CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR: Battle At Snakehills — Found Out
Jaron Igarlan lounged on a cushion, with a book opened on his legs. The noise of the battle outside didn’t even cause a twitch of his eyebrows. He reached beside him to pick up a cup of wine, took a sip and returned his focus to the book. It was a fictional book about the adventures of Old Joe, the hunter. Old Joe had myriad adventures, and Jaron had read most earlier adventures back in the Castle and then in Poles. He didn’t think he’d find an edition he’d not read before, here in Snakehills. He’d fished it from the entrance of the Snakehills library ruins, and was reading it for the third time now.His attitude since the start of the battles infuriated the demons, but he didn’t care. He only came out a few times to play with either Master Wrenz or Jhanice, so the demons wouldn’t think him expendable. But aside from that, he was content to keep hidden and enjoy his time. With Wyvrill out there, he wouldn’t act rashly, even with his clone already prepared and ready back in Pole
CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE: Battle At Snakehills — Meeting Of Old And New
Gilgal frowned at the silhouette that appeared before him. It was a Cambion with horns cut off at the point. Bronze eyes were filled with excitement as it stared at Gilgal, and there was the undeniable rumblings of lightning within his body. The fellow had no visible weapons, but he didn’t need it.Gilgal could tell already that he was at the Solidified Realm, and his heart pounded. He’d not seen this Cambion before, but he felt like the fellow was very familiar. Very familiar and very powerful, with a purpose Gilgal didn’t know.He was immediately on guard, sword held and body prepared for Rhaido’s fury. His mind still buzzed from the Resonance spell, but his body hadn’t taken any damage. With his body in peak condition, he could match a Solidified Realm practitioner blow for blow. “Already on guard, young Knight?” the Cambion asked, amused. He stepped forward, and Gilgal exclaimed silently, escaping backwards. The Cambion’s hand appeared suddenly, clawing at where he’d been a
CHAPTER FIFTY SIX: Battle At Snakehills — Battle Of Old And New
Their first clash was all Gilgal needed to know that he was outclassed. Their physical strength was equal, but there was a familiarity and fluidity to will casting that experience and advancement level allowed the Cambion. His Rhaido’s fury was easily countered – stopped directly from unleashing any of its deadly momentum and speed. His Isa’s thrust was deflected easily and his bolts of lightning were nullified. In every aspect, the Cambion outclassed him. The years he’d spent training his mastery of the sword seemed inadequate before this opponent. His rapid advancement revealed their flaw in lack of experience, and his powerful body didn’t have the advantage for once. Barely a minute had gone by, and Gilgal was already grimacing fiercely with worry and panic. His sword was deflected again, and his stance was altered, buckling him. He spun with the buckle, blocking his undefended back immediately. The clang of steel on steel rang and arcs of lightning spread from the impact.
CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN: Battle At Snakehills — Master And Student
Yvaine waited until the Cambion was gone before she fled the room. She knew a chance like this wouldn’t come again. Both her sisters gone; Carilliene’s children fighting with the army. There was nobody to watch her. Her haste did not make her irrational. She arrived at the room she’d been given, stuffed a small bag with a change of clothes, some books and the temporary teleportation sigil. Then she walked calmly out of the building to the supplies tent at the back of the camp. There she found some guards stationed to keep watch over the items within. They were at the 48% and 50% respectively, so a little effort was needed to subdue them. No alarm was raised. She moved past them into the tent, and helped herself to a few rations. Then she was out and on her way, following the sense she’d not been able to ignore. Her path led around the entire battlefield to avoid discovery. The circuitous route made her journey longer, but Gilgal wasn’t going anywhere that she could sense. He wa
CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT: Battle At Snakehills — Revealed
“Bastard!” Jaron hopped away from the corpse of his former student. He didn’t even acknowledge the mad Wrenz. Escaping this field was the best option, and he didn’t dally. In a moment, Jhanice’s core would appear within her body, and the energy released from that collapse wasn’t something he wanted to withstand.“STAY for this old man!” Master Wrenz roared, his words becoming law.Jaron was startled as the world closed around him to keep him immobile. Then he frowned fiercely and resisted. The force around Jim dissipated, but it had already served its purpose. His glare took in Master Wrenz as the world exploded violently. His hastily formed shield did little to shield him, and not even his affinity with lightning was enough to absorb the entire impact. He was thrown far into the air, coughing up blood and leaving a trail of bloodied guts in the air. He fell. The world came to focus slowly, with the pain. His stomach was nearly hollowed out by the direct explosion, and his hea
CHAPTER FIFTY NINE: Battle At Snakehills — Meeting The Demon Princess Again
Gilgal couldn’t believe his eyes. He’d long suspected that the Demon Princess had something to do with this attack, but he’d never actually seen her to confirm or deny that assumption. Until now. And even now, he couldn’t be certain if she had a hand in it.The moment he whispered her name, like a prayer, she turned to face him. Those long black curls swirled with the motion to obscure part of her face. But the smooth skin of the face, the angular and mild curve of the chin, the large eyes and upturned lips were visible. Her eyes seemed to widen with shock for a moment, before it twinkled, and she winked at him.Startled, Gilgal blinked. He must have seen wrong, he explained too himself. The smile on that face must be to make him lower his guard. He had no certainty of what had caused that explosion, but he could feel the aura of Jhanice mixed in with the pulse of lightning. He had no knowledge of the fact that cores could explode, so there was no thought of Master Jhanice dying.
CHAPTER SIXTY: Battle At Snakehills — Wyvrill's Decisiveness
Wyvrill was very furious. Every attack was countered by his opponents, and they attacked as one organism, seeming in perfect sync. At this rate, he wouldn’t last the entire day before exhaustion claimed him. Blast. Block. Pierce. Nothing seemed to work. He couldn’t even establish his Domain before they contested with him and nullified it. If it was a one-on-one duel, he was sure that none of them would last more than an hour against him. Angry and frustrated, he disengaged from them again and stood, watching them. The air was like solid ground to him still, so his concentration wasn’t fading. But he was taxed. He had no idea what to do now. Being entangled by these demons the entire day would mean that his Knights would be annihilated without his aid. His beard flowed in the wind and he reached out to stop it. He was angry and needed a calm mind to contemplate. Slowly and absently, he began to stroke his beard, while his sword stopped trembling in his other hand. His eyes were
CHAPTER SIXTY ONE: Battle At Snakehills — Draekt's crisis
Two more seconds passed, and the Domain finally dissipated on its own. Inanna trembled, but she rushed out immediately to the body that fell from the sky. Her speed was faster than ever and she caught up immediately. She cradled the body of her sister and a scream tore through her chest. It was so primal that even the sky trembled. “No!”Draekt watched the two sisters with a frown, but his wary gaze didn’t leave Wyvrill. Wyvrill watched them with an expressionless face. “Wyvrill!” Inanna roared at the old Master, dropping Carilliene’s body gently on the ground. Her hands trembled and her swords appeared again, along with her Divine body. The clouds fled and the world trembled violently. Her eyes were blood red now, and the tyrannical aura of slaughter spread out from her. Wyvrill seemed unbothered. His Divine body didn’t appear, and he even stroked his beard as a smile split his face. This action and expression sent a tremor through Draekt’s heart, and he took a step back. Th
CHAPTER SIXTY TWO: Battle At Snakehills — Sovereign Marius Trevor
Marius Trevor had not escaped as he planned. He merely returned to Soulwood and his curiosity got the better of him. He’d returned, spreading his sense tentatively, and then confirmed his assumption that no Transcendent being had descended. He’d been hiding around the outskirts of the battlefield for four days, watching the entire fiasco. He had no desire to assist at all, just waiting for the right chance to search the buried libraries. None of the demons had detected him, and it wasn’t unusual at all. He excelled in concealing his aura, and unless a practitioner at the Transcendent Realm came, he could never be discovered when he made an effort to hide. And he was making an effort to hide now. Which was why it was very shocking to him when he received a message from Wyvrill still. The old Master had found his hiding place, and was also able to speak to him telepathically through his mental barriers. If the aura had been foreign, he would have fled already, thinking a Transcend
CHAPTER SIXTY THREE: Battle At Snakehills — The End
The world was trembling violently and cracks began to appear. On the earth below, the sky above and even the air in between. The world darkened as chaotic energy leaked out, destroying the little vegetation that their battle had left.Wyvrill was watching her warily, she noticed through her battle crazed haze. He wasn’t wary about her possible attack. No, far from it! Her attacks had been nothing but a nuisance to him as he could avoid all of them easily, but also couldn’t land a hit on her easily. No, his wariness was for the madness she was coming off from. She’d heard his words and the still rational part of her mind understood the urgency of the situation. But Slaughter was not a meek aspect to comprehend at all, never mind mastering. 2000+ years of comprehension had taught her that much. And besides, there was a chance she could still survive that explosion! But Yvaine wouldn’t, she knew. What happened to Yvaine was of little interest to her, but mother loved the spoiled child
