SCROLL FRAGMENT
SCROLL FRAGMENT NINE ON THE NATURE OF ENERGY; THE MYSTERIES OF THE DIVINE BODY We all know, or have felt the sense of inadequacy associated with the Divine body, and I wouldn’t be surprised if many of you simply attributed it to the fact that your advancement levels was still lacking.Well now, I have stepped into the Transcendent Realm and this inadequacy still exists. Nay, it is even more evident! And this observation have confirmed to me what millennia of research had failed to do. You all call me Dain the Fervent because you believe I have lost all reason to my obsession, but now I can say with some true certainty, based on factual evidence, that I was right. I have discovered finally the true nature of energy; the true nature of the force that binds our world together. And I am not even the first to discover this!I have long suspected that the beings of the Upper Aether were keeping secrets about the sundering from us, and I finally discovered the proof in a hidden cave
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: Answering Summons
Jaron Igarlan hit the ground with a grimace. He stumbled forward a few steps before quickly falling into a Gebo stance, steadying himself. His eyes needed to adjust – they were still blurry – so he didn’t bother with them. He flared his magical senses outwards instead. The Lower Aether was already working its enhancement on him. A range of 10km was made available to his senses, where 5km would have been a stretch back in the Middle Aether. Of course this range only offered a quick overview of the situation around him. He could only sense with details everything around a 1km radius. Enhancement of the Lower Aether, notwithstanding. Nothing stood out in the immediate environment. He was alone, and as yet undiscovered. Patting himself down, he noticed he was still in one piece. Journeying through the barriers this time had fairly burned him alive. Slowly, he opened his eyes. Everything still appeared blurry for a few seconds before they began to render themselves into sh
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: Demon Lord Lilith
Jaron was fast. The woman – Inanna Regina Immortalis, eldest and most powerful of the Demon Lord Lilith’s direct children – was unconcerned. The world rippled. Shockwaves spread as their Divine bodies wrestled for control of the ambient energy, first in feet, then meters. It didn’t end there. The shockwaves grew stronger, seeming now to affect even the very fabric of reality. Jaron grit his teeth and held on stubbornly. His lightning Divine body was weaker than Inanna’s Slaughter Divine body. But it was tenacious. Vengeful. It refused to yield. It was the essence of lightning. The world around them began to ripple. Stones warped, sky and bodies warped. Jaron still hung on stubbornly even with the signs of an imminent breaking occurring around him. If the Demon Princess refused to stop, then neither would he! Cracks split the world. Not on the ground alone. The air cracked. The sky cracked. Cracks that led to a seemingly boundless darkness. Chaotic currents began to
SCROLL FRAGMENT
SCROLL FRAGMENT TEN My presence here seems to have done that which I hoped for. I have appeared to most of these humans in their time of greatest need, helping them fend off the demons, and they worship me for it! They have begun to call me a god, brothers! I mean to keep doing this, and soon the entirety of this layer will revere me as God! My word will be law! This way, we don’t have to worry about them growing arrogant or too powerful again to challenge our supremacy. This way we can see the fulfillment of part of the wish which led us to seek the core in the first place. The demons are the only problem I still have no solution for. They’ve always been powerful and stubborn beyond measure! The humans are still stubborn, but they’re gullible. This is not the case with the demons. They still have Transcendent Realm beings among them, and they have a longer memory. The centuries have not made them forget the world as it was before. They still believe they are of an equal footing
CHAPTER NINETEEN: Night Visitor
The winter had truly begun. It was three weeks since the martial hearing, and changes had taken place in the entire Order. The unofficial ranking was updated with Gilgal placed at the very top, just below the Masters. Knights and Messengers still in the Castle began their meditation again. The recent batch of squires began their exams, and the Masters restarted their special trainings. The potential Masters were all involved with the special trainings, and those Purgers who believed themselves ready for the challenge, joined them. Each of the five Masters decided how their own trainings would go, but all were designed to challenge even hardened Purgers. Master Wyvrill limited his training to theoretical study of magic. But this was in no way simple. The theories took enough comprehension to digest, and he asked questions randomly, assigning punishments for wrong answers. Sometimes, he’d reinforce the lectures with demonstrations in the Order arena, which set hearts trembling.N
CHAPTER TWENTY: Master Windsor of Riderna
Shivering, Gilgal tightened his hand into a fist, directed his entire energy into it, then discharged everything at the wall. But his fist never hit the wall. His force and magic shattered on a translucent barrier inches away from the wall. He stumbled and staggered backwards from the rebound. He didn’t lose his sense of self preservation. Ducking under the grasping hands of the visitor, he spun around to face the fellow, with the open door now behind him.Even at that, though, he knew it was useless. A translucent dome of ice had appeared around them, covering just the room. He didn’t need any prior experience to recognize a domain when he saw one. He could already feel his energy growing sluggish. The rules here were for ice.“Who are you?!” he barked. Able to establish a domain meant a Dominion or Transcendent Realm expert. The fact that the world only trembled slightly made it more likely a Dominion Realm being. But at what particular level with ice affinity? Ice affinity woul
CHAPTER TWENTY ONE: Required Advancement
His energy froze, and his eyes rolled up into his head. Memories flashed past; speeding so he couldn’t make much from them, but the emotions. He floated in a void, with waves of emotions buffeting him. Seconds turned to hours, hours to years. He had no idea when he began to scream. It might have been since the beginning, for all he knew. But what was the beginning? Where did the beginning begin, and where was the end? His scream was all he knew. His scream and waves of emotions. Then it was gone.Gasping, he slumped to his knees and hands. The floor of his room came to shaky focus. The world seemed to sway, and voices reached out to him through the pounding of blood in his ears. A glint in his peripheral vision resolved into his medallion, with the chain snapped. That was when he realized that the gauntlets on his wrist were charred and smoking. Hastily, he pulled off the gauntlets, tossing them away from him. There was no sound of metal on stone. The bl
CHAPTER TWENTY TWO: Cores And Physical Enhancement
“A core is the foundation of a practitioner, boy. It is the accumulation of the magical energy within your body now. As your magic level continues to rise, it’ll get to a point where your body can no longer contain them. At that point, you’ll need to condense that energy into a core. “But here’s the difficulty: a core is not just a ball of energy within your body. It can even be said that the core doesn’t exist in the physical body, but on a separate space entirely; just reflecting here. You know the way the Aether is sundered, boy?”“The different layers of the Aether exist in the same plane, but separated by the barrier such that they do not truly overlap,” Gilgal answered automatically. Every young Purger had learnt as much. But this wasn’t public knowledge. The ordinary humans had no concept of this, and would only panic if told that they lived in the same space together with the demons trying to kill them. It was a thought to confound, certainly. Gilgal only had an idea of w
SCROLL FRAGMENT
SCROLL FRAGMENT ELEVEN I don’t know that I could have stopped them had I tried. But maybe I should’ve. The consequences are not so bad on the surface, but humans are suffering worse now than before. I probably couldn’t have beaten Fondor, but I would have thwarted him, certainly. Thwarted them. That’s the problem, isn’t it? Nearly the entirety of their species were of a single mind, and I alone would have been killed to stop them. If only the others had listened to me; but they wanted to live longer as though death was a concern they needed to worry about any longer. We are indeed not immortal, but when you’ve wrestled the world to submission, what are you, then?In any case, what’s done is done. The sundering has happened, and things will only get worse. I have learnt from the selfishness of the other human Transcendents and abandoned this world to its troubles; just me and you. Let Fondor prance about among them, and let them keep calling him a god. I won’t interfere, and when i
CHAPTER TWENTY THREE: Waking up in Eros
Jaron woke with a start. He felt his head. A week’s growth of stubble lined his ridged jaw. His horns had grown an inch longer, he realized. There was no discomfort at all in his body, not even a mild headache, so he’d been cared for. But memories remained, and he couldn’t – wouldn’t – forget them. He sat up on the bed, looking around. The Dread mother had tried to kill him! Then Inanna had saved him? That part of his memories were foggy, but he remembered dying. The bed he was lying on was no sick bed, but some majestic thing made for monarchs. The carvings were intricate, and they were not done on wood. The bedpost, head and sides were gold inlaid. The mattress was pink and fluffy enough to seem a cloud.Slowly, he surveyed the room itself. It was easily 50m wide, and nearly twice as long, with marble floors or tiles peeking out where rugs didn’t hide them. The walls seemed to shine, looking more like a single slab of river stones than brick, and paintings hung on them. The
