The hospital corridor smelled of antiseptic, but Ethan Wade barely noticed. He had been driving too fast ever since the doctor’s call came less than an hour ago, his voice grave. “Come to the hospital immediately.” Ethan had asked what happened, but the doctor had refused to explain over the phone. Now, Ethan stood outside the emergency room, his chest rising and falling heavily as he stared at the closed doors. Jenny was inside—his wife, the woman he had loved for most of his life, his childhood sweetheart and the girl he had once promised to protect for the rest of his life. His hands trembled… something was wrong. The doors finally opened, and a doctor stepped out. “Mr. Wade?” Ethan immediately approached him. “Yes. How is Jenny?” The doctor hesitated. That hesitation made Ethan’s heart sink. “Is Jenny okay?” “She’s alive.” Ethan froze. The doctor lowered his eyes. “But…” Ethan’s voice became strained. “But what?” The doctor took a breath. “I’m so

Jenny stared at Ethan. She had never seen him look at her like that. There was no anger in his eyes anymore, no pleading, no warmth. Only a cold, unbearable emptiness.“Ethan…”He turned away from her.Jenny’s heart tightened. “What are you doing?”Ethan didn’t answer. He walked toward the door.“Ethan!”He stopped.Jenny pushed herself upright despite the weakness in her body. “You can’t just walk away after saying all those things!”Ethan slowly turned around.Jenny’s eyes were red. “You’re blaming me for everything as if I wanted this to happen!”“You chose to give your blood to David.”“I told you why!”“And our child died.”Jenny’s face twisted with disbelief. “So what was I supposed to do? Let David die?”Ethan stared at her.“You were sixteen weeks pregnant.”“I didn’t know donating blood would cause this!”“The doctor said there were risks.”Jenny froze.Ethan’s jaw tightened. “He told you, didn’t he?”She looked away. That tiny movement was enough.Ethan’s heart sank even fur

For a long moment, neither of them spoke. Ethan simply looked at her, and as he did, an overwhelming sense of disappointment settled over him. They had been married for years. For five years, they had desperately tried to have a child. Five years of hospital visits, examinations, medications, hope, disappointment, and countless nights when Jenny had cried in his arms because another attempt had failed.Ethan had never stopped hoping, neither had their family.Everyone had been waiting. Everyone had been looking forward to the arrival of this child. And Jenny had finally become pregnant. Sixteen weeks of carrying the child they had waited five years for.Yet she had chosen to risk everything for David. A man who was, essentially, a stranger to their marriage.Ethan slowly exhaled.“I’m disappointed in you, Jenny.”Jenny’s eyes immediately filled with tears.“Disappointed?”“Yes.”She stared at him incredulously. “You’re making me sound like some kind of monster.”Ethan said nothing.Je

For a moment, she could only stare at Ethan, then her pride took over. She wiped away her tears and lifted her chin, forcing a cold smile onto her face.“Fine.”Ethan paused.Jenny’s voice became defiant. “If you want a divorce, then let’s get divorced.”She swallowed her pain and continued, “You think I’ll beg you to stay? I won’t.”Ethan said nothing.Jenny clenched her fists beneath the blanket.“Perhaps this is for the best,” she said coldly. “At least after the divorce, I’ll finally be free to marry David.”Ethan’s expression remained unchanged.Jenny forced herself to smile. “He saved my life. I’ve owed him for years.”Her eyes flickered toward David. “Maybe marrying him is the best way to repay that debt.”Ethan stared at her for several seconds, then he simply nodded.“Then I wish you both happiness.”Deep down, Jenny was desperate for Ethan to stop her. She wanted him to beg.To tell her he still loved her. To say he couldn’t live without her. But Ethan remained completely in

Jenny’s face changed instantly. For a moment, she simply stared at Ethan as if she had misheard him. Then anger exploded across her features.“You’re lying!”Ethan stopped.Jenny’s breathing became ragged, her eyes burning with fury.“You’re actually lying to me just to make me feel guilty!”“How despicable can you be, Ethan?” she shouted. “You know exactly what happened back then!”Ethan slowly turned around.Jenny’s tears were still falling, but there was no sadness in her eyes anymore.Only anger.“It was David who found out where his father was keeping me!” she said. “It was David who risked everything to expose his own father so the police could rescue me!”Her voice trembled with conviction.“You weren’t there!”Ethan stared at her silently.“You expect me to believe that you were the one who saved me?” Jenny continued bitterly. “After all these years, you suddenly decide to rewrite the past because you want me to feel guilty?”“I’m not rewriting anything.”“Yes, you are!”Jenny

Ethan walked out of the hospital without looking back. The automatic doors slid shut behind him, separating him from the room where he had spent the last few hours watching his marriage collapse before his eyes.He didn’t know what he was supposed to feel anymore. Anger, grief, betrayal—everything had become tangled together until he could no longer distinguish one emotion from another. Finally, Ethan pulled out his phone. There was only one person he wanted to call.Natalie Watson had been his university classmate, and their families had remained acquainted over the years. Her family owned a renowned law firm, one of the most respected in the city, where Natalie currently practiced as an attorney. If there was anyone Ethan could trust to handle his divorce discreetly and efficiently, it was her.He found her number and pressed it. The call connected after only two rings, and a sultry female voice came through the speaker.“Ethan?”The moment she heard his voice, Natalie immediately

The question remained suspended in Ethan’s mind, refusing to disappear. He tried to think, tried to remember every moment from the past sixteen weeks. Every time Jenny had avoided his questions. Every time she had left the house. Every time she had rushed to David’s side. But his thoughts had become increasingly sluggish, and the room seemed to tilt around him. Ethan blinked several times, trying to steady his vision, but the ceiling above him suddenly blurred. He reached for the edge of the sofa, desperately trying to keep himself upright, but his fingers slipped. “Damn…” His voice was barely audible. The crushing weight of the day finally became too much… the grief, the betrayal, the divorce, and the child he had lost before he had even known he existed. And the unbearable question of whether the woman he had loved for most of his life had ever truly been faithful to him. His breathing became uneven as he tried to stand, but his legs suddenly felt weak. The room spun viole

“Hello?” The woman’s voice came through the phone again. Jenny froze. Her face, already pale from the events of the day, instantly turned thunderous. She didn’t speak. For several seconds, she simply stood there, staring at the phone pressed against her ear. “Can you hear me?” Jenny’s fingers tightened around the phone, the woman’s voice was soft and unfamiliar. Yet she was answering Ethan’s phone at this hour. Jenny’s lips parted slightly, and her heart sank. “Hello?” Natalie tried again. “Who is this?” Jenny remained completely silent, her mind suddenly going blank. Then, all at once, countless thoughts crashed into her head. Ethan hadn’t come home. He hadn’t answered her calls. And now, another woman was holding his phone—a woman who sounded completely comfortable answering it. Jenny’s eyes slowly reddened. “Um…” Natalie hesitated on the other end. “If you’re looking for Ethan, he’s—” Click. Jenny ended the call and stood motionless, her hand slowly dr

Jenny’s chest tightened as she stared at the phone in her hand. The image of another woman answering Ethan’s phone kept replaying in her mind, making her blood boil. She couldn’t sit there anymore, so she stood abruptly.“If you think I’m going to sit here and cry over you, Ethan, you’re wrong.”She grabbed her handbag from the sofa and stormed toward the door, her anger growing with every step.“If you want another woman, then at least have the courage to admit it to my face.”Jenny yanked the door open and marched outside. Her mind was racing. Ethan hadn’t come home, he had ignored every call, and now another woman had answered his phone. There was only one explanation.“He must be with her.”Jenny clenched her jaw as she walked toward her car, her thoughts immediately turning darker.“A hotel…” she muttered bitterly. “He must be at a hotel.”She unlocked the car and got inside, her fingers tightening around her handbag.“If I catch you, Ethan, I swear…”She slammed the door shut an

Jenny stood frozen, unable to say anything for several seconds. Then her eyes shifted toward Ethan. At that exact moment, his fingers moved beneath the blanket.Natalie noticed.“Ethan?”His brows furrowed, and a moment later, his eyes slowly opened. He stared blankly at the ceiling, his breathing uneven as he tried to make sense of his surroundings. The bright hospital lights made him squint.“Where…” His voice was weak.Natalie immediately moved closer. “Ethan, you’re in the hospital.”He slowly turned his head toward her.“Natalie?”“Yes. I’m here.”His eyes wandered around the room before finally landing on Jenny. The moment he saw her, the confusion on his face disappeared, replaced by a cold expression.“Jenny…”Jenny’s lips trembled.“You’re awake.”Ethan didn’t answer. He simply stared at her, his expression unreadable.Natalie glanced between them before speaking. “Ethan, she just arrived.”His eyebrows tightened.“What happened?”“You were unconscious,” Natalie explained. “Y
