CHAPTER NINETEEN: Night Visitor
The winter had truly begun. It was three weeks since the martial hearing, and changes had taken place in the entire Order. The unofficial ranking was updated with Gilgal placed at the very top, just below the Masters. Knights and Messengers still in the Castle began their meditation again. The recent batch of squires began their exams, and the Masters restarted their special trainings.The potential Masters were all involved with the special trainings, and those Purgers who believed themselves ready for the challenge, joined them. Each of the five Masters decided how their own trainings would go, but all were designed to challenge even hardened Purgers. Master Wyvrill limited his training to theoretical study of magic. But this was in no way simple. The theories took enough comprehension to digest, and he asked questions randomly, assigning punishments for wrong answers. SCROLL FRAGMENT TEN My presence here seems to have done that which I hoped for. I have appeared to most of these humans in their time of greatest need, helping them fend off the demons, and they worship me for it! They have begun to call me a god, brothers! I mean to keep doing this, and soon the entirety of this layer will revere me as God! My word will be law! This way, we don’t have to worry about them growing arrogant or too powerful again to challenge our supremacy. This way we can see the fulfillment of part of the wish which led us to seek the core in the first place. The demons are the only problem I still have no solution for. They’ve always been powerful and stubborn beyond measure! The humans are still stubborn, but they’re gullible. This is not the case with the demons. They still have Transcendent Realm beings among them, and they have a longer memory. The centuries have not made them forget the world as it was before. They still believe they are of an equal footing
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: Demon Lord Lilith
Jaron was fast. The woman – Inanna Regina Immortalis, eldest and most powerful of the Demon Lord Lilith’s direct children – was unconcerned. The world rippled. CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: Answering Summons
Jaron Igarlan hit the ground with a grimace. He stumbled forward a few steps before quickly falling into a Gebo stance, steadying himself. His eyes needed to adjust – they were still blurry – so he didn’t bother with them. He flared his magical senses outwards instead. The Lower Aether was already working its enhancement on him. A range of 10km was made available to his senses, where 5km would have been a stretch back in the Middle Aether. Of course this range only offered a quick overview of the situation around him. Yvaine paused in her journaling with a frown. The groan had come again. The sound had accompanied her for three days now, and it was getting to the point where she could no longer stand it. Smudging the sharpened tip of her pencil on the page, she spun around in her stool to regard the men stirring awake on her bed. Calling it a bed was an overstatement. It was just a wooden platform padded full with heavy mattress. The room was a shabby little cube with a door and two windows to allow egress and ventilation. Those windows and doors had mostly stayed shut since she paid for the room three days ago. The room had only the table, stool and the bed as the only furniture available, and she’d promptly transformed the table and whatever space was left on the floors to a disheveled library.
