Sparks filled the space between Theodore and Van when their weapons clashed together. The purple flame kept burning at the top of Theodore's scythe while he took careful steps backward.

He kept staring at the double butcher's knife in Van's hand, the lime-coloured flame was intimidating for sure, but the broad rectangular steel head made it more intimidating, including the weight.

Theodore had felt it when the weapon clashed with his scythe on several occasions.

“I heard about it,” Ashford's voice made Brandon halt in his footsteps. Then he got down from his seat, walking at a measured pace towards Brandon. For a second he looked at Freya, but unable to keep it, Freya broke the eye contact. She couldn't even hide the hate one bit. Especially with everything going on with Brandon. All along she knew someone had been the cause of Brandon's sudden change in behaviour.'How could I miss it all this time?’ She gritted her teeth. 'Who else could control you?’She raised her eyes to look at Brandon who faked a smile at Ashford while nodding like a puppet Ashford was trying to turn him into.“It was a good one,” Brandon said, with a slight bow. “I also made sure William got into an actual combat without getting hurt.”There was no better word to tag the expression Ashford on his face other than SATISFIED.“I really love the man you're becoming,” he took Brandon's hand in his own, kissing it softly. “Before you know it, you'd be in a league of your ow

“Joshua you're back…” Gina was going to say something, but with the way Joshua's face was, she swallowed the words back.“Did something happen?”He tried to hide the expression on his face but it was not working, and he figured he might just excuse himself. “Please, I'll talk to you later. For now, I need to clear my head.”“Sure,” she nodded, stepping out of the way for him to walk in.Ari was not looking good either, same with Alice. “No,” Gina's words came out as a whisper. “Ben—” she covered her mouth when a sudden lump formed in her throat.“How did it happen?” She ran her trembling fingers on the lifeless body of Benjamin that had become cold. Pale.Matthias walked into the compound, and when he got to the tarred space he dropped the body, but he did not get his knees off the floor. He kept staring at it with tears blurring his vision.“You want to know how it happened?” Matthias knew Gina was still behind him.“Yes,” she inhaled sharply. “Tell me please.”He gripped his trouse

“It's my team, I get to choose who you take,” Derek had no idea when those words came out, but he didn't shy away, despite the way Brandon looked at him.It was Andrew he was talking about. Gone. Without a warning.“You could have asked first,” he added, this time, in a firm tone, unfortunately, it triggered Brandon. However, he was kind enough to laugh it off.“I don't need permission to kill,” Brandon answered. “Moreover, it's just a knife to the heart. I was honourable enough to not cut off his head.”Speaking further would only lead him to his own death, his best bet was to walk away. Try to stomach it until Brandon was gone. After all, there was no way a dead man could avenge the death of his loved one.Derek turned to the back, striding towards Andrew whose eyes were still open, staring at the sky. While he lay down in his own pool of blood.“Molly, Lucas,” he whispered when he knelt beside Andrew. “And he chose you.”Derek closed Andrew's eyes before getting back to his feet. “

  • CHAPTER 99

'Benjamin was really dead?’Joshua had been looking around at intervals. Whenever he pushed Larissa so hard that her back was pressed against the floor. And even when it was his own back against the floor. Any chance he got. 'How cruel could this world even get?’ He demanded in his head. A world where you could not even mourn a dead one or else you'll get to meet them in the afterlife immediately. He couldn't even confirm anything. And now that the system announced its prize, Larissa wouldn't back down.Matthias had gone over to Theodore. The only people who were free were Ari, Alice, Talia, and Catherine who had just regained her consciousness.Although she was still restrained by Ari.It was wise for Talia to yield, knowing fully that she was the only one left on her team. There was nothing she could do to actually take home the grand prize, not with the numbers stacked against her.“Tell me Joshua, will you back down if you were in my shoes?” He knew Larissa was referring to the

  • CHAPTER 98

“What would Ashford do when he realizes you did something like this?” Dominic asked Brandon who watched William as he walked forward. The lad was a few inches taller than Derek, although Derek's width made up for it. William was not so skinny either, but the difference was pretty obvious, just like the height advantage William had.“Do you think he supported me when we went to the S-rank gate?” Without turning his head to Dominic he demanded, while reminiscing how close he got to that.Has he even gotten that close before? Well, he could not answer that.“Dominic,” he called out, taking in the blood tainted air. “There are things you would find out with time, and when you do… you'd be stunned.”“Same with you Chloe,” Brandon turned back to the girl who had been silent the whole time. He recognized her immediately she was picked. She was the girl he wanted to send an errand, when he was in a discussion with Lauren even though he knew she was late. Her sudden gasp made him realize she w

  • CHAPTER 97

Derek knew fear. He had felt it. He knew what it's like to be intimidated, but he had never felt something like this. A power as terrifying as Brandon's. “A mother and a daughter,” Brandon's speed shook the whole place, followed by a sudden gust of wind when he quickly got to the woman's daughter, caressing the side of her face with his fingers. “It must be nice to still have a family.” The memory of his dad came flooding in like a door that was suddenly opened for water to flow in, and that forced a bitter smile to curl his lips. “Leave my daughter alone!” The woman yelled, pulling out a dagger as she closed the distance between them. “I said leave my—” Brandon blew her off to the tree with the side of his hand, disgust masking his features. “Pathetic.” The woman fell back to the ground on her first attempt to get up, then the second. “What…” she knelt down with heavy breaths. “Did you do to me?” A sudden whoosh tore through her ears, forcing her eyes to flare wide in fright, he
