The heavy oak doors of the library groaned as Leon stepped into the silence. Outside, the Academy grounds were buzzing with the post-exam chaos of students, but here, the air felt stagnant, smelling of parchment and ancient, cooling magic. His heart was still hammering against his ribs, a frantic rhythm that felt entirely foreign to the cold, clinical void he had experienced in the exam hall. He kept his hands balled into tight fists, afraid that if he let go, the residual static from his power might bleed out and start silencing the librarians."You’re overthinking it, Vargas," he whispered to himself, his voice barely a breath. "It was just a fluke. A pressure-induced hallucination."He navigated the rows of towering bookshelves, his eyes scanning the aisles. He didn't have to look far.Putri Maharani was sitting at a corner desk, her back to the main walkway. She was buried under a pile of Advanced Arcane Theory textbooks, her dark hair pulled up into a messy bun that defied the st

The architecture of the research wing felt like the ribcage of a leviathan vast, stone-cold, and suffocatingly ancient. Leon moved with a gait that wasn't entirely his own, his boots barely making a sound on the marble floors. Beside him, Putri walked with a predatory grace, her eyes tracking the flickering golden sigil on his wrist as if it were a holy relic."You’re quiet, Leon," Putri murmured, her voice barely a ripple in the stagnant, dust-choked air of the corridor. "Usually, people start begging or asking questions when they realize their own body isn't taking orders from their brain anymore."Leon didn't look at her. His gaze was fixed forward, his focus anchored entirely on the dull, throbbing heat radiating from his skin. "I’m not begging. I’m just trying to figure out if I’m the one pulling the strings or if I’m the one being pulled.""Does it matter?" Putri stepped closer, the hem of her robes brushing against his trousers. "If the result is absolute control, if you can fi

The shadows in the alcove seemed to pulse with a life of their own, coiling around Leon and Putri like smoke. The air was heavy, charged with that metallic, ozone-heavy scent that had followed him since the exam. Leon could feel the golden sigil on his wrist burning a frantic, rhythmic heat that demanded to be spent."Wait," Leon breathed, his voice tight. "Did you hear that?"Putri tilted her head, her dark eyes shimmering with an unreadable light. "Hear what, Leon? The sound of your own ambition, or the sound of the world starting to fray at the edges?"Before he could answer, a shout echoed from the main corridor, followed by the sickening thud of a fist hitting bone."Don't give me that, Kael! You think just because you’re a legacy you can step over anyone you want?"Leon pushed past Putri, stepping out into the hallway. Two students Kael, a hulking upperclassman with a reputation for casual cruelty, and a younger, frantic-looking boy, were locked in a heated standoff. Kael had th

The silence in Leon’s room was absolute, a perfect, unbreachable sphere that had swallowed him whole. He had locked the door, slid down the cool wood until his back met the floorboards, and stared at his hands. They looked like polished marble, devoid of warmth, of sensation, of life itself. He was the architect, he had whispered to the stillness. The silence had only waited, hungry.Morning arrived not with sunlight, but with the muted, oppressive glow of the Academy’s internal lighting. Leon remained on the floor, his body a cold, unresponsive shell. The night had offered no respite, no flicker of human feeling. He had achieved the void, the chilling emptiness he’d craved. Yet, as the minutes bled into hours, a new sensation began to stir, an alien, unwelcome tremor deep within the hollow space where his heart should have been.He finally forced himself to stand, his movements stiff, robotic. The Advanced Rhetoric seminar was scheduled for mid-morning. He couldn't afford to miss it,

Leon turned, the weight of his declaration still hanging in the stale, archive air. "A disaster, then," he repeated, his voice devoid of the tremor that used to plague him. "If the Academy wants to feed, I’ll make sure the meal bites back." Putri leaned against a heavy mahogany shelf, a smirk playing on her lips that was half-amused, half-terrified. "You talk a big game for someone currently glowing like a discount neon sign, Leon. You really think you’re ready for a real trial?" "I’m done asking for permission," Leon said, stepping toward her. He felt a weird hum in his chest, a strange, electric buzz that made him feel like he could laugh at a funeral. "Is this the part where we run, or are you actually going to help me wreck this place?" Putri let out a sharp, breathless giggle. "Wreck it? Darling, I’ve been trying to find an excuse to burn the administrative wing since freshman year. I’m
