CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR: Audience With Demon Lord Lilith
Jaron’s eyes were drawn immediately to the throne room, like how a single spot of light in a dark room attracts the eyes first time. He blinked. The throne was a monstrosity of silver, gold and myriad gems of varying brightness and sizes. The back rest seemed to have been carved of a single piece of ruby, spreading behind the entire throne like a scarlet halo. The cushions were as pink as nearly everything else in the Palace, but a majority was hidden by the creature who occupied the throne. It was that creature – the Demon Lord Lilith – that drew Jaron’s eyes first. She was dressed this time in a single red gown embroidered with golden threads, accentuating her statuesque figure. She wore no crown, but her raven black mane was styled above her head to look like a crown. Her feet were bare, and the hem of the gown ended just above her shin, exposing the porcelain skin. Lilith seemed to lounge on the throne, both arms spread to grip the armrests in a loose and relaxed grip. A smil
CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE: Dangerous Mission
Lilith kept the amusement from her face. The expression on the Cambion’s face was one to amuse. She’d expected it of course. What she’d suggested was one that had shocked even Inanna when she heard it first. Never mind a man who’d once trained under Wyvrill, and nearly lost his life in their legendary, but secret confrontation. She spared a glance at Inanna and nearly laughed aloud. The glare fixed on the Cambion should melt through metal. The throne bit into her back and she considered lying down on it. Then reconsidered. Her gown had a slit running up the sides of her legs. Any slight movement would see her thighs exposed, and this meeting at an end. If just the sight of her manifestation within the Domain had nearly killed the Cambion, she had no doubt a real glimpse at her exposed body would kill him. Tutting, she waited patiently. She seemed to do that a lot these past years. The seconds since her words seemed to stretch forever. Then the Cambion finally took hold of hims
CHAPTER TWENTY SIX: Body Forming Technique
“How can you call that trying, boy? At this rate you’ll never achieve anything!”Gilgal grimaced fiercely. But he still threw down that weight, walking towards the other. He couldn’t tell what angered him more, the man’s obnoxious words or the fact that it spoke directly into his mind, whatever he did to block it. He got into the proper stance to pick up the other weight, conscious of the stares that followed him. The other Purgers going through the special training with him, were all watching. And no wonder. The weight he’d been forced to drop was a barbell magically enhanced to weigh a shocking 600kg. It had been a shock when he started lifting that, and now he was aiming for one of the others. The weights had been brought out by the Masters to replace the 300kg weight that the Purgers had been using. The weight ranges of the new barbells were 600kg, 900kg, 1200kg and 1500kg. Nobody in the entire Order had managed to lift that last one, and now Gilgal was going to lift the seco
CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN: Mastering The Body
Gilgal stumbled, trying to take in everything at once. The noise was monstrous. The waves were roaring their defiance of the sky and hurling themselves against the rocks. This was a true Domain. Not the barrier – that he’d mistaken for a Domain – used by Master Windsor. The entire world was isolated here, obeying the laws of water. Rain fell from clear skies, dashing against the rocks, seas and his body. Streams ran down into the sea in an endless voyage, beginning from the ponds and lakes on the land. Master Wyvrill stood there. The other Masters were around also. But the old Master seemed to glow. There was a feel about him like he was inevitable. In this place, he was law. Gilgal knew this instinctively. His heart pounded. “Is this your Domain, Master Wyvrill?” he asked still, shouting to be heard over the waves. “Indeed, dear boy. It is still an incomplete Domain, but it’ll serve the purpose we need. Usually, a Purger would be at the 40% level or ab
CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT
Nur frowned at him, still waking up. Gilgal returned the frown. He had no exact idea of the time, but he’d wager it was just a few hours left until dawn. She must have come to see him, then dozed off on his bed as usual. She was still watching him with that bleary-eyed look, but he knew that wouldn’t last. True to the thought, a flash of indignation lit up in those brown eyes, followed quickly by a hot flash of anger.Wary, he backed up, considered putting on his shirt again, but relented. Now that the fabric was off his body, he had no desire to struggle into it again. Nur’s anger wasn’t worth getting his skin wet again. But then, he couldn’t just stand before her naked. The room was enclosed for that. “What are you doing here?” he asked to forestall whatever angry remark was on the tip of her tongue. Then moved quickly past her to snatch a dirty, but dry coat off the back of his chair. He shrugged into it, asking, “are you alright?”Nur shrugged, the frown turning mild. She
CHAPTER TWENTY NINE: Start Of Core Formation
The next day was just as difficult as he’d dreamed it would be. He found the time to teach the Purgers who sought the technique. The Masters did not stop him. They watched, and when he was done, they whisked him away again into Master Wyvrill’s Domain. That became his routine. Day after day. Week after week. The other Purgers began to show success in the technique, lifting even the 900kg barbell after three weeks. But he graduated to easily picking up the 1200kg barbell, and lifting the 1500kg barbell off the ground. Despite what Nur claimed, and what he believed, he became a source of inspiration to the Knights and Messengers. That routine never changed, and he was too tired every night to contemplate anything else. So, he had no notion of what was going on in his body until it confined him to the bed one morning. It was a morning, two months since he started training the Body Forming technique. It was Spring, though the weather and plants hadn’t caught on yet. He woke that da
CHAPTER THIRTY: Core Formation
Gilgal stood on a mountain peak. The entire world spread out before him. He could see the mountains in the distance, rolling up into the clouds and down into the plains. The forests stretched for miles and miles away from him, vanishing into the distant horizon. But at the foot of the mountain where he stood, was a town. He knew it was a town through the input of a foreign memory. That foreign memory also identified the town as Nenwick, a town in the kingdom of Riderna, sitting at the foot of Mount Grey. He could feel the ambient aura here very clearly; a battle had been fought here, and it was a very brutal one. The foreign memory agreed. The beings that they called Transcendents had fought here too. Nearly a millennia ago, as time was marked here. He could still see their signature, and if he tried, he’d see the entire battle played out again. But he hadn’t come here for the battle. Time was short for him to stay here, so he had to be fast.Spinning around, he stared at the b
CHAPTER THIRTY ONE: Danger
The core swirled within him like a contained thunderstorm. Tendrils of lightning continued to leak out of it, and each spin seemed to resonate with his own body. He was one with the core. The core was formed. His core had no barrier cutting it off from the world. Its only barrier was the lightning swirling within it, kept in its continuous motion through the balance of its centripetal and centrifugal force of movement. He could feel lightning in the ice Domain through the core, and he could feel his comprehension deepening. Now, he started weaving those escaping tendrils into vessels or channels for the energy of the core to travel through. The new vessels snaked through his entire body, connecting his original vessels to the core, and transforming his body. Energy was still in his original vessels, but it was no longer lightning. After what seemed like hours, he started to move the core. The memories from the breaking of the first seal did not need
CHAPTER THIRTY TWO: Battle At Snakehills — The Trial
“I swear by the gods that I’m innocent, Mr. Mayor! I’m no Slodoroon merchant!” the bound and accused merchant wailed for the umpteenth time, to be met with the jeers of the crowd. Yvaine stood with the crowd. She couldn’t claim the same amusement as the rest of the townsfolk, but it was amusing still to see what they considered justice. The merchant they’d gathered to see was a lean fellow by the name of Cade Calde. Up until that day, he’d been their neighbor, but the whisper of an accusation was all they needed to shun him. She knew very well how this wasn’t justice, but it served her purpose. She wouldn’t have interfered though, even if it didn’t serve her, so she certainly wouldn’t now. She simply watched. They were all standing in the town hall, with the accused standing on the box of the accused; chained to the pole. A wooden barrier separated the accused from the people, and the raised dais of the judge’s box. On that raised dais sat the Mayor, wearing a frown that co
CHAPTER THIRTY THREE: Battle At Snakehills — Carilliene Regina Immortalis
The voice was familiar. Yvaine knew it well. The entire town heard it. “Mother sent me instead, as she couldn’t get a promise from Inanna not to beat you senseless.” The voice continued, thundering with all the arrogance that only a Demon Princess could possess. Jaron winced, and Yvaine didn’t blame him. The cloud above the town continued to swirl, then suddenly exploded, releasing shockwaves far and wide. From the opening that had opened in the sky, ten women descended. That opening seemed to lead into nothingness behind them. The doors of the town hall flung open with a bang as the townsfolk rushed out, followed very closely by the mayor and the Purger Knight. Yvaine cursed foully. It was just like her sisters to act so arrogantly. Sure enough, the women dropped among Yvaine and Jaron, paying no mind to the townsfolk. All ten of them looked the same as each other, seemingly decuplets. But the woman at the vanguard had an older feel to her, and she was revered by the other n
