CHAPTER ONE: DISGRACED
The night my late father's will was read, was the night I knew I didn't belong to this family. ...I was just a tool used for building this empire......I knew I had to LEVEL UP.---KANE CREES VILLAAlex stood in the center of the Kane Crees Villa and forced his body not to shake. This was supposed to be a burial ceremony. It was supposed to be scared. Moody. Heavy with mourning for the dead great man, but Instead it felt like a party. Champagne glasses clinked against each other. Low music drifted through the halls. People were laughing, while some were smiling. It felt like a celebratory ceremony. Like something everyone had been waiting for, and they’d just been holding it in until now.Across the room, Elena, his stepsister, tossed her head back and laughed as she tapped glasses with one of her friends. The sound was sharp, and painful in bks ears, and it wasn't just her.Almost every person in the room had a glass in their hand. Wine, champagne, whiskey. Something expen
CHAPTER TWO : TOO LATE
"Leave me alone you scum!!"The words tore out of Alex as the two security men dragged him across the marble floor and threw him into the backyard. He hit the grass hard. Cold and wet. His black suit soaked through in seconds. The fabric clung to his skin and the dirt stained the knees. One of the men stepped forward. His face was stern, finger pointed at Alex like a weapon. "If you try to cause a commotion out there, we promise it will be two times worse than what Madam Victoria asked us to do," he said, voice low and angry.Alex stared up at him, stunned to the bone. Did they just drag him out of his father's house? Like he was nothing? And this was one of his father's loyal men. One of the men who used to nod at him in the halls and call him "young master." Why were they suddenly turning against him?He watched as they turned and walked away, leaving him there. Detached, and miserable. Sitting on the wet grass with his suit ruined.Something was happening. He could f
CHAPTER THREE: COMING FOR REVENGE.
"What the hell have you done!!"Alex continued to scream at the top of his voice as the security held him down. His arms were locked behind him and he was struggling with everything he had."You monster, you will never get away with this!!" he kept screaming. The few people still left around the grave exchanged glances and walked away, leaving him to his misery."You won't get away with this. I promise!!"His voice cracked. His suit was stained and wet from the grass. His eyes were red.Victoria ignored him totally. She shook hands with the so-called Mr. Riggs like they had just closed a business deal. Then she finally turned to look at Alex. She smacked her lips and rolled her eyes like she was exhausted by his presence. "Let him go," she said, flicking her hand. The security let go of him. Alex's body jolted forward and he rushed toward her to attack. He stopped at the last second. His hands were in the air. Then he balled them into fists. His whole body was shaking with agony.
CHAPTER FOUR: GRACE TO GRASS
After he left the gates of the villa with nothing but the sound of his own voice echoing behind him, Alex got straight into his car and drove away from the place that had once been his home and into the cold night with a heavy heart. As he drove through the empty streets, the streetlights passed over him in quick flashes, and with each passing light, more thoughts crowded into his head until he could barely breathe through the weight of them. He already knew, deep down, that things were not going to be easy for him anymore, and he already knew that from this moment forward, his life would never remain the same again because Victoria had made it clear that she intended to silence him completely. He could not afford to wait for her to make the first move against him, because if he did, then there would be nothing left of him to fight with. He had to start now, but the question that kept running through his mind was how, because how was he supposed to conquer a woman who now had every
CHAPTER FIVE: LOST IN THE WILD.
He was still on the dirty floor with his back against the gate, when he suddenly heard movement behind him, like the sound of footsteps from about four people walking toward him in unison. He quickly got up to his feet with his heart pounding, and when he turned around, to his greatest surprise, it was Elena, his stepsister, being escorted by three of the security men. His late father’s loyal security. His palms turned white as he gripped the iron bars of the gate with all the strength he had left. “You leeches,” he said through gritted teeth, his voice shaking with anger and disbelief. Elena kept a small, practiced smile on her face as she approached, stopping just inches away from him with the gate being the only thing standing between them. For a long moment they stared at each other, neither of them willing to look away first. “So it’s you who has been making so much noise here, isn’t it?” she asked, holding the hem of her dress in a stylish manner as though she had not
CHAPTER SIX: CIRCUIT.
Alex was woken up by a loud knock on the windshield that pulled him out of a deep, restless sleep. He wiped the sweat from his face with trembling hands, and only then did he realize that he had actually slept off in the car. But there was a bigger problem. Who was knocking on the windshield at this time? It was already dead night in the middle of a forest, so who in their right mind could possibly be out here. He adjusted his eyes through the darkness, and that was when he saw figures standing outside the car. Then one of them leaned forward and knocked on the windshield again, harder this time. “What the fuck is happening again?” Alex muttered, his voice shaking with fear. Of course these people couldn’t be cops. They were definitely mobs, or robbers. He watched as another person knocked on the window and shouted at him to open up. “Pull this shit down,” one of them said through a mask. Alex knew instantly that he was in serious danger, so he tried to start the engine
CHAPTER 7: BLOODIER & SCARIER
“Blood for blood?” Alex asked, his face drained of all color. Karina didn’t say anything. She only nodded once, then leaned forward until her face was inches from his. Her voice was smooth, but firm. “You can’t?” Alex looked confused and couldn’t even make up a word. “I—” “Then there’s no way you’ll survive out there, Alexander,” she replied as she leaned away from him. “Your enemies will come for you. And there’s nothing you’ll be able to do about it. You’ll fail. As usual.” She said it like everything she was saying made perfect sense in his ears. Alex couldn’t form a word, but he knew these people already knew what he had been through. And they were offering help. But it was in some kind of gruesome way. “Who’s this Giff?” Alex asked, staring deep into her eyes. “Someone that will help you,” she stated. Almost immediately, the door opened. A man in a clean tailored suit stepped in. Probably in his early forties. Tall, with bob curl hair. Beside him was another subtle
CHAPTER SEVEN: THE CIRCUIT
Alex couldn’t breathe. The cheers were too loud. The smell of blood and gunpowder was stuck in his throat. His hands were shaking so bad he had to press them into the dirty ground just to feel something solid. “Welcome to the circuit, Alexander.” Giff’s voice was calm. Too, too calm like he was welcoming Alex to a birthday party, not a slaughterhouse. Alex stared up at him. “What the hell is this?” he managed to say, his voice cracking. “This?” Giff gestured to the pit with his cigarette. Ash fell onto the dirt. “This is where men like you come to be reborn. Or die trying.” Below them, the man with the gun collapsed. While tow new people jumped on him instantly. No one pulled them off. The crowd roared louder. Someone threw a bottle into the pit and it shattered over the bodies. Alex scrambled to his feet. “We have to stop this. People are dying down there!” Giff turned to him slowly. The smirk was gone now. His brown eyes were empty. “And who’s going to stop it? The
CHAPTER NINE: ACCOMPLICE
Victoria lounged at the edge of the huge swimming pool, her bare feet dipping into the cool water every few seconds just to feel something. A wine glass sat in one hand and half an empty bottle of red sat sweating on the stone beside her. She was sunbathing, or at least pretending to. Truth was, she couldn't sit still even when she tried to look like she was living the best moment of her life. Her silk robe was loose around her shoulders and her sunglasses hid her eyes, but her jaw kept tightening. “Have you heard anything about that brat?” she asked, not even turning her head. She knew he was there. He was always there. Behind her, in the shade of the big umbrella, stood David. Her assistant. Her fixer. Her accomplice. He adjusted his glasses once, slow, like he always did when he was choosing his words. “No, ma'am,” he said, voice flat and careful. “The last time he was seen was two days ago. He was trying to escape the cops.” Victoria sucked her teeth and the sound was shar
