VOLUME 1 PROLOGUE

It all started three years ago, everything was normal. People went to work and students went to school, unaware of the disaster that was headed their way.

At the root of it all was an illegal breeding center, known for producing rare and dangerous canines. Shielded by the mafias, they flourished undetected for years. Yet, in a humorous twist of faith, nature pulled its own practical joke. One of their dogs became infected with a peculiar strain of rabies, or so the people liked to believe.

Regular rabies typically results in fever, difficulty in swallowing, excessive drooling, staggering, seizures, and paralysis leading to death. However, this unique variety of rabies causes aggressive behavior, altered perception, and enhanced physical abilities.

And just to clarify, when they refer to enhanced physical abilities, they don’t mean infected individuals will suddenly gain superhero-like strength to lift yachts while casually enjoying ice cream. Instead, it simply means that rabies will magnify their already existing physical abilities.

Imagine this: someone who can barely walk without getting winded due to their obesity won’t magically possess the speed of a soccer player. However, if the infected person happened to be a former professional boxer with twelve world titles under his belt, watch out, because he will transform into an absolute powerhouse.

Getting infected with it is like a twisted leveling-up experience that exacts the toll of your sanity. This savage illness spares no one, impacting both animals and humans alike, infiltrating the very essence of life with every breath it captures.

Everyone got infected in the breeding center—both humans and animals. Those brave enough to attempt to capture them were met with a grim destiny, either torn apart or narrowly escaping with limbs barely intact. Yet, those who managed to escape were doomed. Within 48 hours, their identities slipped away, their humanity forgotten. No longer recognizing themselves as humans, they mercilessly assaulted all they encountered. This unyielding onslaught infected more unfortunate souls and claimed countless lives.

As the rabies became widespread, chaos and panic ensued, social order broke down, and that led us to now, three years after.

The infected were no longer just sick; they were now called zombies. They became outcasts, like a spreading disease, avoided like a plague. People had to switch into survival mode as everything fell apart. The government collapsed because, as it turned out, not everything goes as planned in real life, unlike in the movies.

No mobile phone signal or internet connectivity. Only radios remained as it functioned on satellites.

Food became scarce since the farming industry stopped operating.

But this story isn’t about society's collapse. It’s about Finn, a 23-year-old guy who got attacked by a zombie while trying to break into a mall for food. Somehow, he survived. He’s not really human anymore or fully a zombie, but he’s slowly getting his sanity back over time. It shouldn’t have happened, but it did.
