Draven wiped the blood off his arm and winced.

“Those Aura-hounds… damn. At least I got something out of it.”

A soft chime rang in his head.

<< Skin Refining: 6/13 >>

Draven let out a shaky laugh. “Yeah, yeah. Small wins. I’ll take it.”

Not long after, an Aura-charged storm hit him. The wind carried sharp, burning sand that stung every part of his skin.

He ducked under a broken billboard, teeth clenched. “This storm feels like it’s trying to peel my skin off!”

Another chime echoed.

<< Skin Refining: 7/13 >>

Draven stood and forced himself back onto the road. His body hurt, but his eyes were sharper now.

“I’m not walking like a scared scavenger anymore,” he muttered. “Feels like… I’m starting to hunt. Alright, world show me the next nightmare.”

He walked for hours through heavy Aura-filled air. It felt thick like pushing through warm fog. Then he stopped in his tracks.

“Whoa…”

The Serpent Mound lay in front of him huge, glowing softly, like a massive creature curled across the land. The old archaeological site looked nothing like the photos he remembered. It felt ancient… alive.

The trees were taller. The air warmer. Every breath tasted thick and sweet.

Draven stepped forward. The Aura pressed against his skin like warm water.

“It’s like walking through honey,” he whispered. “No wonder people come here to get stronger.”

A sharp chime sounded.

[Alert: High-Density Aura Zone. Cultivation speed increased by 300%.]

Draven’s eyes widened. “Three hundred percent? Now we’re talking.”

He clenched his fists, excitement buzzing under his skin.

“Alright, Serpent Mound,” Draven said with a grin. “Show me what you’ve got.”

He walked along the glowing mound until he spotted a narrow crack at the base of the serpent’s “head.”

“A hiding spot… perfect,” he whispered.

He squeezed inside, sat down, and closed his eyes.

“Time to start growing for real.”

For days, Draven did nothing but pull in the thick Aura around him. It rushed through his body like hot smoke. His skin burned, split, then slowly healed again each time harder and tougher than before.

A soft chime echoed in his mind.

<< Skin Refining: 9/13 >>

Draven exhaled. “Good… keep going.”

More Aura surged into him. His senses stretched outward until he felt faint pulses—tiny sparks—from the plants outside the crevice.

“I can feel them,” he whispered, amazed. “The plants… they’re alive in a way I never noticed.”

Another chime.

<< Skin Refining: 10/13 >>

Draven opened his eyes and let out a slow breath. “Almost there… just a little more.”

Then the ground rumbled.

Pebbles rolled across the dirt. Draven froze.

“…That’s not good.”

A shape pushed out of the trees.

A massive beast, a Stone-Tusked Boar, easily the size of a minivan stepped into view. Its hide looked like cracked granite, and its huge tusks glowed with a faint brown Aura.

Draven swallowed hard. “Great. An actual Aura Beast. Just what I needed.”

The boar snorted loudly, the sound like rocks grinding together. Its huge stone-like tusks glowed faintly as it lowered its head.

“So you’re the guardian of this place,” Draven muttered, slowly rising to his feet. “And you found me.”

The beast scraped its hooves against the ground, ready to charge.

Draven clenched his fists. “Alright then… let’s see if I’m ready.”

The giant boar stomped once. Twice. The ground shook. Every instinct in Draven’s body screamed at him to run.

“No,” he told himself firmly. “Not this time. I’m fighting to refine, not escape.”

The boar charged, tearing the earth apart with its tusks. Draven braced himself.

“Come on! Hit me!”

WHAM.

The impact smashed into him like a truck. His bones shook, his breath exploded out of his chest, and he tasted blood but he stayed standing.

He gritted his teeth and pulled more of the thick Serpent Mound Aura into his skin.

“Refine… refine… push it!”

The beast spun around and charged again.

WHAM.

Draven stumbled, vision blurring. His Vital Aura drained fast, leaving him weak and lightheaded.

“This hurts like hell,” he spat, forcing himself upright. “But I need that last step!”

He focused everything he had pain, fear, Aura, rage into a single point.

“Perfect refinement… come ON!”

The boar roared and thundered toward him one final time.

Draven planted his feet and pushed past every limit he had ever known. Aura spun around him in a bright spiral of light.

“I’m not breaking…” he growled. “YOU break!”

CRASH.

The impact hit even harder than before but this time something inside Draven cracked open, like a shell splitting apart.

A sharp chime echoed in his head.

[Skin Refining: 13/13 – Perfected!]

Draven blinked in shock. “Did I… did I actually do it?”

Another message appeared:

[Congratulations, Host. You have achieved Perfected Skin Refining. Your foundation is flawless.]

Then:

[Ability Granted: Adamant Hide.]

Draven let out a shaky laugh. “Adamant Hide? Oh yeah… now we’re talking.”

A warm wave of power rushed through him, almost knocking the breath from his chest. Suddenly, the world lit up bright lines and colors wrapped around every tree, rock, and creature like glowing threads.

“Aura Sight…” he whispered. “I can actually *see* Aura.”

The Stone-Tusked Boar roared loudly and charged again, refusing to give up.

Draven rolled his shoulders. “Alright, big guy. My turn.”

He activated ADAMANT HIDE. His skin hardened instantly, turning into tough, living armor. Aura gathered around his fist like a thick cloud.

“Let’s finish this.”

As the boar lunged, Draven stepped forward and threw one clean punch. His Aura-packed fist, harder than steel, slammed into the beast’s skull.

CRACK.

The giant creature fell immediately, collapsing like a broken boulder.

Draven exhaled slowly. “Yeah… that definitely felt different.”

He stood over the fallen monster, steam rising from his skin, smooth, unbroken, stronger than ever. For the first time, he felt it deep inside:

“I’m not just starting anymore,” he whispered. “I’ve perfected the first step.”

The world felt smaller now. The road ahead, bigger beasts, powerful Awakened, even Ancient Families it all seemed possible.

He knelt beside the boar and reached into its chest. His fingers closed around something warm and pulsing. He pulled it out.

A glowing earth colored core.

“So this is a Stone-Tusked Boar core…” Draven murmured.

A chime rang in his mind.

[Low-tier Earth Core detected. Suitable for cultivation or trade.]

Draven smirked. “Trade? Nah. I’ll take the boost.”

He pressed the core to his chest. The Aura sank into him like hot water.

[Earth Core (Low-Tier) Absorbed.]

[+150 Aura Points.]

[Earth Affinity Slightly Enhanced.]

A thick, gritty force surged through his body, racing along his meridians.

Draven gasped. “Whoa… that’s strong.”

The power settled inside him, reinforcing everything he’d gained from Perfected Skin Refining.

His limbs felt heavier in a solid, comforting way like the ground itself was holding him up.

His ADAMANT HIDE hummed with new strength, and the faint copper color of his skin shifted into a light stone-like shade.

Draven flexed his fingers. “So this is earth Aura… solid, steady, stubborn.”

He smirked. “Yeah. I could get used to this.”

The Heart of the Tide – Draven’s LawDraven and Omega moved through the chaos like a single devastating force. Omega would phase ahead, passing through the creatures. Beasts would simply collapse, sliced apart by invisible distortions in reality.Draven moved carefully. He did not unleash grand displays of power. He made small, precise changes.A charging brute with hide like stone found itself brittle as chalk. A single hammer strike from Goran destroyed it completely. Flying stingers dove at him. Draven changed the air in front of them into solid glass. They collided and exploded. He conserved his Core's energy, using precision over power. He was searching for the thread that held this tide together."There," Omega said, pointing with a spectral finger. At the center of the mass, a four-armed hulking monstrosity acted as a conductor. Its chest pulsed with the same rhythmic light as the distant Engine. It was the local relay, amplifying the Engine's directive."Cut the signal," Drave

  • THE ANSWER – THE TIDE STRIKES 1

The quiet did not last long. The moment Draven erased the Engine's probe, the Crucible's long-range sensors went wild. Across the Wastes, the usual slow corruption recoiled like it had been stung, then surged forward like a wave breaking on the shore. It was not an attack. It was not a choice. It was a reaction. A reflex from a system that did not understand him.In the Oculus, the screens lit up in rapid bursts."Beast tide!" Selene shouted, her fingers moving across the console like a blur. "It is massive. Converging from three directions. They are not wandering. They are being herded. This is intentional."On the displays, blotches of sickly violet light crawled and swirled together. Insects the size of dogs, hulking brutes, multi-limbed horrors, and shapes too twisted to name all moved as one. Their movement was unnatural, coordinated, almost intelligent."The Engine did not like your answer," Omega said, stepping beside Draven. "It is sending a clearer question. One it expects us

  • GOLDEN CORE

Far to the north, in the Dead Glaciers, the inverted World-Cradle Engine pulsed. Its next rhythm was different. The central, heart-like orb of obsidian and violet light gave a sudden, hard thump. The wave of corrupt energy that rolled out was sharper, more focused. It wasn't broadcasting general decay. It was scanning.A beam of sickly light, thin as a laser, shot from the apex of the structure. It lanced across the continent, not spreading, but searching. It passed over mountains and wastes, drawn like a needle to a magnet. It touched the geomantic field of the Crucible’s Forge. In the Oculus, the main display flared with a violent, invasive violet light. A new, piercing signal screamed across every frequency.“The Engine!” Selene shouted. “It’s probing us! It felt the ripple!”The beam of corrupt energy scraped against their defensive field. The Unyielding towers along the border glowed red-hot as they resisted, forcing the probing energy to diffuse and shatter. But it was a probe.

  • THE EYE OF THE STORM

The atmosphere inside the Crucible was thick. Everyone knew what was about to happen. Tomorrow, Draven would leave for the Sanctum to form his Golden Core. The air felt charged, like the moment before lightning strikes. In the Oculus, the final briefing was short.“I’ll be gone for a week, maybe two,” Draven said. “The Sanctum will seal itself. No one gets in, no one gets out until it’s done.”“What do we do if something happens?” Fen asked, shifting nervously. “I mean, besides the obvious ‘hold the line until you get back’ part.”“You follow the protocols,” Draven replied. “Goran commands the defenses. Selene runs intelligence. Kaela handles scouts and quick response. Omega… you watch the horizon. If the Spire or the Waste Lords get brave, you know what to do.”Omega gave a slow, sure nod. “I will make them regret their curiosity.”“And what about… the other thing?” Kaela asked quietly. “The Engine. Its heartbeat hasn’t changed. What if it notices you?”Draven looked at the main disp
