Al sat in the back seat with a serious face, reading the financial report that Joe had just given him last night. His eyes traced every number and strategy that needed to be understood, while the car driven by Joe drove at a steady speed on the highway.

"So, this is Cassie's company..." Al muttered softly. He never imagined that he would be directly involved in the business world, especially with Cassie's decline.

Joe who was sitting in the front seat glanced at Al through the rearview mirror. "Mr. Al, are you sure you don't want an extra bodyguard? I've had a bad feeling since earlier."

Al sighed softly. "I don't need a bodyguard, Joe. This is just a trip to work, not a war."

Joe snorted. "Yeah, but I don't feel good."

Just as Joe finished speaking, a black car suddenly cut them off abruptly, causing him to hit the brakes hard. The car tires screeched sharply on the asphalt, almost hitting the vehicle behind.

"Asshole!" Joe cursed while gripping the steering wheel tightly. "Young Master Al, something's wrong!"

Before Al could respond, four large men got out of the black car. Their faces were cold, their gazes threatening. One of them, a bald-headed man with a neck tattoo, stepped forward.

"Get out," he said in a heavy voice.

Joe quickly pulled out his gun, but before he could aim it, someone from behind smashed the windshield with an iron rod. The glass cracked badly.

"Goddamn it!" Joe reached for the spare gun under the seat, but the bald man immediately pulled open the door and grabbed him by the collar, dragging him out roughly.

Al, not wanting to appear weak, got out of the car without force. "Who are you?" he asked sharply.

The tattooed man smirked. "None of your business. But if you're smart, you'll obey."

Joe, who had already been hit once in the jaw, spat on the ground. "Bastards, you think it's easy to attack us like this?"

One of the big men approached Al and without a signal immediately threw a punch at his face. Al dodged, but another man from behind pulled his collar, knocking him off balance.

"Agh!" Al fell to the asphalt, feeling the taste of iron in his mouth as blood flowed from his lips.

Joe tried to get up, but two men held him down, pounding his body mercilessly. He growled in pain, trying to fight back, but there were too many of them.

Al, who was already on his feet again, looked at the tattooed man with a murderous glare. "Who told you, huh?"

The man just chuckled. "You thought I'd tell you?"

Al spat on the ground, his eyes still sharp. "If you want to kill me, do it now. But if you want to play around, I'll make you regret it."

The man approached, looking at Al mockingly. "Easy, easy, Young Master. We won't kill you here."

Without warning, a hard fist landed on Al's stomach. He jerked, but didn't fall.

Joe who saw it growled angrily, "You bastards!"

The tattooed man kicked Al to the ground again. "This is a warning. You think you can get into the business world without consequences?"

Al gasped for air, holding back the pain. But he stares at the man without fear. "I'll find out who sent you."

The man grinned before signaling his men to stand down. "We'll see."

They got back into the black car and drove off, leaving Al and Joe battered on the side of the road.

Joe wiped the blood from his temple. "Shit! We gotta find out who they are!"

Al caught his breath, his face scarred but his eyes sharp. "I'll find out. But obviously, it's not over yet."

He felt pain all over his body, but one thing was certain-this was the beginning of something much bigger.

One year has passedThe lights in Cassie's company building were still on even though it was almost midnight. Inside the main room, Al Vino sat behind a large desk with a stack of documents that he still had to review. The work was tiring, but every achievement he made brought him satisfaction. Cassie stepped in without knocking. Her face looked tired, but there was a proud glint in her eyes when she saw her husband so focused. "It's late. You're not home yet?" she asked as she leaned against the door. Al smiled briefly without raising his head. "I still have something to finish. It's a progress report on the investment in the tech startup we just funded." Cassie walked over and sat on the edge of the table, crossing her legs. "You've really changed, Al. You used to be just a man who survived on strength and instinct. Now, you're a respected leader of the company." Al put down his pen, looking at him with great tenderness. "I wouldn't have gotten to this point without you, C

"Attack him!" Hugo shouted. Al had expected that Hugo wouldn't let him go easily. However, he did not expect the execution order to come so quickly. One of Hugo's men slammed into his stomach with a hard fist, sending him staggering backward. Before he could catch his breath, another punch landed on his jaw. The salty taste of blood spread in his mouth. "Mr. Hugo doesn't like scum like you hanging around." Al spat blood onto the floor. "In that case, why don't you do it yourself?" his gaze was sharp, challenging the man standing in front. The man grinned, then gestured. Suddenly, the other two restrained Al's arms, allowing the first man to beat his body mercilessly. Their fists landed in his stomach, ribs, and face in rapid succession. Al tried to fight back, but with three opponents at once, his movements were limited. Pain pierced every inch of his body, but he gritted his teeth, refusing to give in. Just as the man was about to smash his elbow into Al's temple, a guns

Ten o'clock at night, Al kept his eyes closed, but his ears caught Cassie's soft voice talking on the phone. "I want you to watch over Al Vino," Cassie's voice sounded weak but firm. "Don't let Uncle Hugo or his people touch him." There was a short pause, then Cassie continued. "I don't care how much it costs. I want her to be safe." Al held his breath. So, Cassie secretly hired a bodyguard for him? "Don't let him know," Cassie added before finally hanging up. Al opened his eyes slowly, staring at the ceiling of the room with various thoughts running through his head. So this is the price to pay for living in the world of the rich? Lives can be taken at any time, just because someone feels threatened or unacceptable. Cassie lay back down beside him. Her face looked tired, but the look in her eyes was still full of determination. "You're not asleep yet?" Cassie's voice was soft, noticing Al who was still awake. Al turned his head towards her. "Not yet. You're also stil

Joe massaged his throbbing temples, while Al sat in the car seat breathing heavily. His face was bruised, blood still dripping from the corners of his lips. "We need to find out who wanted you dead, Young Master," Joe said in a tense tone. Al wiped the blood on his lips with the back of his hand. "They're not trying to kill me. They just wanted to give me a warning." Joe looked at him sharply through the rearview mirror. "A warning from who?" Al paused, his mind spinning rapidly. He had only been in Cassie's business for a few days, he hadn't made any enemies yet. If there was someone who wanted to get rid of him, then that person had already considered him a threat from the start. Elsewhere, a middle-aged man sat in a spacious room with large glass windows overlooking the city center. Hugo Benedict, Cassie's uncle, sipped his wine calmly. "Have you taught that man a lesson?" he asked in a low, yet authoritative voice. One of his men nodded. "We did, Mr. Hugo. We made su

Al sat by Cassie's bedside, holding her hand tightly. His face showed deep worry, while Cassie looked even weaker. Her body now looked fragile, but her spirit could still be seen from her eyes looking at Al. Perhaps this was one of Cassie's premonitions, she forced Al to become her pretend husband in order to protect her and save all the wealthy assets she had from irresponsible people, like her ex-fiancé. "Al, I can't go on like this. My body is getting weaker, and I know that I may not have much time left," Cassie said in a hoarse voice. Every word that came out of her mouth was heavy. Cassie was so sure that Al Vino Chandra was the right person."Don't talk like that, Cassie. You will recover. You're undergoing treatment, and I'm sure you'll recover," Al replied in a hopeful tone, even though he knew in his heart that Cassie was probably right.Cassie shook her head weakly. "Al, I have to be realistic. You know how I am. I can't take care of the company like I used to. I've thou
