CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE: Aftermath And Descent
The Battle at Snakehills ended with the Human’s victory, which came at a great cost to the town of Snakehills, the Kingdom of Nialli, and the Order. For the first time in centuries, another Master of the Order had died. The armies of the other United Kingdoms arrived a week after this battle, to a field of death and destruction. No trace of the town of Snakehills was left, save for the hills themselves, which had been reshaped completely by the battle. The crack that had been torn in the barrier was long gone, but the effect it left seemed permanent.Worse of all, was the upheaval that happened days after the end of the battle, in Soulwood grove. The Grove had suddenly birthed dangerous monsters that flooded the vicinity of Snakehills, and even the outskirts of Nialli, and the Order. These beasts were resistant to magic, and conventional weapons, fast and capable of producing sound waves that shocked the soul. The calamity of the Banshees also did what nothing else had been able t
CHAPTER SEVENTY FOUR: Transcendent Banshee
Master Wyvrill was seething with rage as he opened his mouth to reply. How could he not understand everything they were doing? But without enough power, how could he resist? Even if he were to become a Transcendent today, he still wouldn’t be able to resist. The Celestials were using this method to humble him and the entire Order, to enforce their own supremacy. It was the same the first time, he knew that now. Back then it’d been Master Rodevak and Master Windsor. Today, it was him. They’d praised him very highly before the entire Order, and if he dared to accept such praise, then he was admitting that he was their equal, and that would bring a calamity upon his head. But to publicly announce his inferiority would destroy the pride of the Order, and stop their current momentum especially after a brutal battle. His mind churned, and the words left his lips. “You praise me very highly, Lord Rhaido,” Wyvrill answered with a slight smile. Omitting the title of ‘god’ was a subtle
CHAPTER SEVENTY FIVE: Rumblings
Mobilization was done very quickly within the Order. Master Amara and Master Hardy were in charge of this mission, leading 50 Purgers who were all past the second layer of the Body Forming Technique. Elsewhere within the United Kingdoms, mages at and above the Immanent Realm were mobilizing, and all were headed towards Soulwood grove. A reserve force was left behind to deter the actions of the Polian Empire.Meanwhile, less than two minutes after Eudora, Algiz and Rhaido vanished, the entire continent began to experience tremors. Practitioners at and above the Solidified Realm were able to better assess the reason for these tremors, and what they sensed, was enough to send shock deep within their souls. It was the three Celestials battling a very massive Banshee. They used no spells, but simply the power of their physical bodies. Majestic weapons were wielded with such power that it tore cracks in the world with each swing. The Banshee used it’s claws and teeth very savagely, mat
CHAPTER SEVENTY SIX: Captured
Nur was the first to regain consciousness, and take note of her situation. The first thing she noticed was the bonds that held her hands and legs, forcing her to a hunch inside a metal cage. She wasn’t alone. Beside her was also Yvaine, bound like she was and sleeping soundly. Twisting within the small confines, she looked around through the metal bars. Only trees were visible around her, although the immediate location of their cage was at the center of a clearing. The clearing didn’t seem new, and also bore signs of recent and continued occupation. The chests and sacks that were piled close to the lowered tents was enough testament of that. As was the still warm camp fire, with smoking stubs of firewood. But the major testament were the two fellows who stood a little ways away watching her. If the nature of the climate here hadn’t already told her that she was very far from home, then those people did in irrefutable fashion. The people were clearly demons, and their goat-like
CHAPTER SEVENTY SEVEN: Passive Absorption
“Don’t even bother with the thought, Purger,” Yvaine transmitted softly, and there was still amusement in the voice. “The Shikhar have no single use for humans but for sport. Selling me out will extend your time before the arena, if that. But about escaping this…there’s no chance of that”Nur grimaced. She didn’t bother to deny the accusation, and tutted instead. She had watched the two guards and knew that they were both at the Immanent Realm. She couldn’t take them down even if she somehow freed herself from the chains. The chains were designed to hold feral devils after all, so they would be able to hold a Manifestation Realm practitioner. Her Body Forming Technique hadn’t allowed her body to reach that level. “What do you want me to do then?” Nur asked.“You simply need to wait. That’s all. I want their entire party to return, and let’s see where we are, and in the meantime, I’ll heal my wounds. I suggest you also use this time to work on your advancement…apparently, the Lower
CHAPTER SEVENTY EIGHT: The Lower Aether Reacts
At about the same time that Yvaine, Gilgal and Nur arrived at the Lower Aether, in the Eastern continent, something monumental was happening in the Western continent. The news of the loss at Snakehills was already popular news in the countries of Eros and Gomara. Worse was the names of those who’d lost their lives there. Demon Lord Lilith had lost one of her Lilins, and nearly all the grandchildren born by that daughter. This was the first time since nearly 2500 years, that a daughter of Lilith has been killed. After all, these Lilins had special status within the Lower Aether. They weren’t just the children of Lilith, but also of the Prince! Even with the Prince missing for nearly 1,000 years, that didn’t change the fact that he fathered them. It didn’t change the fact that he was a Transcendent being that should never be crossed. He had nearly matched his parents, after all. And now, one of his daughters was dead. Killed by Wyvrill Wolf in the nameless continent! This informat
CHAPTER SEVENTY NINE: Cambion In A Lake
Back during his core formation, he’d forced his accumulated energy then to break open his first seal. It had been possible then because his advancement level at the time had already weakened the seal. After that, he’d noticed another seal, and estimated he’d only be able to break it open at the Emergent Realm. But now, he might not have a choice. The last time he broke open a seal, it had exhausted his magic level. If the same thing happened here, then he might escape this crisis. Even if he ended up being unable to break the seal, the excess energy would have still been used up in the process, and he’d be free. That was his thinking, anyway. He truly had no idea if the plan was sound, especially given that the seal had been placed by his father; a being he had no real concept of. Gritting his teeth mentally, he began to pool the chaotic energy, forcing them to gather in his head. Immediately, heat bloomed in his head and his scalp tingled, then seemed to explode. His mind rum
CHAPTER EIGHTY: Vision Of The Myriad Worlds
Gilgal naturally had no idea that the demons had fished him out if the lake and we’re transporting him back to their camp. Just like the last time, he’d focused his entire mind and senses within his body to combat the crisis. He’d lost count of how many attempts he’d made at he seal. At last, cracks had spread through it, and it showed signs of weakening. The chaotic energy in his body was less saturated now, and his lightning core had been raised to 59%. Essentially, the crisis was averted, but he was obsessed now. With the reserve of chaotic energy still within his body, he could raise his lightning affinity to 60%, but that would certainly use up the store. And it would force him to draw on his own converted energy to break open the seal, which he didn’t want to do.Aside from the fact that it’d would severely deplete his magic level in an unfamiliar world, he also wasn’t sure if it’d even work. Also, he wanted to know what was hidden by that seal. The first seal had unlocked
CHAPTER EIGHTY ONE: Forming The Chaotic Core
Gilgal’s mind rumbled. That very moment was when he saw the vision, and received all the information sealed by that seal. What he’d seen this time shook his mind like countless swords piercing through his soul. It was a concept he’d never even imagined. It all seemed to have happened momentarily now, but back in the vision, he’d been sure that he’d been that extremely powerful Primordial. He was sure that was his father, more than ever now, but he couldn’t even put a name to the being. When he’d heard the name that the Void beast called him, he’d nearly lost his grip on sanity then. Even now, his mind refused to remember anything related to that name, as though it was the very root of all the trauma he could ever experience in life. It was a name that he wasn’t qualified to hear or know. And forcing a remembrance of it would kill him. He was sure of it. Mind trembling, he tried to process all that the memory had given him. The feelings of being a Primordial was also something
CHAPTER EIGHTY TWO: Brought To The Camp
Gilgal focusing deeper into his own body, made sure that he had no concept of what happened to his body on the outside at all. It was a terrifying state he always found himself in, and if every advancement through chaotic energy happened in this way, then he’d need to find a safe place before ever attempting an advancement. The first time, he’d been fortunate enough to have the Purgers around him. This time, though, he was not that fortunate. His audience were burly Shikhars, with their horns and savage expressions. Expressions that now radiated excitement as they hauled him through the forest back to their camp. Gilgal was still in a coma then, when the hunting party finally made it back to their camp, and the sight of him immediately roused Nur from her own anxiety. Yvaine still played at being asleep as her senses scanned the rest of the hunting party, even before focusing on Gilgal. What she sensed didn’t put her in a calm state of mind at all. The leader of the hunters wa
