NPCs were being attended to and Jax felt proud of himself. This was his first ever mission without the system being invo
CH.93: Overloaded
Skill Harvest was the first skill Jax activated but it weighed on him, slamming hard against the back of his skull.[SKILL HARVEST: INITIATED.][PARTIAL SUCCESS. 20% EXTRACTION COMPLETE. SYSTEM STRAIN DETECTED.]Jax saw as the system glitched. He had not noticed it earlier but working on a mission for the past couple of hours that wasn't what the system designed for him was draining him more than usual. He was starting to realise that this was a muscle he hadn't trained the Glitch Overlord system to get used to.The distraction made Jax lose focus for a second and the three NPCs charged towards him."We don't have to do this." Jax said, shoving out his hand. They did not listen to him. One of them spotted the trunk that was left behind and heaved it up. Jax read the weight signature, absorbing and pulsating the skill into his hand. He felt it drain more of his energy as the NPC threw the trunk at Jax.He caught it just before it could crush him. His feet dug into the ground, the tensi
CH.94: The Solid Man
The system tab rose in Jax's mind. [SYSTEM SCAN: ENTITY DETECTED.][NAME: BRAX. CLASSIFICATION: ROGUE NPC. LEVEL: 47.][WARNING: DAMAGE DEALT INCREASES TARGET'S MASS AND OUTPUT. DIRECT COMBAT ESCALATES THREAT LEVEL.]The first thing Jax did was to put together all of this information to use. As he scanned the rogue NPC, he began to realise what his power held and how he could use it against him.Jax raised his hands in the air even though the rogue NPC was getting closer. Each step he took, the ground made a quaking sound."Please, we don't have to do this." Jax tried to reach him again. He was seeing beyond the monster that was standing in front of him. He saw beyond what he had been turned into. If there was a connection, it was the fact that Author was an optimistic character to them. He made them believe in things they did not believe themselves and they trusted him enough to let him alter their original data. It turned them into what they ought not to be."But I want to." Brax r
CH.95: First Integration
All those words did nothing to save Brax. Jax ricocheted across multiple walls, not stopping, unable to even slow down if he wanted to. He kept tumbling, body crashing into one wall only to come out through the other and it kept on until he reached a distant room.Brax bent the wind towards himself and tore through the same gap Jax had caused in the walls. He created a larger one. Jax was bleeding. For the first time since his skills upgraded, Jax felt real pain that weakened him.His lips cracked and blood seeped down to his jaw. A part of his forehead was also bleeding. Still, he could feel his healing already entering. Jax punched the ground and tried to stand up."I understand it now." He said slowly as he rose up.Brax was growling before him, he had turned into a full monster."You can never." Brax argued.Jax spat out the blood, coughing as he found his standing again."I do." He coughed again. "You were never given a choice. Not with Author. Not with the game. Not with me eit
CH.96: The Illusionist 1
CRASH…Jax groaned as he crashed into the ground. He scrunched his nose as he propped himself up, surrounded in a field of grasses. The ground was wet, staining his face and he tried wiping it off only to smear himself more. When he looked at his surroundings, Jax was surprised. At first, System Sight could not see beyond what the world showed him.He was in what looked like a painting of some sort. Jax was surrounded by mountains. They spread into the distance before him, looking semi-realistic. He could tell they were not real, and they looked flat and that was scratching at the back of his mind. Some of the mountains had waterfalls, and the sound of the water as it fell into the stream below was even scarier. It made everything look fake while also threatening to be real.He was on one of the higher grounds but this one had grasses. He stepped forward, realising he was on a cliff and there was nothing but an endless expanse of the sky. If he fell, he would keep falling.Jax couldn
CH.97: The Illusionist 2
Vella was dressed like a goddess in a shining armour that gleamed with golden lights.Jax focused on her. He drew out the Flame Sword in one hand and ice whip in the other. The blade burned with black fire, hinting at the rate of energy poured into it.The two of them scanned each other, eyes centering on one another and then they charged. Jax shifted to the left, lashing out the whip which Vella blocked by creating a portal so that the whip came back to attack Jax.But he caught it. He used the Flame Sword, blocking the whip and at the same time, letting the whip wrap around the Flame Sword. He then flipped it in the opposite direction and hurled the Flame Sword towards Vella. She did not expect it and she lost her footing.Jax sped towards her, crashing her into one of the mountains but instead they passed through it. She laughed, her eyes almost watering."You forget I created all of this."She kicked Jax off of her and drew chains that held him down. Before Jax could free himself,
CH.98: The NPC who Burns
The third floor opened to Kyle waiting for Jax. He ventured into the office he and Author had last spoken. Jax exhaled sharply, his lips pressed thin as he came to see Kyle instead.Kyle smiled. "You look disappointed. I can't say the same thing for myself. I'm proud to be in the presence of the great Glitch Overlord." He said, clapping.Jax scanned the room with System Sight and noticed that it was only him and Kyle that were there. He settled his gaze back on Kyle. "Tell me, where is Author?"Kyle snapped his fingers, his eyes falling like he had been hurt in the chest. "Author. Author. Author."He tsked as he eyed Jax briefly. He walked over to the other side of the table. His hands grazed over some of the paperwork and raised them high."What's your obsession with Author? There are some of us who would like to have your attention.""This is not a joke." Jax said, tightening his tone.Kyle raised both brows. "Fair." Having clicked his tongue, he finally focused on Jax as he dipped
CH.99: Dragon's Breath
The surrounding buildings melted just from the intensity. Jax's eyes grew bigger and his skin lit up as though he was directly in front of the sun.Jax connected with all the skills he had received and tamed and he let all that remaining energy burn into Vortex Core.As the fire slammed into Jax, he rooted his legs into the ground. The heat blasted at Jax but he retained it. His hands coiled around it. He allowed himself to submit to it right before he took charge.Just like he had always done. The same way with the game. First, surrender. Then retaliate.Glitch Pulse.Time paused and Jax breathed in the fire, drawing power from it. His health bar went down drastically but then stopped. Jax could now breathe inside of it.Glitch Absorption. The fire was now a charging system for Jax. All those cracks melted into his depth. Jax fused with them and rose into the air. When the fire stopped, Jax was shining. He was surrounded by the radiation of all of those systems."This is impossible.
CH.100: Another Way
There were times when experience was all that was needed to learn new things. Each position the Glitch Overlord had found himself in was to build him. This much, he had come to trust in.Jax's arrival to the operational section of the facility opened his sight to what Author was building. The knowledge was differential to the actual sight.NPCs were submerged into cubes that were filled with fluid, bubbles emitting from the mask that was placed on their faces. Tubes were connected to them and overall, connected to a container that transferred the corrupted system into them. When Jax destroyed it, the cubes split and he turned around to face Author, the main culprit."This has gone beyond help, Author." Jax said and took a simple step forward. "I will not tell you this again.""I see you finally found me." He said, and Jax squinted his eyes.Scanning Author's data, Jax realised how far he would go just to achieve this maddening goal of his. He did not even ask about Kyle or any of the
