CH.101: Last Battle With The Liberator
Jax appeared right in front of Author and touched his forehead. He reached into the data of Author and forced the files of his soldiers dying, their last moments, into his mind. Especially Kyle's.Author dropped to the floor and began to convulse. He grabbed his head as he tried to get it out of him.Jax focused back on the container and placed both hands on it. His health bar shook as the system stirred into him. His skin stretched to its maximum limit and his muscles constricted. The pain was like ice and fire merging and exploding inside him.He pressed his lips thin, trying to hold back the pain. But at some point, he couldn't hold it back and he yelled into the air.All those systems that Author had accumulated, from every player he had stolen them from, from every part of the game he had cheated on, Jax took it all. Everything entered into his body, systems upon systems, colliding into each other.Jax could not even recognise himself. All his senses mixed, fracturing into one pi
CH.102: Nomads
Two Weeks LaterA stony path welcomed Jax with his back bent from the weight of a bag of potatoes he was carrying over his shoulder. He was under the heavy artificial sun that beamed with harsher radiation which made him to be drenched in his sweats. Then suddenly he paused. He sensed something. Jax activated System Sight and scanned the area. [THREE ENTITIES CONFIRMED. PROCEED WITH CAUTION]For a few seconds, he did not move. Before him was an old building and around him, he was surrounded by vines, grasses, and rotten wood scattered all over the floor. The area looked like one that had been abandoned long enough that nature had now taken over. Even the building that was before him was filled with vines and the sound of birds chirped from the distance.Towards the path he had been coming from, there was nothing but the pure silence of a long road. To either sides were tall bamboo trees."I can see you." He said as he straightened his back."Then, this is your end." A voice said as t
CH.103: New Town, Eye-opening
Mira did not say more. She merely watched as Jax stood up. He stretched and cracked his knuckles."As long as we are together, that's all that's necessary. We'll take the fight to who's earned it in due time."At the back of his mind, a part of him knew speaking with Alina again would save more stress. Having used System Sight to read the data of the current location, the place turned out to have been discarded. It meant the Substrates were not there anymore.Jax needed to update his mapping structure but he was being hard-headed.The next day, it was morning when the team set out. Jax and Mira continued their conversation on the liberation of NPCs, joyous at the news Orin received that morning from one of the NPCs back at the Old Ruins. They now had a new Watcher. Eldric could now be relieved of his duties and this new Watcher would protect them and keep them safe. They were also rebuilding the Old Ruins. And Eldric had left them one very important thing. A device that kept the Old R
CH. 104: Choice to Stay or Leave
Everywhere the team went to ask, no one answered them. It was like the captain of the boat said, they do not speak the word anymore. Everyone turned them down before they could even further their questions, like the title was a plague that had destroyed this town. More so, they were worried about the story of this town, what it had come to suffer. When Jax scanned the place, all he could sense was people who had passed though a lot of torment and they were now but a shell of themselves. In the center of the town, it was like everyone was battling a sadness, and the air had been so thickened by it too. “This place is depressing." Orin mentioned. The group was silent because it was true. Mira and Eldric were still talking about it, trying not to agree with Orin when Jax caught the sight of two men approaching them. His breathe hardened, causing him to stand fierce and stared into their eyes. “You've been asking questions. Who
CH.105: Strange Pendants
The walk kept going for a long time. The entire team were exhausted, and the realisation that they were simply following a stranger sank into Jax's head all of a sudden."Everyone, stop."Mira groaned. She caught her breath and held her hand out to emphasise that she was still alive. The young NPC turned back and faced the group. "What happened?""Where are you taking us?""To the Watcher." He replied. Jax sped through the air, appearing in front of him within seconds. He stared into his eyes and read his data. That was the conflicting part. He did not look like he was lying. His heart rate was normal, and for free NPCs, they were just like Players. If they had something up their sleeves, Jax would sense it.This young NPC was rather harmless. But Jax could not just trust him based on that even if his instinct did not feel threatened."We can't just trust you. You're not telling us anything, and you want us to k
CH.106: Through The Storm
Jax turned around as he planted his feet into the beach sand. He was ready to take out whatever was hurrying towards them but when the figure sprinted out of the grasses, he fell into the sand face first."Ah, that burned!" He cried out, rubbing his eyes. "Zephyr, you followed me?" Forge said. The familiarity in his tone suggested that he knew Zephyr and they were even closer than just acquaintances.Jax and his team watched as Forge helped Zephyr up. "You are still clumsy.""And you're still always leaving me behind like I'm the weak one here." Zephyr argued back.Looking at the both of them, Zephyr was the one who had the big body and from the way he spoke, it was easy to tell he was the protector in this friendship of theirs. He looked like he could lift anything. But they complimented each other because Forge looked like the one with the brains."Whatever. Just go back to the Elder. I'm sure she's already looking for you." F
CH.107: Into the Tunnels
Bright green light hummed peacefully inside the tunnel. Everyone had just arrived at the centre of the tunnel where the relics were. The view was amazing, small stones scattered around, illuminating the place. And they were the only source of light."This is so beautiful." Mira said slowly as she wandered about.Everyone had even forgotten the scary sound they heard earlier, courtesy of the beauty of the place, except for Jax who had System Sight scanning every spot just to be sure that they were safe.He did not let himself falter, not even for a second. The rest of the team looked around the place. Now it was time for them to figure out the main reason why they were there."Look at that." Zephyr said aloud, calling everyone's attention.Forge was the first to go to the spot. There were old sigils, scriptures, and archaic books that had torn from the time they had been forgotten down there. The walls had the town's cultural dance and activities carved into them, and it carried the ol
CH.108: Cost of Recklessness
The group stepped inside and the new space was even more beautiful than the first. The green light was brighter here, the illuminating stones more numerous and they were arranged in lines that made them perfect and the history of their traditions were sculptured more accurately in the place.Their eyes settled on the kids in the distance. They were positioned at the centre of the place, where multiple old data crystals floated.System Sight did a headcount and resulted in 21 as the total number of kids."There they are." Forge said. He hurried to take them out of there but Jax sensed something and sped to his front, blocking him. "What are you doing?""Wait." Jax said with the tone of a man who didn't want disagreement. It made Forge stop and wait. Jax looked back at the floor and read the signature. His brows raised as he noticed the trap. He pulled up a holographic image of it for the entire team."Those are land mines." He concluded.Right under the little NPCs were those explosive
CH.109: Miracle
The realisation knocked the air out of Jax's throat. His mind went blank, but then he fixed his gaze back on the team and recollected himself. In the end, he needed to be strong for them. He could not allow his emotions to crush him down again. He only wished Forge had listened. Now, they had to move on. There were little NPCs they still needed to save.Just as Jax wanted to gather everyone, he caught Zephyr moving towards the door again, and Jax sped him out of there."Don't do it." Jax warned with a clenched jaw, pressing his lips tight.Zephyr's eyes watered. His emotions were spiralling out of control. It reminded Jax of his past self. How he had felt that day, and how it led to months being taken away from him."I can't just… he couldn't be gone like that." Zephyr broke down. He sniffed and Jax held onto him, trying to comfort him."I'm sorry. He was a hero to the end." Jax said then he turned Zephyr around. "But this was why he sacrificed himself. For the future of your town."Z
CH.110: The Fearless NPCs
Jax's eyes popped out. The shock gripper him in that moment and he froze."Mira!" He yelled. She had slipped off during the drift. Forge did not hesitate to grab the edge of the rock and caught her by her arm."I've got you—" he had not finished saying when that edge broke off. Jax's mind went blank for a second. He was going to lose Mira. And he would lose Forge for the second time. The memory of Kade whirled into his head. He hadn't saved Kade then. But now he had the opportunity. It was a hard choice. He couldn't leave the floating rock to Eldric alone either or they would all crash.Jax reached into the system tab floating in his mind.[GLITCH PULSE: ACTIVATED.][TIME DILATION: THREE SECONDS EXTENDED.]YES.Jax did not know how he did it but those three seconds became an entire minute somehow. His body felt incredibly light and he could cover a lot within those seconds. He flipped down,
