POV; the talisman.

Fatima survey the school ground. It was more like a fortress, evidently the kedrans didn't care about art, she didn't see any since she arrived.

They were cold logical creatures, and it reflected in their architecture.

"She expected the advisor to give her a tour of the school but he had been immersed in a holographic call.

The kedrans were shattered evenly across the grounds, though Fatima didn't see any students.

"They weren't much different from humans except for their blazing white hair, uniform, hazel eyes and tall proportions.

They were an advanced race though and had a perfected space travel before humans and found fire.

They had conquered much of the milky way but found close kin in humans, after wiping out 70% of the population, they made the rest subservient. Fatima was glad that Mama did not live long to see the abomination, she was one of the lucky once that died from natural causes.

Her brother, Hassan was wiped out along with others, she had not even seen his body. The pain she felt from his death had made her passed out only to find herself hospitalized when she awake.

The doctor had told her that her right leg was now damaged and had to be operated on.

Weirdly she saw a kedran official around her bedside talking in a harsh with the doctor.

She had recovered quickly though her walking gait had changed slightly and the pain grew worse when she walked long distances.

For reasons not known to her, some kedran soldiers their house and told her father that they have been assigned to their home planet to serve the federation better.

Now, many leagues from home, she felt alienated from her family and friends.

Papa was all she had now but he had been acting strangely lately, his insistence for her to address him in the kedrans way was funny.

They had other humans who had the translator chip inserted in them during the medicals when they arrived newly.

This made communication easier as the chip helped their brain in translating the kedrish language.

“Good luck with your studies, unfortunately I won't be able to join you, I'm needed at the royal court urgently so try not cause any trouble.

The royal advisor hurriedly said, patting her on black while glancing at the projected hologram suspended in the air.

‘so you're just going to dump me here?” Remember you're the reason I'm here in the first place, she said.

"Papa would have slapped okra seeds from her mouth as he used to threaten if he saw her taking to a kedran like this but she was past caring.

“Tell me, little girl, how old are you?.

His question threw her off-balance but she regain her composure.

‘sixteen, why?

‘you’re still young, so listen, keep your tongue in check, there are some here that will kill you if you look at them the way you're looking at me now, I've faith in you, that's why i brought you here.

"He said as he looked at her with a fatherly gaze.

“But I'm not special, I wasn't even good at school, she said, now convince that he was wasting his time.

“Nonsense, you're more than average, you just don't have the zeal. Besides it's not that kind of school.

“What kind is it then? She asked now interested.

You will see in the meantime, work hard to earn you spot here, you can be expelled at anytime, I have something for you, he said, reaching into his robes.

“I believe this is yours; he said as he held out a brown talisman to her.

It was hers; Mama had given it to her just before she died.

"She had lost it when she passed out after Hassan death and thought it was gone forever.

She opened her mouth to thank him, but he brushed it off.

“Go to the left wing of the building, on the second floor, that will be first floor in your silly human vocabulary, we kedrans starts counting from the ground floor.

"you'll see a door with a serpent doorhandle that leads to a reception hall, you'll see other students there, that will be all then.

He strode around the ground surprisedly quickly for a man his age and teleported with a swish of his cloak.

A privilege reserved for the elite of the federation.

She watched him go, uncertain if she could trust him, there were many unknown factors, she will have to be on her guard here. She claimed the stairs in search of her class.

The classes were all arranged to resemble an ellipse, there were other ingenious engineering design that could keep a human engineer enthralled for centuries but she wasn't in a tourist mood.
