3. In the beginning (3)

Johan tried to pry his door open but it was stuck. His wife’s side was already crushed in by the truck so that was not an option. The only door that had a chance of opening was the door by his son’s side. He looked between his wife and son and thought of who to carry out first.

Carrying his wife out first, was going to take a lot’ of time before he could return to his son but carrying Mikael out first would give him the chance to focus on her when he came back.

The area they were in were residential areas where people lived in tall buildings that they call apartment, so no body was going to hear them and the road was empty except for his car.  The car that was following them was no longer behind them.

Johan climbed into the back seat opening the door. He sighed when the door opened.

Johan unstrapped Mikael from his car seat and slightly shook him to see if he was going to wake up. Beside Mikael at the back seat were the broken vials, the truck had crushed the vials during the accident and not even one was intact.

He searched his bag and took out the flash drive, tucking it into Mikael’s pants, he now carried the boy out of the car. He walked slightly far from their car and placed him on the walkway.

“Mikael…Mikael… wake up!,” he shook the boy but to no avail.  Leaving him behind, he went back inside the car to help his wife out, since he couldn’t pry her side door opened, he was going to carry her through the back.

Johan took a deep breath and put his two hands under her shoulders and pulled. She was heavy and that much was obvious. He paused to catch his breath perceiving the smell of leaking gas.

Alarmed, “Shit!. Lisa wake up please…”, he cried shaking her shoulders.

As if she heard her name, Lisa stirred,  opening her eyes. She groaned as she wiped her eyes into focus staring up at him.

“honey…”, she called placing  her right  palm on the side of his face. Johan choked a cry kissing his wife on her forehead.

She remembered her son in a panic and she looked around the car, “ where’s Mikael?”, she asked.

“He’s safe outside of the car, I just need to pull you out of the car.” He told her.

She nodded and started assisting to pull herself out of the car. On the outside, something sparked and caused an explosion with Johan and Lisa still inside the car.

Johan lost his footing and hit his head on the opened suitcase while Lisa started shouting, calling his name. The explosion had caused her legs to be stuck under the head board of the car.

Lisa started crying , so this was the last time she was going to see her son.

She saw Johan lying unconsciously and his head oozing out blood from the side. She couldn’t move, she could only watch the car as it was ablaze.

The heat was enough to roast anyone who was close by. She heard a car sound that  close to them. Lisa Gingerly turned her head towards the sound to see that same car that has been following them before the accident.

She saw one man step out of the car carrying a MI34 gun and started walking over to them.

Lisa started trashing, she shook her husband so he would wake up as she tried to free herself but was still stuck. When the man got closer, she closed her eyes pretending to be unconscious, maybe that would help them.

The man approached peering into the car, Lisa heard the gun click and threw her eyes opened. She only made out a scar across his left eyes before the man emptied a bullet into her head.

The man turned to her husband and shot him at the back of his head. He looked inside the burning car but couldn’t find their son. The instruction was to retrieve the research materials and vials as well as  kill everybody in the car, son included but he was no where to be found. He tried to reach for the research material and the vials only to see that the entire car was on fire.

“damn!”, he shouted.

The truck had come out of nowhere and collided into the car. He has been following them and had planned to intercept them after the T junction.

The record files and vials were beyond recovery so he hurried back into his car. The moment he was in a safe distance, the car exploded, this time bringing the entire car down, the contents of the vial must have caused this last explosion. He entered into his car and drove away.

Meanwhile Mikael was still unconscious and lying down where his father had kept him unharmed except for the gash wound on his forehead.

A boy who heard the explosion had come out of his house to check out the cause but only saw a burning car. He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed the emergency number informing them of the explosion.

Many people started coming out of their homes to see what was going on. They tried to stop the fire but the more they tried, the more it intensified.

The boy turned to walk back into his house before his father would return to find him outside the house when he heard a whimper. The Cry was very small that it took him going closer to the sound to hear it.

He saw a boy, about three to four years old sitting on the ground and looking scared. He was holding a book in his hand , one that was too big for him to be holding.

“Hey…”, the boy called lowering himself to the ground.

Mikael immediately threw his arms around the stranger. He was scared and didn’t know what he was doing there. He couldn’t even remember how he got there. Mikael held on to the boy’s shoulders tight that even when the boy tried to pry Mikael’s hands away from his neck, Mikael refused.

The boy sighed, he stood to his feet with Mikael in his arms.  he waited for the emergency ambulance and police car to arrive.

While waiting, “What is your name?” , the boy asked Mikael.

Mikael thought hard and the only name he could remember was Johan.

“Johan…”, he whispered.

The boy nodded, “ You’ll be fine Johan, help is on the way…”, he told the little boy in his arms who was still Clinging to him like a life line and had refused to let go.

Help was coming.
