CHAPTER 39 — A NIGHT OF SURPRISES
“Cheers!” Lirielle said as she and Adrian clinked their glass cups together. She then gulped down the entire beer and wiped her mouth.Adrian took a gulp before dropping his cup on the table. It was late into the night, and both of them were at a Korean barbecue restaurant.A small gas grill was built into the center of their table, and the restaurant served thinly sliced beef, pork, and other meats. Adrian placed the pieces directly on the hot grill using tongs. This was a first-time experience for him, as he didn't even know a place like this existed in Ashvale. He watched in amusement as the meat cooked in minutes, while Lirielle instructed him to turn it over until it was cooked to his liking. He had to try different methods before he finally found the perfect timing for how he liked his meat. He then dipped it in a sauce before sending it into his mouth.“This is fucking amazing!” Adrian said as he chewed the meat, rested his back against his chair, and looked up at the ceiling.
CHAPTER 40 — THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE
“This place is our mission, and everybody in this restaurant is a fucking vampire!”Lirielle's voice echoed throughout the restaurant as she stood on the table, pointing at Adrian with one hand while the other held her empty glass. For a few seconds, everybody just watched her, and Adrian acknowledged that she was drunk. However, he immediately started looking at the faces of the people around him, and that was when it hit him.A man sitting at the next table slowly turned his head toward her as his eyes glowed red.Another customer revealed his fangs, followed by the woman sitting beside him.All around the restaurant, the vampires began revealing their true appearances. Their eyes glowed red, their fangs extended, and sharp claws emerged from their fingers. The cheerful atmosphere disappeared in an instant, and Adrian immediately reached for his gun.“Holy shit!” he said as he looked around, counting the vampires as quickly as possible. However, he stopped halfway because there were
Chapter 41 — A DIFFERENT PAIR OF EYES.
Lirielle's POV“Cheers!” Lirielle said as she clinked her glass against Adrian's before tilting her head back and gulping down the entire beer. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, then reached for another drink.Across from her, Adrian took a more modest gulp before setting his glass down. Not bad, Adrian, she thought to herself. At least he knows how to enjoy a night out. They were sitting in a Korean barbecue restaurant late at night, surrounded by the sounds of conversations, laughter, clinking glasses, and music from a live band.A small gas grill sat in the center of their table, where thinly sliced beef, pork, and other meats cooked over the low flames.Lirielle watched Adrian carefully place another piece of beef on the grill with his tongs. He had looked genuinely surprised when they entered the restaurant. Apparently, he hadn't even known a place like this existed in Ashvale. She found that amusing. For someone who spent his days fighting vampires and worrying abou
CHAPTER 42 — A DIFFERENT PAIR OF EYES
Lirielle’s POV“This place is our mission, and everybody in this restaurant is a fucking vampire!”I stood on the table, pointing at Adrian with one hand while holding my empty glass in the other. For a few seconds, the entire restaurant fell silent as he stared at me as though he had finally realized his senior had lost her mind.Well, the Korean barbecue had been excellent, and Adrian had turned out to be surprisingly entertaining company, but we had a mission to complete.A man sitting at the next table slowly turned his head toward me, his eyes glowing red. Another customer revealed his fangs, followed by the woman sitting beside him. Within seconds, the entire restaurant changed.Red eyes gleamed beneath the lights, fangs extended, and sharp claws emerged from fingers that had been holding chopsticks moments earlier.“Holy shit!” Adrian muttered as he reached for his gun.He began counting the vampires but stopped halfway through.“Lost count already? And we haven't even reached
CHAPTER 43 — A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT TO GET INJURED
CHAPTER 43 — A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT TO GET INJUREDThe first thing Adrian saw when he opened his eyes was the night sky. He took a moment to stare at the multiple glowing stars high in the sky.The second thing he noticed was the pain. His entire body ached, and even the simple act of breathing felt slightly uncomfortable. He tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through his side, forcing him to lie back down.“Fuck…”He stared at the sky, waiting for the pain to settle. He looked down at his body and soon noticed that he wasn't bleeding at all.The System had healed him once again, preventing him from dying of blood loss.“Why did I even pass out in the first place?” Adrian asked himself. Was it because he was exhausted from his fight against those vampires? Was it because he had been beaten, injured, and lost too much blood? He couldn't seem to find the right answer and soon scrapped the thought. He was alive, and that was all that mattered. Then he noticed someone lying beside him. Gol
CHAPTER 44 — THE LADY'S NIGHT OUT
She walked into the bar, and the sensation of bright lights and sounds hit her all at once.Loud music boomed from the speakers, and colourful lights illuminated the crowded room filled with people. She was wearing a face cap, a jacket, trousers, and sneakers for comfortable walking as she entered and approached the bartender. She walked to the seat in front of her and sat down, holding her nose to avoid the smell of alcohol and cigarettes. People were everywhere, on the dance floor, at tables, and on chairs, laughing, drinking, and having the time of their lives. She was sitting at the long bar counter where the bartender usually mixed drinks and slid them across to customers.“Good evening, ma'am. What can I get for you?” the bartender asked as he approached her.“I'm in the mood for something new, so I'm going to ask for your recommendation. Surprise me,” she replied, and the bartender smiled.“I'll do as you've requested,” he said and walked away. She watched the bartender mix mul
CHAPTER 45 — A GOODBYE WITHOUT WARNING
“Zack, if you put your feet on that seat one more time, I promise I'll throw you out of this bus!” Adrian's voice rang through the bus, drawing laughter from several students.“Sir, we're not even moving that fast!” Zack protested from the back.“Do you want me to demonstrate how fast you can fly out of a moving vehicle?” Adrian asked, and the entire bus erupted into laughter.“Sir, please don't kill him before we reach our destination,” Kellan said from the seat beside Adrian.“I haven't had breakfast yet, and watching a murder would ruin my appetite.”“Why are you even here?” Adrian asked as he turned to stare at him.“Because I'm a dedicated teacher who loves his students. Plus, there's no way I'll miss out on something as big as this.”Adrian shook his head after hearing Kellan's answer. Sometimes, he wondered how Kellan had managed to keep his job.The bus continued along the road, carrying the students and their three supervising teachers towards Cambodia's famous Angkor archaeo
CHAPTER 46: A DANGEROUS SECRET
The bus rumbled along the road as it made its way back to Ashvale. It was already past midday, and the excitement of the excursion had gradually faded into exhaustion. Some students had fallen asleep against the windows, while others were busy playing games on their phones, sharing snacks, or arguing over something that would probably seem unimportant by the next morning.A few students had gathered toward the back of the bus, laughing loudly enough to disturb anyone attempting to sleep.Funny enough, none of the teachers bothered to stop them. After spending hours supervising teenagers at Angkor Wat, they had more than earned the right to enjoy a peaceful ride home.At the front of the bus, Joanne sat beside the driver, chatting with him about something Adrian couldn't hear. She appeared perfectly relaxed, as though she hadn't just delivered a warning that had turned his world upside down. One of your students is a vampire. He heard her voice again in his head as he replayed that con
CHAPTER 47: AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR
Adrian had barely reached his house when he noticed someone standing in front of it. The person wore a dark hooded jacket, with the hood pulled low enough to conceal their face. Their posture was slightly hunched, and one arm was wrapped in bandages and supported against their neck. Adrian slowed his steps as he didn't recognize the person. Considering the fact that the stranger had chosen to stand directly in front of his house, he wasn't particularly pleased about the situation. He glanced around the street, but nobody else was nearby. Adrian adjusted the strap of his bag and cautiously approached the stranger. "Excuse me?" he called out, but there was no response. "Can I help you with something?" He stopped a few steps away, but still got no response. "Hey, I'm talking to you." Adrian frowned as the stranger remained motionless. For a moment, Adrian considered simply walking past them and entering his house. However, the person's strange behavior made him hesitate
CHAPTER 48: A NIGHT OF EASY SLAUGHTER
The abandoned factory stood on the outskirts of Ashvale, surrounded by rusted fences and overgrown vegetation.Several broken windows lined its walls, and the enormous metal doors at the entrance were partially open. From the outside, the building looked like an ordinary abandoned facility, but unfortunately, it was anything but ordinary.Adrian stood beside Lirielle, examining the building while holding the new silver dagger she had given him."So, this is the place?" he asked."Yep.""Come on. Let's get this over with. I've got better things to do than stand outside a dirty factory," Lirielle said as she led the way.The moment they stepped through the entrance, Lirielle suddenly cupped her hands around her mouth."HEY, YOU BLOOD-SUCKING BASTARDS!"Her voice echoed throughout the enormous facility, gaining the attention of everyone inside."BLACK CROSS AGENTS ARE HERE! EVERY VAMPIRE IN THIS BUILDING IS ABOUT TO DIE!""...Do you always announce yourself before a fight?" Adrian asked,
