Chapter 1
“Wait for me!”

Fred Hoffman shouted into the phone in an unprecedentedly cold tone.

Even Valerie Cadman found the chill in his voice a little unfamiliar.

Nevertheless, Valerie shook her head, somewhat amused. “Wait for you? Even if I do, what can you do? You’re a useless person who can’t even stand on your own two feet! What can you possibly do?”

It might be inappropriate to say such things about her own husband but Valerie did not think she was wrong at all. She even found the situation a little sad.

People used to flock around her but her life was suddenly filled with sorrow when her grandfather forced her to marry this piece of trash who had nothing, who could not even stand, and who was bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life ever since three years ago.

Those who used to envy her—even admire her—started ridiculing her one by one.

Those who used to pursue her and revered her as a goddess began ruthlessly crushing her family and her career.

She knew what would happen today, yet she still came here.

“Wait for me!!!”

It was still the same cold voice. Valerie’s thoughts went haywire at this moment. On the other end of the call, Fred had remained the same.

“Wimp. Talking to you is a waste of my time!”

With a cold, disdainful snort, Valerie ended the call immediately before fixing her appearance. She forced a bright smile on her face despite how uncomfortable the overly revealing dress made her feel, and returned to the dining table.

“Valerie, you were on the phone for quite some time! Was it your husband? Why don't you have him come over as well?”

“Have you forgotten that her husband’s legs don’t work? How is he going to come here? Have someone to push him over?”

“Oh drat! I forgot about that. I’ve heard that Valerie's husband is not just a cripple, but he is also a poor man. It won’t be good if he comes and embarrasses himself at an event like this! You’re so thoughtful, Valerie. It’s for the best that he doesn’t come!”

She did not reply.

Or, rather, there was nothing she could say to refute that.

Valerie knew that these women sitting here used to be beneath her in the pecking order—they could only look up to her back then. However, they could now mock her unscrupulously.

Since they were all from good families, they all lived a life of luxury.

This was evident enough from the cars they rode, their clothes, jewelry, and even their unremarkable-looking coin purses.

As for her?

The clothes she wore had been given to her by a young nobleman who had been pursuing her before she got married. They had been well-preserved to this day.

Many nights Valerie could do nothing but cry silently as she looked at the good-for-nothing man she had locked outside the room, sitting in his wheelchair silently.

She wailed to the heavens about the injustice and grumbled at her late grandfather, asking why he had forced her to marry this good-for-nothing Fred and, in doing so, ruined her life!

“Mr. Graham…”

No matter how heavy her thoughts were, Valerie did not forget her purpose for coming here today. With that in mind, she slowly raised her glass and looked toward the heart of the table, at the young man who was surrounded by several bodies. She smiled apologetically and said, “Mr. Graham, you understand that for my family’s business, I… I must meet Mr. Walker today no matter what. Could you—”

“Miss Cadman, what are you even saying?”

Mr. Graham gave a faint smile at Valerie’s toast and said, “Since we know each other, I will, of course, help however I can! Yes, Mr. Walker is indeed staying in a hotel under the Grahams’ name tonight. However, you know as well that he is the inspector sent by Fantastic Corporation. I'm afraid it would displease him if I were to disturb him so hastily.”

“You don't have to worry about that, Mr. Graham…”

Valerie had already prepared herself mentally and immediately flashed a smile. “I will find a way as long as…as long as you tell me Mr. Walker’s room number.”

All the other women around scoffed faintly when they heard this.

Valerie’s words clearly indicated that she had made plans for tonight and that she was going to take the initiative to offer herself to Mr. Walker!

“Mr. Graham, Valerie is right! She used to be the number-one beauty in Sea City back in the day. Mr. Walker would certainly give her the time of day!” came the immediate and deliberate chortle of a woman.

After she said this, the woman beside her said abruptly in a rather exaggerated manner, “That's not necessarily certain! Mr. Walker has such great influence that even Mr. Graham needs to receive him properly!”

“What's not certain?”

The woman who spoke previously smiled and said, “As the saying goes, even heroes are weak against the charm of a beautiful woman! You all know this!”

“Yes…”

Everyone else deliberately extended their affirmations together when the woman’s words fell. Valerie lowered her head when she heard this. She wished she could hide in a hole right now.

However, the more Valerie reacted like this, the brighter the women’s smiles became. They were basically implying that the number-one beauty of Sea City, who had once overwhelmed the world with her beauty, could now only reduce herself to a prostitute to survive after being married to that disabled and penniless trash.

“Mr. Graham...”

Taking a deep breath and calming herself, Valerie looked at Mr. Graham again and said, “You see… this matter—”

“Haha, since Miss Cadman is asking like this, seems I have no choice but to help. How about this? You hold onto this room card!”

Mr. Graham presented a room card to Valerie as he said that.

Valerie immediately got flustered when she saw this, asking, “Is this Mr. Walker’s…”

“This is my private room card for the hotel. Miss Cadman. You, too, are aware of Mr. Walker’s unusual status. If there’s anything, we can discuss it later in detail.”

Mr. Graham looked at Valerie unabashedly before pointedly fishing out another room card and waving it in his hand. “Look, Miss Cadman. This is Mr. Walker's room card. This room card will be yours as long as we head upstairs and make a deal later. Or, that is to say, once I’m satisfied!” he said with a smile.

Valerie's face instantly went pale at his words.

Mr. Graham's private room card? Head upstairs and discuss details? He also had to be satisfied?

Did that mean that she and Mr. Graham had to…do that first before he would give her Mr. Walker’s room card? After that, she and Mr. Walker would also have to…

Was she really going to sell herself like this?

Despite that, what else could she do? Had she not already accepted her fate ever since she was married to that pauper, Fred? That piece of trash with useless legs?

Thinking up till this point, Valerie took a deep breath, her teeth gritting. Finally, she reached her trembling hand out toward the room card in Mr. Graham’s hand.

As for Mr. Graham, his gaze instantly became fiery when he saw Valerie like this. The women surrounding them all looked on as if they were watching a movie.

Bam!

There was a dull sound accompanied by the opening of a private room door, catching everyone off guard.

Then, a voice, deep and loud, sounded amidst everyone's astonishment.

“I told you, wait for me!!!”
