CHAPTER SIXTY FOUR: Soulwood Grove
Master Wyvrill returned to the battlefield in a rage. He was exhausted and seriously injured,, but he needed to vent his anger. The demon lieutenants and soldiers were is target, and he took an hour to wipe them all out. He couldn’t find Master Jhanice’s aura, confirming what he already deduced. But his anger was made worse when he heard the rumblings within the Order camp. He couldn’t find Gilgal’s aura either, and the things he heard made his beard twitch in more rage. Gilgal running away was understandable to him after his secret was made public, but escaping with a Demon was beyond what he could accept. It was Master Wrenz, and his own injuries that stopped him from setting out immediately. Marius had already taken his leave to disappear into the buried ruins of the original library. As Wyvrill healed, he was imagining many scenarios in his head about what would become of Gilgal when found. He couldn’t hide the truth from the Purgers anymore, but he still needed Gilgal! If
CHAPTER SIXTY FIVE: Feral Devils
Yvaine cried out in shock and anger as she hurled herself back, immediately activating her core to place a solid barrier of air between them. She couldn’t believe that he wouldn’t even give her the time to explain herself! “Don’t hinder me!” Gilgal barked at her as his sword cut easily through her barrier, and whistled just above her head. Yvaine’s heart pounded and she glared furiously at him. Only then did she notice that he wasn’t even looking at her, nor had his sword tracked an arc to cleave her head. His eyes were fierce and fixed behind her. Just then, her body fell back onto a warm and uneven surface. The structure – whatever it was – couldn’t hold her weight, and both of them crashed to the ground. She groaned in anger and rolled away quickly. Gilgal was already moving past her, and she heard another thud beside her. Her eyes fixed on what she’d crashed into, and a scream tore from her lips. Terrified, she scrambled backwards on her arms until she’d put enough dista
CHAPTER SIXTY SIX: Flee
Rational thought had long overshadowed sadness and madness. He’d always known that the feral devils wouldn’t be easy to deal with from the first encounter with them, and Yvaine’s words had reinforced that deduction. But he’d needed to vent his sadness and anger. He should have known better. He was running now, and they refused to let him go. He’d lost track of how many he’d killed, but they seemed endless. And worst of all, were the giant ones with bodies as strong as that of practitioners at the Solidified Realm! He’d met two of them at once, and if Yvaine hadn’t acted to distract one of them, he would have been mauled to death already. Their speed was beyond even him. They left afterimages that seemed too real. He almost believed that those afterimages would have the ability to deal him damage. His sword held up better than his body was doing at the moment. “I warned you, you dolt!” Yvaine complained for the umpteenth time as he dragged her along. Some hours ago he would ha
CHAPTER SIXTY SEVEN: Possible Companion
Gilgal lay on his back, left hand behind his head as a pillow, and right hand clutching the hilt of his sword to his chest. He seemed to be watching the overhead canopies, but his attention was all on the other occupant of his makeshift camp. Yvaine busied herself with setting up a more suitable sleeping spot. She’d pulled out ropes and a hammock from thin air and was failing badly at stringing it up after finding the suitable trees to hold them. Gilgal watched her work, and began to ponder. He’d see her act against the feral devils back then, and he’d given up all thoughts of killing her. He wouldn’t be able to. She wouldn’t be able to kill him either, but that was only half good. This meant that they were now forced partners who still didn’t trust each other. Tutting, he changed his train of thought to the Masters and his fellow Purgers. By now, his identity must have already been spread within the camp if they survived the demon assault that day. He believed that the Masters
CHAPTER SIXTY EIGHT: Calamity Arrives?
Nur arrived later at Soulwood grove, panting and sweating. Her mount had long given up for the pace she’d set. She’d left it on a patch of grass and continued on foot. When it recovered, it would find it’s way back. That was the night before. The Sun had barely come up today when she trudged into the Grove. The sudden silence and cold didn’t register to her senses immediately. She was so focused on spreading out her sense to notice. She’d long lost track of Gilgal and the Demon Princess, so she was only relying on the fact that they came this way. Now, she was hoping her sense would allow her to notice them. But that was a hard task, given that her sensory range was no better than a few kilometers. Advancing by a single percentage had made her very aware of her own lack. But just like before, advancements were extremely difficult. Not everyone was like Gilgal who advanced seemingly on a whim! The two days of chasing after him had given her time enough to contemplate. She want
CHAPTER SIXTY NINE: Return To Origin
Gilgal’s mind rumbled like thunder. The voice and the words struck his mind mercilessly, and he forced his head up finally. Floating in the sky above them was Master Wyvrill. His hair, beard and coat flew in the wind, but there was no wind in the forest. His eyes were filled with rage that was suppressed to the extreme in his tone. His gaze was burning holes at them, then he moved that gaze slightly to focus on Yvaine alone.“So there’s another of Lilith’s spawn here. After killing you, that’d make two. Let me see how the Dread mother would keep her calm after this!”Yvaine trembled violently. Not waiting for any reply or plea, Master Wyvrill moved. Even with Gilgal’s speed, he just saw him vanish, then he was beside Yvaine in the same instant. His hand moved to strike her midsection with enough force that the area around that seemingly ordinary blow seemed to ripple. Gilgal cried out to him to halt, even as Yvaine revealed a fierce expression, willing a solid shield of air to
CHAPTER SEVENTY: Hear My Command
Gilgal resisted fiercely. He tried. But everything here was water. The air was water, the land was water. The Sun was gone, and the sky with it. Only water existed here. Only water could exist here. Gilgal’s mind trembled violently. He’d never seen such a tyrannical spell before. Even his memories of the true laws of the world were beginning to feel like a dream; an abomination here. Nothing else could exist but water. His core spun madly within him, even as chaotic energy surged through his vessels, burning and stabbing at him. He roared. A spell that could overwrite reality to the point where the laws were changed entirely. And it didn’t even seem like an illusion. Even his own mind was affected! That sense of crisis had only continued to build until it took up his entire mind now, pulsing. Water surrounded him, and his limbs began to dissolve. He felt no pain, and even believed it was only right that they turn to water. It was law!Other practitioners at the Dominion Realm or
CHAPTER SEVENTY ONE: The Prince Take Your Ask
“Hear my command, chaotic lightning! Descend!”Just like back at the battlefield, his words were just to focus his will. And it was extremely necessary here as his mind and soul was being undone by Master Wyvrill’s spell. But unlike back then, he wasn’t relying only on the Resonance of his lightning core with the world. He was forcing his chaotic energy to pulse in rhythm with the spin of his lightning core, and it allowed a temporary fusion. This fusion released a very terrifying energy. The feral devils deeper in the Grove, felt this terrifying fluctuation to, and they shrank back in fear. Even Yvaine paused in fear, and Master Wyvrill grimaced seriously for the first time. Nur shrank back into the ground, terrified. Gilgal wasn’t affected adversely. Far above the canopies, a rift opened into boundless darkness and a lance of lightning descended. It was instantaneous. No sooner had the rift opened, than Master Wyvrill was struck savagely in the chest, and sent flying through
CHAPTER SEVENTY TWO: Prove Me Wrong
The words stopped Gilgal, just a few feet from Yvaine and the portal. He frowned at Master Wyvrill, but the old Master wasn’t looking at him. Nur froze where she stood with a grimace. She knew to whom the question had been meant, and she had wanted to avoid it. She swallowed heavily and tried to meet Master Wyvrill’s eyes. But it was very difficult.Prior to today, she would have had the confidence to look him in the eye, even when she was under trial. But that had changed. Knowing that the Masters were powerful because of the few spells they displayed, and the stories heard, was not the same as personally witnessing them fight. Back at the battlefield, she’d only seen flashes and felt the terrifying energy fluctuations in the sky. Here, she’d seen both Master Wyvrill and Gilgal display mastery of spells that would have unmade her in an instant. How could she raise her head to him easily? And yet, it had to be done. At this moment, she wouldn’t mind it if Gilgal stepped in to aid
SCROLL FRAGMENT
SCROLL FRAGMENT THIRTEEN Who can say exactly how old our world is? Who can say for a certainty who their ancestors were, and how they came into being? All we have are records left by our predecessors, and signs left on this world that tell the stories of times past. Fossils and unexplainable creations and supposedly natural formations. Most of the world have taken to explaining these things as signs of a Supreme being, who created us. There are other schools of thought; some that say it wasn’t just a Supreme being, but a multitude of them. Others believe that everything formed as a result of coincidence. You must know by now, which field I belong to. Coincidence is well and good, but it can only do so much; certainly not enough to create a reality as complex as this! And multiple Supreme beings, really? Why will a multitude of them dedicate their time to creating this reality only to leave it? And if they did create it, why is it that it is imperfect? A collective exists for the
