It was not an easy transition. The next moment Caelion was in the throne hall of the underworld. The air changed next--and he was in a different place.

Colder. Lighter. Controlled. He didn’t move immediately. His body was different once more not like the underworld form, not like his own, either. Something in between. Stable, but fragile.

The voice of Nysera was faintly echoed in his mind. Temporary.

His eyes were opened by Caelion. He was in the entrance of a broad passage. The celestial realm. He knew it at a glance. White same stone walls. Same radiant lines cut in the floor. Same silent buzz of God-like vitality in all.

Something seemed amiss. Not the place. Him. Caelion looked down on his hands. Smaller. Lighter. No fractures. No dark veins.

Lioren Thale.

The disguise held. For now. He exhaled slowly. “Stay focused.”

Two inferior messengers of the gods hurried past him. One of them looked at him a moment. “You’re late.”

Caelion didn’t react immediately.

The second messenger followed, and said, “council meets today. Stand not about. Get to work.”

Caelion nodded once. “Understood.”

They past him. No suspicion. No recognition.

He waited another second, and began to walk.

Each step was a familiar one. Each turn brought him to mind.He knew this place.

But it didn’t feel like it belonged to him anymore.

Caelion was expressionless as he passed through the corridor.

“Lioren,” someone called.

He stopped. Turned. Some little official came up to him hastily, with a bunch of scrolls.

The official told him that he was to relay messages to the upper chamber. “Take these to the council hall.”

Caelion grabbed the scrolls. “Yes.”

The official did not ask him any more questions. Just shook his head and went away. Caelion glanced down at the scrolls. Then back ahead. The council hall. That meant…Them.

He didn’t stop. He kept walking. The nearer he came the more the air seemed to weigh down. More guards. More activity. More attention.

Caelion changed his stance a little, keeping pace with the other messengers coming in and out of the neighborhood.

Nobody paid any attention to him. That was good. That was to say the masquerade was working. He came to the entrance of the main hall. There were two guards on both sides.

One of them came forward. “Identify.”

Caelion didn’t hesitate. “Lioren Thale. Relay of messages.”

The guard examined the scrolls, and then looked back at him. A brief pause. Then a nod. “Proceed.”

Caelion stepped inside. The room was just as he remembered. Gods were already gathered. Some seated. Some standing. Everyone was silently talking. And then… He saw them. Seris Alune was close to one of the inner columns. No armor this time. No weapon. Calm. Composed. Conversation with another council member as though nothing had occurred.

As she hadn’t plunged a knife in his heart. Caelion hesitated half a moment. His hands clenched on the scrolls a little. Not shattered. Not even far.

She looked… normal. Not shaken. Not broken…Not even distant.

Just..Normal.

Caelion had to make another movement.

Concentrate, he said to himself.

He turned his head. And saw Eryndor. At the top of the hierarchy. Precisely where he ever stood. Expression calm. Eyes sharp. Watching everything. Not speaking. Just observing. Caelion knew it. That presence. That control. There was nothing that had changed about Eryndor. That was the issue.

Caelion looked down and went on. Step by step. No reaction. No recognition. Another messenger, just doing his job. He came to the main platform and laid the scrolls to rest with the rest.

The aide of a council looked at him. “Leave them there.”

Caelion nodded. “Yes.”

He turned. Walked away.

He came to the outer of the hall.Then..the Light changed. Almost out. Then ….the Light shifted. Caelion stopped. Not fully.

Just a little to be aware of. Moonlight. It ran through the high windows, slicing across the floor in a fine line.

He hadn’t noticed it before. It was all there now. In his path. Caelion changed his course a little. Too late. The edge of the light touched his hand. Pain hit instantly.

His breath caught. He looked down. His skin… It shifted. The illusion flickered. A momentarily dark veins began to show below the surface. Cracks. Faint But real. Caelion instantly withdrew his hand.

“No, no, “he said to himself.

He turned his back upon the light. The delusion became steady once more. But the harm was done. That was too close. He drew a long breath, and his breath was under control again.

“Careful, careless, careful, careful, “he thought to himself.

He round turned to see that he was alone. And stood still.A second.--Nothing.

Eryndor was there. Not too close. But enough. His head turned. Slowly. Directly toward him. Their eyes met. For a second… Nothing moved.

Caelion didn’t breathe.

Didn’t blink.Didn’t react. There was a sharpness of look in the eye of Eryndor.

Not recognition. Not yet.

But attention.

Too much attention. Caelion experienced it instantly. Danger. Then… Everything snapped. The world pulled.

Hard. Something seized him, and pulled him backwards through space itself. The light vanished. The room disappeared. The air changed furiously. And then… Silence. Darkness. The underworld. Caelion tripped over his body returning immediately.

The mask had disappeared.

The weight returned. The shadows swamped him. Now he stabilized himself, and breathed more harshly.

What was that? he said harshly.

No answer.

Then… A voice. Close. Too close.

“Careful, “said it.

Caelion turned immediately. No one was there. Nevertheless, the presence was. The voice continued. “There are two of us now.”

Caelion’s expression hardened. “Show yourself.”

The shadows didn’t move. The voice didn’t obey. It had one more thing to say.

“”Be careful and don’t get us killed.”

“You can’t fool me, Caelion,” Nysera flew around him while constantly avoided eye contact. “I know that look. They would hold each others hands and discuss like lovers behind closed doors. Seris had always longed for me but Caelion didn’t want her image to be ruined by going too far before marriage. The farthest they’ve gone in their relationship is a littleKiss on the lip and she was the one who initiated it even though Caelion was against it. He always saw Seris as the perfect soulmate because she was the type that loves to uphold justice and always fufild her duty.Seris was Caelion’s closest friend from childhood so he believed it was a match written by fate. He could never have imagined that the love of his life would team up with his supposed father to kill him. And for w

  • Bottle Up Inside

The murmurs in the celestial council hall was so loud, Lysithea could barely here herself trying to calm the chaos. It seems they haven’t had any meeting since the former occurrence. Lysithea decided they wouldn’t and thought it best it leave everyone for a while so they would calm down but clearly that plan was all in her head because all the inferior deities still had something to say.The anger on her face was evident that she was angry about something else this time. Selmira sat up there wuth drowsy eyes while Eryndor nonchalantly didn’t pay heed to their obvious criticisms about him.“Silence!” Kaedros roared. “Whoever utters a word that’s not sitting with the higher ranking gods will blame themself for not having another generation. Don’t make me mad.”Caelion was also present at this meeting but this main concern was with Eryndor. That expression on Eryndor’s face was priceless. No one could see it except him. He’s lived with him for so long so only him could tell when Eryndor

  • Deception

Herold rose up his head with a wide grin on his face. He glared at Caelion’s pathetic looking face but the more he looked at him, the less real Caelion looked.“Y-You nearly had me there,” Caelion began to laugh as he fell down on his feet while holding his stomach.Herold turned his gaze to the Caelion that was laughing beside Nysera and then the one gagging before him. The one in front of him had started to glitch and it suddenly turned into dark matter.“Your body is magic resistance, not your vision, my friend,” Caelion gagged while laughing out loud.Caelion had deceived Herold with a clone of himself but that doesn’t mean he escaped the attack. His stomach was sliced open but Herold’s hand didn’t drive through it.Caelion held his torn stomach with a satisfied grin on his face. “Not today. I’ve confirmed my curiosities.”Herold had started to get very angry and it was visible in his eyes. No one had ever gotten away or survived that move. Once he was in that position, it was alr

  • The deciding fight

Caelion looked to his left and his right with a straight face before exhaling softly. This isn’t too surprising to a god of his caliber. He’s seen things far worse than this. The gate was partially opened. It looked like an abandoned place. The smell of dried blood and infected guts was so bad they both had to cover their nose while walking into the temple. They opened up the gate and saw a Minotaur-like creature munching on a dead body while sitting on the head of a large wolf. Caelion felt shivers in his feet because that wolf looked exactly like the one who tormented him in this dream. He swallowed his saliva while thinking confidently. I was able to kill that wolf and so was he. Our strengths are not too far off.“Oh…gue-guast. No no no, guests,” he swallowed the organs of the wolf restricting him from speaking and wiped his bloody lips.As soon as Caelion saw his face clearly, his eyes went bright. “Him! Yes! It all makes sense now! It’s really him and— oh! How ironic.”Caelion b

  • You Just Got Played

“And I don’t have the right to ask of what that head would be used for?” Caelion asked with a scowl on his face.“No. Get the head and get your answers,” Haeris went inside and slammed his door.Caelion had thoughts of forcing himself into the room but he hesitated because Nysera was pulling on his arm and pleading not to do so.“I don’t know why I’ve got these freaks all around me. These beings that are greatly obsessed with the wrong thing. And they would do everything in their power to make those evil plans successful," Caelion vented with a look of disgust on his face.“He gave you quite a big task for your first visit even though he had some dirt on him. He outsmarted you. You shouldn’t have made that deal,” Nysera sighed.“What type of task did he give you in exchange for answers?”“A pair of magic jugs. Pretty light, is it?” Asked Nysera.“Very light, indeed. The stronger you are the heavier the task, maybe? Where can I find this Herod boar? Is it a creature or that’s just his

  • My Question

“God of wisdom? In this realm?” Caelion quizzed doubtfully. “It’s true. But he’s staying low-key because of Asmodeus. The logic of might has struck fear in the hearts of many gods. It’s so much that they can barely look him in the eyes while talking. From the look of things, Asmodeus might rule the underworld forever, there might never be a challenger to that seat,” Nysera sighed heavily. “And why are we heading to his place? Are there questions you need answers to?” Caelion asked while walking down a foggy hill.He remembered when he had that terrible ordeal at the realm of dreams. The rainy and foggy forest looked exactly like the path they threaded. “I should be asking you that question because we’re going there because of you. Don’t you have unanswered questions that you need for your mission?” Nysera asked.Caelion was surprised that Nysera was constantly thinking of him and his problems even though they never concerned her. She still doesn’t know what race she was from or th
