Everyone was shocked; the president just declared a duel against a first year.
The room remained silent, tension had built up, pressure and nervousness also began to rose, and the cafeteria itself was in a glued state.
The white-haired loli then disrupted the silence, tugging Shuuta's shirt from his well-shaped back.
"I'm sorry for getting you into all this...and I wanted to kill you myself..." the loli bows as an apology.
Shuuta pops a vein on his forehead.
"What if I refuse then?"
"I'll just kill you right here Shuuta."
"If I agree I'll die anyway!"
The blonde boy had a grin on his face, nodding haughtily.
"You b*tch."
Shuuta glared at Hikaru; he can't believe him. Wasn't he a phoenix feather or a lottery ticket?
"I'll show you that even without powers, I still stand a chance!"
Hikaru smiled at his response; he then walked away and did a sign with his eyes, indicating "follow me."
Not just Shuuta, half of the cafeteria followed them.
It was the first time Hikaru has declared a duel, not to mention, that nobody knows if he can fight! It was a battle of Mystery! Shuuta as well, everyone saw how the red-haired boy massacred the gals. He definitely had balls.
Everyone had sparkly eyes when the crowd of students placed their eyes on Hikaru. Shuuta was envious; if he had people who admire him, his determination probably would have been higher.
Also, Shuuta sensed many gazes of disdain and arrogancy, killing intent was easily oozing from those students, 'These people! I feel like they would kill other students for him!'
Even someone threw a journal at him, not a pencil, nor an eraser, or paper; a full notebook was just thrown at him.
'If I become a murderer after this, I'll blame it on you, Hikaru!' Shuuta exploded his temple with that comment.
After taking corners, they finally arrived at the school's dojo, a multi-martial arts dojo for self-defense.
Hikaru leads Shuuta towards a dueling mattress.
"Don't worry, you won't feel anything."
"Thanks for your concern...as a matter of fact, go f*ck yourself!"
Shuuta had a stern expression; he couldn't resist beating Hikaru to a pulp. to show him who's superior, even though he's powerless.
Everybody was excited that a fight was about to happen. It was none other than the White prince of Memorial.
Many people admired the handsome blonde guy, not for his looks but his accomplishments.
"Alright, let us begin. You can come at me whenever you want." Hikaru spoke provocatively. Glancing at Shuuta, he wondered if he really was that strong; wanting to test his abilities, he smiled reflexively. 'Let's see if you have the potential or not.'
Just a Hikaru uttered his words, Shuuta charged at him hastily, Hikaru just widened his eyes in surprise.
There was a flash in Hikaru's eyes; he quickly followed where Shuuta was going and his next moves.
Shuuta's right fist darted towards Hikaru's face, and Hikaru was ready to counter-attack. But suddenly, there was an abrupt halt from Shuuta; his fist stopped midway, which left Hikaru in a tizzy.
POW!*
His left fist connected on Hikaru's face, it made him stumble a little, but that wasn't it! Shuuta kept doing his weird-paced attacks, halting in between them throwing off Hikaru.
'Take this! You handsome devil!' Shuuta pounded at Hikaru like a punching bag; Hikaru was overthrown by this, he took steps back to gain space.
"Ohh! He's pushing back the president!"
"That first year is good!"
"Can the president even fight?! Is this even fair?!"
Kazuma was rendered speechless; he remembered when they were in middle school, Kazuma beat the living crap out of Shuuta. It was to test their strength.
But now it looked like Shuuta got way out of his league.
'What a crude fighting style. It seems Noara taught him those moves.' Kazuma grins.
"Ha! You're good! I guess I'll step it up a notch!" Hikaru sent potent kicks that felt like cannons as they hit their mark.
'What the?! His skill just went off the charts! Was he going easy on me?!' Shuuta's teeth gritted in disdain; he doesn't like losing, who does? He remembered his fight against Kazuma; he totally got spat on and was beyond embarrassed; both Kazuma and Shuuta went together to a multi-martial arts academy.
But after losing so miserably, Shuuta left the academy.
Losing brings the worst of emotions.
Shuuta got himself in a pinch; Hikaru's kicks prevented Shuuta from getting close; his arms were numb after all those kicks.
'Screw it! I'm pushing hard.'
Shuuta closed his distance; he knew that Hikaru would kick, so he dodged it to his side.
"Got you!" Shuuta then darted a punch to Hikaru's face, but.
Boom*
"W-what? How did…"
Hikaru spun back with Shuuta's parry; he used the momentum and elbowed Shuuta in the solar plexus. Shuuta spat and lost oxygen.
He then judo tossed Shuuta across the foamed floor.
Thud*
Shuuta, with the momentum, spun to his side and closed in his space once more; he lurched and back kicked.
Hikaru crossed his arms and blocked Shuuta's fierce kick.
'How about this!' Shuuta spun and low swooped his foot expecting to drop Hikaru but, the blonde lad just lurched, and guillotine kicked Shuuta on the way down.
Bam!*
Shuuta took a direct hit to the head; Kazuma was speechless; that hit could probably kill if done poorly…is this a regular duel?! He even wanted to jump him; it was evident about the skill gap.
"Unfair bastard," Kazuma muttered under his breath.
"Tch. That hurt!" Shuuta clutched his head; it hurt his pride more.
Shuuta shook his head and smiled. "I'm in trouble."
Hikaru decided to attack, reaching for Shuuta's neck, but Shuuta leaned back, avoiding the attack by an inch; even Kazuma's heart dropped! That attack right there was to kill!
Shuuta then rapidly threw a jab and connected with Hikaru's arm to counter him; Hikaru returned the punch, and Shuuta also stopped it, proceeding to almost hit each other in a dance-like choreography.
Everyone was mesmerized; it looked like an action movie about martial arts.
Kazuma spat blood. "How are they this skilled?! What kung-fu, tai-chi bullshit is this?!"
"I see Noara trained you, some of her attacks are obviously used by you."
"Tch. So you know every card I have."
Hikaru only smiled at his comment.
Clap*
Shuuta parried a strike!
Boom*
Hikaru blocked a decisive blow!
Bam*
Both slugged each other at the same time in the face pushing each other some inches away.
Both lurched simultaneously and struck each other, dropping on the foam floor. Shuuta hastily stood up and saw a shoe sole darting to his face.
Smack*
Shuuta didn't react fast enough and received a solid kick to the face!
"D-damn it…"
Shuuta's body started to falter, and his vision faded gradually, but just as he was falling into the foamed floor.
"Come on Shuuta! You got this!" A delicate voice of a girl encouraged him.
'Hanako?...' Shuuta gnashed his teeth once again, his left leg stepped hard on the mattress, preventing his falling, his eyes flashed as he gazed at Hanako, fixating on Hikaru with an intense look.
Hikaru's eyebrows furrowed; he was left mesmerized. 'He's tough as nails.'
"Finally, a worthy partner!"
FIUSH!
Hikaru's fists suddenly glowed like a light bulb. Shuuta noticed it instantly, 'So he's finishing the fight....' Shuuta smiled.
"Let's finish this!" Shuuta rushed after his loud comment; Hikaru smiled and also charged.
Shuuta took a deep breath, his gaze glued on Hikaru with red strings of energy coming out of his eyes.
'I won't lose again! Not now! Not ever!'
A dark red transparent skull shrouded Shuuta's right fist; Hikaru was left speechless, and the menacing bloodshot red skull came at him in full force.
'Is that…his magic? So he finally unlocked it! How thrilling!'
BOOM!*
Both fists collided with each other, and everyone looked in awe, both parties were on par! It was truly like a Finals match of a tournament!
But then, the bloody demonic skull started devouring the light aura on Hikaru's fist; he instantly felt a burning sensation when their fists crashed.
Hikaru's eyes puckered in pain; he was getting overwhelmed by a sinister force; it felt as if his mana was getting pulled out from him.
'What kind of prowess is this?!' Hikaru was out of breath, his light ability takes away his stamina, and his mana isn't as immense as Shuuta's, but he knows how to manage it.
Nonetheless, Shuuta gave his last push and let out a mighty war cry.
Hikaru's eyes flashed, he grabbed Shuuta's fist, and valley dropped him; Hikaru ended the fight with an arm lock.
Shuuta's skull dispersed as he hit the foam mattress.
Everybody was left speechless, the first year almost won, and Hikaru's techniques saved him.
"He's not bad!"
"Wow! That was a good fight!"
"He's also handsome."
"He's not as hot as the president though!" A man spoke from the background, everybody turned and glared at him.
"Good fight," Hikaru said, as he tapped Shuuta's shoulder.
"You're not going to kill me?" Shuuta was left a bit confused.
"Of course not, you are a big candidate for the Mystic society, killing you might just be one of the dumbest things to do...But, you deserve punishment. Divine punishment to be precise."
Gulp...
"W-what are you going to do to me?"
Suddenly a big wide grin made its way on Hikaru's face, "I might just have an idea."

"So, how did it go?" Kakoyo's voice held a tinge of irritation, her impatience evident. "It went really well! We had a lovely date," Yuri responded, her words carrying a hint of wistfulness. "At least, it felt romantic to me..." Evidently, Hikaru, Kakoyo, and Yuri had conspired to create a storm of plans aimed at easing Shuuta's stress and bringing a smile to his face. Their scheme involved taking Shuuta out on a date. Of course, Hikaru wasn't tagging along; the date was to be shared between Kakoyo and Yuri. The two engaged in a fierce game of paper-rock-scissors to decide, and the outcome was Yuri's victory. "He does seem happier," Hikaru noted, casting a glance back at Shuuta, who was in the midst of performing his thousandth katana swing. Each swing was a testament to his dedication, honing his technique under Kento's guidance and infusing his attacks with newfound power.

The night enveloped the city, casting a shroud of darkness upon the bustling street. Pedestrians hurried along, undeterred by the cold. The corners of the avenue echoed with animated chatter. Illumination flowed from ornate lamps, painting the entire street in a warm glow. Stalls were scattered across the area, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Amidst this scene, a young man with crimson hair found himself captivated by the ambiance, transported to feudal Japan. Guards adorned in Yukatas and armed with ancient katanas patrolled the area. The women, all dressed in a variety of Kimonos, added a touch of elegance with their diverse colors and shapes. Shuuta was keenly aware of the exquisite craftsmanship in their clothing, hinting at its luxurious quality and perhaps hefty price. Shuuta shook his head, reminding himself of his purpose. He wasn't here for leisure or shopping; he had a mission to accomplish.
39. It has begun.
Shuuta couldn't bear to hear Hanako's agonized screams without taking action. He felt an overwhelming sense of powerlessness washing over him as he sat on a cliff beneath the sheltering branches of an ancient birch tree. His back pressed against the gnarled trunk, he released a sigh laden with concern. Moonlight bathed the scene, casting reflections of his own sorrowful state. The haunting echoes of Hanako's cries seemed to reverberate within him, etching pain deep into his tumultuous soul. "His heart is faltering..." Kakoyo's gaze fell upon Shuuta from a distance, a silent observer of his turmoil. Unbidden tears welled up in her eyes. Hikaru, resting behind a tree, broke the silence with a somber tone. "What should we do? It pains me to see him like this... it's a stark reminder of my mother." Yuri's resolve shone through as she clenched her small fists against her chest. "We must be his pil

Shuuta readied himself, his eyes fixed on his father as he prepared to unleash his mana. "My son, I'll teach you a passive skill that can transform you into a formidable Mystic. As I mentioned, it makes you unpredictable and dangerous. [Sense Danger]. This skill can shift the balance of a battle significantly. And the best part? It's costless." Shuuta's ears perked up at this, his eyes sparkling as he exclaimed with a joyful tone, "Wait, it's free?! That's awesome!" Abaddon raised an eyebrow, his gaze focused on his son. "Why is he so thrilled?" He shrugged off the thought and continued inwardly. "Doesn't he realize the true price of a passive skill?" "Get ready, Shuuta. I'm about to flood you with Mana... just try not to pass out!" Abaddon ascended a few yards into the air, his intent sharp as he looked down at Shuuta. Shuuta paused, sensing the same overwhelming mana

"Hey… are you finished talking, or do you plan to keep entertaining me?" Shuuta exerted all his strength, deflecting the blow; the clash ignited sparks that illuminated their determined faces."Hey there, kid. It's been a while since I had a chance to greet someone. I was beginning to crave the taste of blood," the Fallen jeered in a sinister tone."Are you a Mystic? What brings you here? This is supposed to be Master Iho's domain," Shuuta inquired while sizing up his opponent."Huh? What nonsense are you spouting? This is Hiroyama's forgotten maximum-security prison, technically a dungeon that time left behind," the Fallen's eyes briefly clouded with sorrow before rage engulfed him, and he unleashed a powerful roar, his colossal sword shattering Shuuta's stance.

Hikaru's energy abruptly shifted, sending shivers down Shuuta's spine. A massive surge of mana congregated around Hikaru, catching Shuuta off guard. 'Didn't he mention having less mana than me?' While Shuura was technically right, there was more to it. "I'm about to unveil the results of my training, Shuuta." Hikaru's grin widened as he formed an 'X' with his crossed arms. Opening his palms, he released a wave of mana that pushed the tar monsters several meters back. Shuuta was prepared for impact, but the wave didn't harm him. "Huh? It didn't affect me." "It's not over yet! [Light Magic: Kingusunēku no su!]" Hikaru's command was followed by the formation of various luminous snakes that emerged from his back. One large serpent, imbued with a more ominous presence, stared menacingly at its surroundings from atop Hikaru's head. "Wow…incredible." Shuuta was left speechless
