Gary didn’t waste a second. He snatched a rumpled blue shirt, sprayed some cheap cologne, grabbed his wallet, and bolted from the room, nearly tripping over his own feet in the rush.

Going through the living room was a bad idea. Gary knew that the Lancasters were demons and did not care about his grandmother. They’d paid her hospital bills as part of their deal, sure, but after that? She could rot for all they cared. Whatever happened to the old lady after their agreement was none of their concern.

So he crept to the kitchen’s back door, silent as a ghost. He eased it shut behind him, praying no one noticed. He made sure to draw no attention

The kitchen was unusually dark. The lights were always turned on. Madam Ann hated the dark and made sure her mansion was properly lit, from the underground chambers to the garage and to her room. She believed in vampires and believed that keeping her room properly lit kept them away.

Nevertheless, Gary quietly tiptoed until he found the doorknob to the back door. But before he pushed it open, he paused. Something was not right. He heard some slight movement coming from the same kitchen he was standing in.

Soft groans—moans?—slithered through the shadows. Was Madam Ann right about bloodsuckers?

Imbibed by his curiosity, Gary switched on the lights. And what he saw was far more haunting than vampires lurking in the dark.

It was Kage. Kage was in the kitchen, but he was not alone. He was with…

“Evelyn?” Gary called out, almost losing his voice.

Evelyn was half naked. This was the first and only time Gary had ever seen her almost totally undressed. Kage also had his pants down, his manhood sticking out like a schmuck.

They were breathing heavily, their bodies dripping with sweat. Evelyn quickly tried to cover her body in shame while Kage was slightly unbothered. He even leaned in to kiss Evelyn, a middle finger to Gary’s existence.

No place for him here. Not with the Lancasters. Not in her life.

“Hey, putz. Off to clear some trash? That is good cause you should get yourself useful around here.” Kage teased.

But Gary could barely hear his words. His attention was focused on Evelyn, who looked a little remorseful. She grabbed a glass of water and gulped down, avoiding eye contact with Gary.

“Now move along, asshole before I do it for you! We are having a private session. Didn’t Madam Ann tell you not to leave your room until the party was over?” Kage asked coarsely.

Gary felt a drop of tear run down his face. He looked at Kage, who was ranting like a fool. And then he looked at his wristwatch. 20 minutes was all he had, and now, it had been cut down to 15 minutes. How fast could he drive?

Gary clenched his fist, gritted his teeth, and then turned to leave. His grandmother was a priority, and he would not foolishly let some prick of a nincompoop derail him. And as for Evelyn, as much as it hurt him, he would not be a wimpy coward for her. He was done!

But Kage’s next words stopped him:

“Yes, go clean people’s toilets and make a few bucks so your grandmother doesn't die. I hear she is still in the hospital. She should just die already so that you can have a purpose in…”

Gary didn't think. He didn't hesitate.

Before Kage could finish his sentence, Gary spun around and drove his fist straight into his jaw.

The impact was sharp and loud, sending Kage stumbling backward into the counter. Glasses shattered, water splashed, and Evelyn gasped in horror.

Kage, clutching his jaw, staggered upright, his eyes wide in disbelief. "You... you little shit!"

Evelyn screamed, rushing to Kage’s side. "Gary, have you lost your mind?!"

Gary stood there, his chest heaving, his fist still clenched. His knuckles burned, but he really didn’t care, did not give a single fuck. His vision blurred with rage, with betrayal, with years of swallowing his pride for a woman who didn’t deserve it.

"You can insult me all you want, asshole," Gary muttered through gritted teeth, grabbing Kage by the collar. "But you will never speak about my grandmother like that. The next time you do, I swear to God I will rip your eyeball from your fucking socket!"

He pulled back his fist, ready to strike again—

"STOP IT, GARY!" Evelyn’s voice cracked. She was crying, begging for Gary to let Kage go.

Why? Why’d she defend this bastard? He’d taken her betrayal before—lied to himself she’d come around. No more. It was clear that Evelyn despised him. He had been a fool.

Soon, the kitchen was swarmed with people. Everyone brought out their phones and were recording. Kage was a multimillionaire, and Gary had made the biggest mistake of his life. Not even the Lancaster family could save him from what Kage would decide to do to him.

“Gary Wang!” Madam Ann suddenly screamed out at the top of her lungs. “You are finished!”

Miles sat crumpled in the seat, shivering violently. His eyes were wide but vacant, lips pale. The voltage had nearly fried his nervous system. “He’ll be okay, Master,” said Langston’s voice from the front. Calm. Mechanical. One of the many assistants Gary had on-call. Gary didn’t look at him. “Well, he better be,” Gary said quietly, “or it’ll be you on a hospital bed. Hooked to a goddamn drip.” Shen fell silent. Gary’s jaw tightened. His grandfather had warned him. You can’t outrun your blood, son. And oh, how he tried. He ran from the island. From the name. From the empire. He thought this was it. Return home, live a hap

  • Chapter 182: "Please, Galy"

It was easy to believe. It all made sense why he felt a thing for the young man, the very first day he saw him at a restaurant. Gary had sworn to mind his business and not interfere with issues that did not concern him. But that day, seeing the young man being treated like trash, he knew he had to do something. He couldn’t bring himself to watch Miles get beat. Fast forward to today, he was hearing this? He needed to get to the root of this. But again, his grandmother was still there, in the aircraft. They needed to go home. Now, Miles was getting ready for his final attack. He curled his fist. “But I found out that you, your fucking grandfather and your whole sick empire have been lying to the world. You’re all monsters. Playing gods with people’s lives. And you—Galy—you just stood there. You let her die! You let my mother die!” Gary stood slowly, his jaw bruised, blood on his lip, his chest heaving from the blow. But his eyes remained calm. “Miles, listen to me…” “No! No, shu

  • Chapter 181: A Boy Called Revenge

Gary jogged past the hangar edge, down the terminal corridor, cold steel walls racing past in a blur. Then he turned the corner. And stopped. Blood. So much blood. It stained the white tiles like spilled ink. A trail of crimson dragged along the wall. And in the middle of it was the young man…. Miles. Soaked. Wild-eyed. Panting like an animal backed into a corner. His shirt torn, his fists raw. Blood—some fresh, some dried—covered his forearms like war paint. And at his feet, three guards. Maybe four. It was hard to count them in the twisted way their bodies fell. Miles looked up. Their eyes locked. Gary almost didn’t recognize him. The last time he saw the kid was at the bunker months ago. When he saved him and other kids. He felt a special connection then, something fatherly, protective. He even put him in one of his mansions in Hong Kong to be treated. That was the end of the boy's story—or so he thought. But the boy before him now? This wasn’t that Miles. This was someon

  • Chapter 180: Finally Over!?

Oftentimes in life, we are faced with situations that force us to make choices. Good or bad. Wrong or right. Just or unfair. It’s easy. Choices like those are easy. They’re subjective, relative. You follow your gut, your conscience, or your God—whatever holds your compass. You’re a good man, you take the right. You’re a bad woman, you walk into the wrong for selfish reasons or otherwise. But what happens when you stand at the crossroads and the signposts are blank? There are no rights. No wrongs. No north. No south. Just fog. And silence. The kind of silence that wraps around your throat like a velvet rope—soft, but choking. You look down both paths and realize… either one will cost you something. Either one will leave you with blood on your hands. That was where Gary stood. Not as a billionaire. Not as a Wang. Not as a savior. But as a man. A grandson. And—somehow—the last hope of a woman whose name had become a whisper in his heart. Mei Lin. He hadn’t said it aloud yet. I
