Mrs. Aldridge’s eyes widened in disbelief and then turned into rage. “You… you tried to kill my daughter?!”

Adrian’s jaw tightened, but his voice remained calm. “That’s a lie. Someone must have tampered with my station.”

Malvin finally spoke, his tone deceptively smooth. “Maybe it was just an accident. Or maybe… Or you did it on purpose so you could look like her saviour.”

Adrian’s gaze shot toward him, sharp as a blade. “This is your doing, isn’t it?”

Malvin raised his eyebrows, pretending to look offended. “My doing? I risked my life to save her, and now you want to blame me? You really are desperate.”

The man’s polished shoes crunched against the gravel as he stepped forward. The sunlight flashed against his dark shades. The Aldridge family stood at the top of the steps. “Who are you?” Mr. Aldridge demanded, his voice echoing through the open courtyard. “And what business do you have here?” The young man stopped a few paces away, straightened his collar, and gave a faint smile. “I am a man,” he said calmly, but his voice was filled with heavy authority, “who has come for what is rightfully his.” Mrs. Aldridge frowned, her pulse quickening. “What are you talking about?” The stranger tilted his head slightly, as though studying them. “The Aldridge family signed a contract years ago... one that promised Sophia Aldridge to me.” Gasps rippled through the servants and guards.
