The Server Room
The cold iron grate creaked as Raka pushed it aside, his boots finding purchase on the slick, black marble of the cathedral floor. Above him, the architecture defied every law of the kingdom he had been summoned to. The pillars weren't stone; they were colossal bundles of fiber-optic cables, encased in translucent, pulsing glass that hummed with a low-frequency, bass-heavy thrum."This isn't a throne room," Sofia whispered, her voice layered with that unsettling, metallic reverb. She tapped her temple, her blue-eyed gaze scanning the rafters. "It’s a cooling vent. The entire palace is a massive heat sink.""Keep your head down," Raka muttered, gesturing for Marcus and the others to hug the shadow of a massive cable-pillar. "If those Seekers look this way, we’re done for.""I can't believe it," Marcus muttered, his hand tracing the cold, smooth glass of a conduit. "We’ve been living in a server rack. The entire time.""It makes sense, though," Sofia said, her eyes flicking across the r

The CEO's Offer
The void wasn’t empty; it was a deafening, static-filled roar. Raka felt his lungs scream for air that didn't exist. Then, with a sickening jolt, reality slammed back into him. He was no longer falling. He was kneeling on a surface that felt like polished, cold obsidian. He gasped, his hands clutching his chest, his eyes snapping open.He wasn't in the cathedral anymore. The towering white pillar was gone, replaced by an infinite, dark expanse that stretched beyond the horizon. Above him, a sky filled with flickering code hung like a heavy tapestry."Breathe, Raka. You aren't dead."The voice didn't come from the air; it vibrated in his very marrow. Raka scrambled backward, his boots sliding against the slick, black floor. Standing a few yards away was a man. He wore a suit that was sharper, cleaner, and more expensive than anything Raka had ever seen in the city of Aethelgard. His skin looked perfectly moisturized, his hair was graying at the temples with deliberate, regal precision,

The Great Error
The white noise in Raka’s head didn't fade; it shattered. One moment, he was staring into the cold, corporate eyes of Thorne in a void of pure logic, and the next, his back slammed against the cold, vibrating obsidian of the Cathedral floor. His lungs flared, drawing in air that tasted like ozone and scorched copper."Raka! Oh my god, Raka, talk to me!"Sofia was over him in an instant, her glowing blue eyes wide with a terrifying, digital intensity. The binary code in her irises was scrolling so fast it was almost a solid blur of light. She grabbed his shoulders, her grip tight enough to bruise."I’m... I’m here," Raka wheezed, clutching his chest. He felt like his heart had been restarted with a car battery. "Did it... did it work?""Did what work? You went catatonic the second you touched the pillar!" Sofia shouted over the rising, rhythmic thrum of the Server Room. "The Seekers were closing in, and then you just... you started glowing. Not like magic, Raka. Like a hardware error."

The Outcast's March
The stone lion beneath Raka’s boots groaned, a sound like grinding teeth, as it continued its slow, inexorable descent into the shifting bedrock of the palace courtyard. Around them, Aethelgard was no longer a city; it was a digital graveyard caught in a feedback loop."Raka, watch your footing!" Sofia yelled, her voice straining as she pulled him away from the edge of a rapidly widening fissure. "The terrain is shifting! The rendering logic is completely fried!"Raka looked back. The path they had just walked was being overwritten by a gray, featureless void. "I see it! Just keep moving toward the western gate. If we can reach the aqueduct’s exit, we’ll be outside the city’s primary boundary. The instability might be localized."Marcus, carrying the heavy database drive as if it were a holy relic, stumbled as the ground beneath him fractured into a thousand jagged, black polygons. "Raka, look behind us! The royal guards! They aren't running anymore!"Raka whipped his head around. A d

The Binary Prophecy
The air inside the elder’s low-roofed hut was thick with the scent of dried sage and something metallic—the unmistakable ozone tang of old-world hardware. The elder, whose name was Silas, stepped away from the flickering hearth and moved toward a wooden chest tucked behind a loom."You speak of the harvest as if it’s a new curse, Raka," Silas said, his voice raspy. "But there were others. Long before your time, before the current King was even a line of buggy script.""Others?" Raka asked, his eyes following Silas. "You mean other students?""Not students," Silas corrected, heaving the chest open. "Commanders. The ones the system didn't categorize as livestock. The ones it categorized as 'Exceptions'."Silas pulled out a heavy, wrapped bundle of oil-cloth. He set it on the rough-hewn table, unwrapping it with careful, calloused fingers. Underneath lay a device. It wasn't the ornate, runic tech of Aethelgard. It was a tablet computer—sleek, black, and covered in a layer of fine, silver
