Quinn had sorted the first stage.
Now for the second back up plan, he needed to get ready for the upcoming storm. “Hello James. I might need your help again. I need to buy another house, and I want you to keep this confidential. The house should be situated on high ground with a very sturdy ground base. A foundation that can withstand even the strongest of floods.” Quinn explained. He wasn't even sure such a place existed but he had to try his luck. “Oh! There's a place that was built recently and we have tested the whole area. It matches your exact description. The place available right now is the pent house at the highest level.” “I'd buy that.” “But it's a lot more expensive than the first.” James tried to warn me, but then he saw the credit alert of twenty million. “Thank you Sir Quinn, but the actual amount is fifteen million.” James looked at his phone again Quinn had sent him the details of a bank account. “I'd be expecting a refund of the remaining amount. Thank you for your time James. I'd love for you to forward the address to me and I'd be stopping by the company to take the key.” Quinn said. “Yes Sir. I'd be waiting.” James nodded his head. This has to be the luckiest day for him. Selling that penthouse would give him a lot of bonus. Now he could take his wife and children out to a top star restaurant. He couldn't help but day dream about his new life. But there was a ringing alarm in his head. “Maybe I should take his advice and stockpile like he said.” James thought and then he made the decision. It wouldn't hurt if he stockpiled, just like this man said. Quinn sighed. He had gotten the house. Now his second plan was in motion. The whole fear of the apocalypse wasn't the ice age, or the massive storms or even the floods. What he was truly afraid of was the monsters. “There was a rumour of man eating beasts roaming the outskirts. I was never able to find out the truth but right now, I can't take any chances.” Then his phone screen flashed. Seeing the number of the phone made a sneer appear on his lips. “Quinn you bastard. You haven't been to work for three days? Is this how you treat me after I have been helpful to you?” His boss yelled into his ears. The man in question was a fat man who cared nothing about his employees and was obsessed with over-working them till the end of their life. “Remember when you accused me of theft and held my salary for two months?” Quinn spoke with a low tone. Every single person who treated him like trash was going to regret their actions. This was just the beginning. “What are you talking about you fool? You stole the money and faced the consequences. Come back to work in this instance or I wouldn't hesitate to take another monthly salary.” The fat man chuckled at the other end of the phone. Quinn frowned, “I quit.” He said, ending the call instantly. He had gotten rid of the next parasite. In the house of the Rodriguez, Lisa had just walked in and she was met with the curious gaze of her family. “We know you went to his place.” The person who spoke was her father, Donald. “Tell us, did he really have a house?” Annoyed at the sudden intrusion, Lisa side stepped him and stepped further into the building. But she was stopped by her mother. “Talk to us, Lisa. And confirm if the rumor is true.” Lisa sighed, and then she slumped back on a chair. “Yes, I went to the house everyone said was owned by him. They were right. Quinn had gotten his hands on some money.” Lisa explained. She didn't want her family to know that she knew the source of his money. “That's not possible. We all know how hard he works, and even where he works. What would he have done to get such an amount?” The person who had spoken was Harold. He had just walked in with his bandaged hand. Donald sat opposite his daughter, “And he refused to look at you? I thought you had him wrapped around your little finger?” It was then that Lisa realised that her parents didn't know what Quinn had sent her divorce papers. “We are getting divorced. He asked for it.” Lisa said, moving her fingers through her hair. “How is that possible? Did he find out that the child wasn't yours?” Esther raised a brow. Yes they all knew but it was much cheaper to keep a slave like Quinn around than to let him go so easily. The only thing Lisa didn't tell them was the amount of fortune the man had in his name. She had wanted to ditch them and spend it with Zachary. “He doesn't have proof, but he knows and it would be easy to use the court to make me get a DNA test.” Lisa explained, exactly like Zachary had told her. She needed to find another way, in order to get the money of that annoying husband of hers. However, someone was uninterested in the meeting. He was hatching his own place. Harold narrowed his gaze. That scum of a man would pay dearly for breaking his wrist. The news on the television quickly changed and a new anchor pointed to the image of a weather report. “There will be a typhoon tomorrow, every citizen is advised to stay indoors as this would be the typhoon's route.”Latest Chapter
CHAPTER 14
Quinn had spent days in front of the weather monitor, tracking the storm city by city across the tri-state area. He barely slept at all and he had already gone through more than a dozen sachets of instant coffee. He was looking for deviations from his previous life, and so far the news was good. Almost every major city had flooded, and the storm had killed more than a few people, but the government had thrown together drainage systems under pressure, and as the storm lost strength the numbers improved by the day. People were still told to stay indoors, though the odds of being swept away by the flood outside were much lower now. His shelter sat on elevated ground and was more or less safe from the water."It'll be over in a few days," he told Emily. She was perched on the arm of the couch, eating white bread he'd pulled out of his spatial storage that morning. "But you said it will comes back."He had given her his predictions, the ones he could explain without explaining how he knew
CHAPTER 13
Quinn sat in the den, staring at the television. The backup generator was running through the storm as planned. He leaned back into the couch and rubbed his eyes.He had a lot of explaining to do, and he no idea how to start. How do you tell someone you've already lived through the end of the world? That in another life, you ignored her call, and by the time you understood what it meant, she was gone?Twenty minutes had passed since Emily went into the bathroom. He was starting to wonder if she'd fallen asleep in there when he heard her footsteps. She came in wearing a loose shirt and the sweatpants he'd found in the guest room, rubbing her damp hair with a towel."Tea?" he asked."Please."He went to the kitchen and filled the kettle. He'd stocked enough for months: tea, coffee, bottled water, instant meals stacked in neat rows. Emily sat on the couch and watched him as he prepared it."Are you going to tell me what's going on now?""Yes.""Good. Because I'm still trying to understan
CHAPTER 12
Quinn waited in his car as the wind blew violently around him. The truck rocked slightly with every powerful gust, and the trees lining the road bent under the force of the storm. Emily was five minutes away, if the GPS location she shared with him was correct. The rain was already slapping roughly against the windshield, running down the glass in thick streams, and he could barely see more than a couple of feet ahead of him.He left the headlights on and the passenger-side door unlocked so she'd be able to find him easily, but he was starting to feel uneasy.Emily was a petite woman, and while he knew it was unrealistic, he feared she'd be blown away by the winds. Two more minutes... If she's not here by then, I'll be forced to go look for her, he thought to himself, determined not to lose her this time around. He counted down the seconds, his heart beating faster with worry as the numbers got lower. Every few seconds, he glanced at the side mirrors, hoping to catch a glimpse of her
CHAPTER 11
Quinn got into his shelter and locked it down. He hoped Mr. Benson would get to safety before the storm hit.For a moment, he simply sat there. The smile on his face remained, but his mind was already racing. In his previous life, the first major disaster had been predictable. The false typhoon warning then he real storm followed by the collapse of the power grid and the major flooding... then everything else.He remembered the sequence so clearly because of the unique trauma each event had arrived it and using that map, he had treated the future like a schedule. But now that confidence was gone. The storm changing courses meant that the future was no longer set on stoneQuinn pulled out his phone and opened the notes application. He created a new folder and started typing.[Things I Remember.]Under it, he created another.[Things That Have Changed.]He stared at the screen for a few seconds before typing.[Storm path changed... possibly because of my actions.]Quinn leaned back and
CHAPTER 10
You ruined my reputation Quinn!" Lisa had tears in her eyes as she yelled at Quinn.Quinn was already used to her manipulation tactics from his previous life and nothing could redeem her from the evil her and her family did to him."You planned to destroy me Lisa, I'm just returning the favour" he barely looked at her as the construction workers had already resumed their work. He wanted to humiliate her more but there were more important things right now."I'll make you regret this Quinn" Lisa yelled after him but he ignored her as he received an alert on his phone. It was a red alert for everyone warning them to take shelter from the incoming typhoon but he knew it was a false news.Quinn merely glanced at the notification. In his previous life, this same warning had sent thousands of people into a frenzy, only for nothing to happen. The real disaster would come soon and by then, it would be too late for anyone who wasn't prepared."Keep working!" He yelled to the construction worke
CHAPTER 9
Quinn frowned at each and everyone of them.He was making sure their faces were engrained in his memory. In the coming of the harsh apocalypse, he would turn his back on everyone.Lisa didn't want to say anything but she knew that his stance was valid.“And you think you can come to my house without a police warrant? Harassing my workers? What level of stupidity.”Quinn said, then the hint of a smile appeared on his face.Wealth was good.Wealth was power. And before money lost its value, he would make sure to appropriately use it.Before Lisa left his house, he had gotten a set of people to follow her. These were easily found on the dark web, he just needed to pay these people.“Since you all have no evidence. I'm going to give you mine.”Quinn took out his phone, and opened the door to this house.Lisa could feel the dread rising from within her.She hated where this was going and there was no way she could leave at the moment. These people held her tight. The spacious living room w
