"Boss, all I’m asking for is your permission to teach that lunatic a lesson," Kubus said into the phone, his teeth grinding.
A loud thud sounded on the other end. Kubus, worried, asked, "Boss, are you alright?"
Then a furious roar blasted through the receiver, "Just shut up! Let me think! Can't you see I'm completely losing it?" The man paused for a few seconds, then continued, "Do whatever he tells you, do you understand? Fucking do it! That's all for now. Goodbye." Innocent abruptly ended the call.
Kubus was shell-shocked. He couldn't remember a time when Innocent, his boss, had ever sounded so terrified and helpless. He couldn’t stop himself from calling back. "Boss, are you making a mistake? He's just some idiot married into the Walter family."
Innocent cut him off immediately. "Do you want to get yourself killed? Just do everything he tells you if you want to see the sun set tomorrow. And please, do not call this number again." The line went dead.
Kubus stood there, stunned. When he finally regained his senses, he realized he was shaking and sweating uncontrollably.
At that moment, Deborah stepped forward, holding a stack of files. A confident smile was plastered on her face. "Kubus, I’ve made the payment. All that’s left is for you to sign the necessary documents, and the deal will be sealed. I’d like to celebrate my birthday in the new house, and my birthday is in two days."
Kubus glared at her. "You said you had nothing to do with those people, huh?"
Deborah nodded, radiating self-assurance.
"Now you can leave," he snapped, giving her a brutal look.
"But Kubus, I need you to confirm my one million dollar payment, and you need to sign the property over to..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Kubus delivered a sudden, hard slap across her face. Deborah's cheek immediately turned bright red.
The unexpected violence shocked everyone. The powerful slap made Deborah stagger, and her delicate cheek instantly swelled up. She covered her mouth in disbelief. Tears welled up as she cried, demanding that Kubus refund her money immediately, or else...
"Or else what?" Kubus demanded. With that, he grabbed her arm and dragged her roughly out of his office.
Khloe instinctively tugged on Quincy's sleeve, whispering nervously, "Quincy, let’s go..."
Before Quincy could reply, Kubus strode over to him. Khloe had never been so terrified; she was trembling and breathing rapidly. To her utter astonishment, Kubus dropped into a ninety-degree bow and said in a shaky voice, "Mr. Stone, please, I am profoundly sorry for my terrible behavior. Please find it in your heart to forgive me."
What just happened? Khloe was completely bewildered. Kubus was like a different person after that phone call.
"So, are we signing the necessary documents for the land?" Quincy asked, completely unfazed by Kubus's sudden change in mood and behavior. Clearly, Scot had handled the situation.
Kubus nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes! Of course, yes. I will make it happen immediately." Khloe couldn't piece together what had occurred. She kept glancing at Quincy, wondering if he had done something to the man.
Meanwhile, in a sprawling mansion somewhere else in the city, the notorious Innocent Chim was on his knees before a tall man in a sharp suit.
"Innocent, credit where it's due," the man, Scot, said coldly. "It seems you aren't completely stupid. If anything had happened to my boss, you'd be locked up behind bars forever."
"Thank you for your mercy, Chief Commander," Innocent breathed a sigh of relief, having escaped punishment. He bowed low and pleaded, "I had no idea that the God of War himself was in the Gatto Republic and that my men got into a conflict with him. With all due respect, I beg to host a feast for the God of War to make up for my boy's mistake?"
"I will certainly deliver your message," Scot replied.
"Thank you, Chief Commander!"
Lily Court was an old district in the Gatto Republic where Khloe and her parents' run-down house was located. The sky was dark when Khloe and Quincy returned.
As they approached the entrance, her parents immediately rushed out.
"Khloe dear, are you alright? Did that gangster hurt you?"
Khloe tied her hair into a ponytail and replied, "Mommy, I'm perfectly fine. Thanks to Quincy, we were able to get the property back." She looked fondly at Quincy.
"What did he do? You actually think this idiot can accomplish anything right?" Kimberly cast an annoyed glance at Quincy and quickly explained, "After you left, Charles became so restless, worried about your safety. He decided to call Kubus and help out."
It was Charles? Khloe was slightly surprised to hear her mother say this. Quincy subtly narrowed his eyes.
"Charles even suggested we go out for dinner, and maybe he’ll make things official. You are not going to refuse him." Kimberly grabbed Khloe's hand and pulled her toward the stairs. Khloe kept looking back at Quincy.
"If I go out tonight, what about Ashley?" Khloe asked softly.
Her dad, Hector Walter, said with a beaming smile, "Ashley will go to Sara’s. We already discussed it, and she agreed to babysit her tonight."
Khloe looked at Quincy with a troubled expression and asked, "And Quincy?"
"Stop worrying about this ex-husband of yours. Everything ends tonight," her mother declared.
Quincy frowned.
"Quincy, what is that look on your face? Get the hell out of my house. You are not welcome here anymore," Khloe’s father bellowed in displeasure.
Just then, a sleek Land Rover pulled up in front of their house. A slender, beautiful blonde woman stepped out—it was Penelope, Khloe's friend.
"Hey everyone, where's Khloe? Charles told me to pick you guys up. And how's my little kitten, Ashley, doing?" Penelope turned and spotted Quincy, which instantly made her angry. "Quincy? What are you still doing hanging around Khloe? Charles is going to propose tonight! Aren't you ashamed to still be here? If you were a real man, you’d stay away from her and let her pursue a better life with Charles."
"Charles is next in line to inherit his family business. His father, Rodger Hill, is the chairman of the city's biggest construction company. Charles can give Khloe a good, luxurious life. Look at you—other than pain and agony, what can you give Khloe?" Kim nodded in strong agreement.
Quincy simply and gently replied, "Penelope, what I can give Khloe is far beyond anything a commoner like you could ever imagine."

AT THE RESTAURANT
Sonia stared across the table at Deborah, the expensive crystal glass of water suddenly feeling heavy in her hand. The restaurant, though almost empty, seemed to amplify the silence hanging between them. Trail and monitor Vincent. You have just two months. I will pay you any amount of your choice. On one side, a whopping five million dollars had already landed in her bank account from Vincent to spy on Deborah. On the other, Deborah, eyes glinting with a dangerous mix of desperation and malice, was offering an open cheque to spy on Vincent. This is a crossroad for Sonia, she thought, the cliché ringing true in the dizzying reality of her situation. She wasn't just entangled; she was standing in the middle of a high-stakes, two-sided war, and both generals wanted her as their mole."Any amount of your choice, Sonia. Name it," Deborah pressed, her voice a low, urgent whisper that sliced through the restaurant's quiet ambiance. "And I assure you, it will be more than enough to make you f
TRAPPPED
The moment Sonia stepped out of Vincent’s sleek black car, her breath caught. This wasn’t just a house; it was a fortress of glass and stone, sitting high on a hill overlooking the city lights. It was beautiful, yes, but it felt cold, too—like a golden cage.Vincent wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close as they walked up the wide, illuminated steps. “Welcome home, baby,” he murmured, his voice rich and satisfied. In her mind, Sonia still worried about Deborah. That image of Deborah peeking through her window, followed by the instant, sharp text: "Don’t play with me." It was a threat, a promise of trouble, and it was hard to shake.Inside, the house was huge and empty. White marble floors stretched out under high ceilings. Everything looked expensive, but nothing looked warm or lived in.Vincent stopped in the hallway. He turned her to face him, his hands resting on her shoulders. He noticed the serious look on her face, the way her eyes kept darting around instead of set
A HOME FOR SONIA
That hit Sonia hard. She desperately needed the money. Vincent treated her terribly, with no respect at all, calling her a slut. But he paid her very well—huge amounts of dollars landed in her bank account after she "served" him. As for Deborah, she had been cruel to Sonia years ago.Sonia was confused and needed time to decide, but time was running out. “Sonia, take my offer and enjoy life without having to sell your body,” Deborah’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.“I need time to think about this,” Sonia replied. She didn't want to rush such a big decision. However, Deborah didn’t have the patience to wait.“Look, Sonia, just watch what Vincent does and tell me about it every day. You won’t be doing it alone—I’m also going to hire a private investigator to help,” Deborah assured her. That sounded much better, and because of the offered help, Sonia agreed to spy on Vincent.“When he comes around, ask him questions and be curious,” Deborah added.Sonia accepted the job, but she

A lot of stuffs are at stake here and she must tread carefully. For her to get Sonia on her side, she will have to detail her plans to her, both the evil and good ones, if there are good ones. And the risk is revealing her plans to Sonia, not knowing if she will agree to her plans. “She now gets a lot of money from Vincent and thus will not agree to work against her major source of income,” Deborah assumed. After pondering on the right step to take and still couldn’t figure anything tangible thing out, Deborah wet ahead and called Sonia.“Hello, and please be fast. Maybe life gave to you what you wanted to give your sister Khloe,” Sonia smiled and continued.“I missed Quincy but getting Vincent wasn’t a bit hard, I cross my heart, I didn’t tell him to abandon you.
