Ch-1 the son who came back
Ryan had died once.At least, he was pretty sure he had. There weren’t many other explanations for falling asleep in a cheap apartment after working fourteen hours straight and waking up as a seventeen-year-old boy bleeding beside an unfamiliar highway. That had been three years ago. Now, at twenty, Ryan stood in front of a pair of massive black gates and stared at the mansion beyond them.He had imagined many endings for his second life. This wasn’t one of them.“Mr. Harrington and his family are waiting inside, Young Master.”Ryan glanced at the middle-aged man standing beside him.Young Master. He still wasn’t used to that.Three days ago, he had been Ryan Cole, a young man living alone and trying to figure out why he had been thrown into a world that felt strangely familiar. Then two men in expensive suits had appeared at his workplace. There had been DNA tests.Questions.More tests. And finally, an answer.Ryan wasn’t Ryan Cole.Or at least, this body hadn’t been born with that
Ch-2 empty suitcase
For the first time since Ryan had entered the Harrington mansion, Ethan’s perfect expression cracked.Only for a second. But Ryan saw it.“Open my suitcase?”Ethan looked at Richard as if he hadn’t understood him correctly.Richard remained seated at the head of the table.“Yes.”Silence filled the dining room.Catherine said nothing.Neither did Victoria, Sophia, or Emma.Every pair of eyes rested on the black suitcase beside Ethan.Ryan looked between them. Why is everyone suddenly interested in his luggage?Five people heard him.Nobody reacted. At least, they tried not to.Ethan gave a small, confused laugh.“Dad, why would you want me to open it?”Richard picked up his glass.“You said you’ve packed your things.”“I have.”“So open it.”Ethan’s fingers tightened around the handle.Ryan leaned back. This was getting interesting. This definitely didn’t happen in the novel. He remembered the original scene now—or pieces of it.Ethan had announced he was leaving.Catherine had cried.
Ch-3 necklace that wasn't stolen
By seven in the evening, Ryan had learned three things about the Harrington family.First, they took the word dinner far too seriously.Second, rich relatives could apparently smell inheritance from miles away. And third—Someone kept following him.Ryan stopped in the second-floor hallway. The footsteps behind him stopped too.He turned.Emma stood six feet away. She smiled.“Hi.”Ryan stared at her.“Why are you following me?”“I’m not.”“You’ve been behind me for ten minutes.”“I live here.”“You followed me into the library.”“I read.”“You picked up a book upside down.”Emma looked down at the book in her hand.It was, in fact, upside down. She calmly turned it around.“Experimental reading.”Ryan stared at her.Is she always like this?Emma’s mouth twitched.“Yes.”Ryan froze.“What?”Emma’s eyes widened.“I mean—yes, I read.”“You just said—”“Dinner!”She suddenly pointed downstairs.“People are arriving.”Then she ran.Ryan watched her disappear around the corner.Weird.Very
Ch-4 The Story Has Changed
For several seconds, nobody spoke. The security chief’s words seemed to remain suspended in Ryan’s bedroom.“In Young Master Ethan’s room.”Ryan looked at Ethan.Ethan looked genuinely stunned. Not embarrassed. Not irritated.Stunned.Catherine’s eyes moved immediately toward Ethan.Richard’s expression revealed nothing.Victoria, Sophia, and Emma remained silent. They had all heard Ryan.Ethan had not.“What are you talking about?” Ethan finally asked. The security chief straightened. “One of my men found the sapphire necklace inside your study.”“That is impossible.”“It was inside the bottom drawer of your desk.”Ethan shook his head. “I didn’t put it there.”One of the relatives standing near the doorway gave an uncomfortable laugh.“Well, this evening keeps getting stranger.”Ryan glanced at him.Understatement of the year.Sophia almost smiled.Ethan looked at Ryan. “I swear I didn’t do this.”Ryan raised an eyebrow.“Why are you telling me?”“Because your room was searched firs
Ch-5 What Happened Fifteen Years Ago
Ryan opened the door.Five people stood outside. His father. His mother. And all three sisters. He stared at them. They stared back.Nobody spoke.Ryan slowly looked from Catherine to Richard, then toward the three women standing behind them.“What are you doing?”Emma opened her mouth.Victoria immediately grabbed her arm.“We came to check on you,” Victoria said.“All five of you?”“Yes.”“At the same time?”Sophia smiled awkwardly. “We’re a close family.”Ryan looked at their faces. This family is terrible at lying.Sophia’s smile disappeared.Richard cleared his throat.“Your mother wanted to make sure you had everything you needed.”Ryan looked at Catherine. She nodded quickly.“Yes.”“At eleven at night?”Catherine hesitated.Ryan sighed.“Whatever.”He stepped aside.“Come in.”The five Harringtons entered.Ryan closed the door, then returned to the sofa. His phone was still in his hand.Catherine noticed it immediately.“Did something happen?”Ryan looked at her.For half a se
Ch 6 — The Sister Who Was Supposed to Die
Ryan did not sleep.By six in the morning, he had read the anonymous messages at least thirty times.SHE SAVED YOU.Your family blamed the wrong person. The old photograph remained open on his phone.Five-year-old Ryan was smiling beside a woman whose face had been scratched away. His nanny. The woman the Harringtons had suspected of kidnapping him.Ryan leaned back against the headboard.“Great.”Yesterday, his biggest problem had been an adopted brother with an empty suitcase. Now he had a fifteen-year-old kidnapping mystery.Progress.He enlarged the photograph again.Nothing useful. No visible location. No readable sign.Only a garden, a stone wall, and part of a silver car.Whoever sent this wants me investigating. That bothered him.If the sender wanted to help, why hide?If they wanted to hurt him, why give him information?Ryan locked his phone. And why now?Someone had waited fifteen years. Then the moment he returned to the Harrington mansion, the messages started.A knock i
Ch-7 this wasn't in the novel
Ethan was watching them.Ryan noticed it eventually. Not immediately. His attention was still on the anonymous messages glowing on his phone. You saved her this time. But how many of them can you save before you forget what happens next?Ryan read the words once more.A cold feeling settled in his stomach.Someone knew too much. Not just that Victoria’s accident had been supposed to happen. The sender knew Ryan had remembered it.That should have been impossible.Ryan had told no one about the novel. No one knew he had lived another life.No one even knew he wasn’t truly the Ryan Harrington who had disappeared fifteen years ago.At least…That was what he had believed.“Ryan?”Victoria’s voice pulled him back.He locked the phone.“I’m fine.”“You don’t look fine.”“I haven’t looked fine since I arrived here.”Under normal circumstances, Sophia would have laughed. She didn’t.Richard was still speaking to the security team.Catherine stood beside Victoria, holding her daughter’s hand
Ch-8 what are you hiding from me?
Ryan read the message again.Ask yourself why the people around you suddenly know exactly when to believe you.He didn’t move.Neither did his family. That was the problem. If the message meant nothing, someone should have laughed.Asked what kind of nonsense the sender was talking about.Dismissed it.Instead, Catherine had gone pale.Richard looked like someone had placed a gun on his desk.Victoria, Sophia, and Emma were suddenly avoiding Ryan’s eyes.Ryan slowly lowered his phone.Interesting.Very interesting.“What does that mean?”Nobody answered immediately.Ryan looked at Richard.“Dad?”Richard’s expression changed slightly at the word.Ryan didn’t care this time.“What are they talking about?”“We don’t know.”Ryan stared at him.Lie.Richard heard it.His jaw tightened.Ryan noticed. And not a very good one.Sophia looked down.Ryan’s gaze snapped toward her.“You know something?”“No.”“That was fast.”“What?”“You answered before I finished looking at you.”Sophia’s lips
Ch-9 woman he was supposed to avoid
Ryan stared at the photograph. The woman was tied to a wooden chair. Her hair was streaked with gray now, but the face was unmistakable. The same woman from the old photograph. His nanny.Alive.At least when the picture had been taken.Ryan zoomed in.A concrete wall. One broken window.A metal shelf.Nothing else. The location attached to the message pointed to an abandoned industrial district forty minutes away.Come alone if you want to know why she took you.Ryan’s jaw tightened.Obviously a trap.Outside his room, Catherine stopped running. But if she’s really alive…Catherine turned toward Richard’s study.Ryan grabbed his jacket. He had no intention of going alone. He also had no intention of sitting in the mansion while someone who might know what happened fifteen years ago was being held hostage. He opened his bedroom door. Two security guards were waiting.Ryan stopped. That was fast.“Mr. Harrington wants you downstairs,” one said.Ryan stared at him.How the hell does Dad
Ch-10 novel is already wrong
The first gunshot shattered the window.Ryan hit the floor.Claire was already beside him.Daniel overturned a table and pulled it between them and the broken glass.“Stay down!”Another shot struck the wall.People screamed.Chairs scraped across the floor.Someone crawled toward the kitchen.Ryan kept his head low.Twice in one day.He looked toward the shattered window.I’m starting to take this personally.Several miles away, Sophia almost laughed. Then remembered her brother was being shot at.Her face immediately went pale again.Inside the coffee shop, Daniel spoke into his radio.“Shots fired! East side! Move!”Ryan looked at Claire. She was remarkably calm.Too calm.“You get shot at often?”“No.”“You don’t look surprised.”“I panic privately.”“Convenient.”Claire glared at him.Another bullet hit the overturned table.“Would you prefer screaming?”“No.”“Then shut up.”Ryan blinked.Definitely the female lead.Claire obviously didn’t hear him.She grabbed the folder from t
