Abel Scott arrived at the vibe corporation office. The company he is applying to for the janitorial assistant position.
As soon as he stepped into the parking lot, a purple Rolls-Royce parked in a spot across from him.
He looked at the car without intending to and saw a young couple getting out of the car.
The man was wearing a branded suit, looking very handsome and smart. Meanwhile, the lady was dressed in a flamboyant style. Her skin was glowing.
As it turned out, the lady was Bianca Lawrence, twin sister to Lisa Lawrence and cousin to Sarah, his wife. And the man Alex vandel, the second son of lord Ammon vandel.
Abel Scott's eyes flamed up. “What are they doing here?” He asked himself, confused.
He couldn’t figure out why they were here but the best thing he could do was to avoid them because he had a greater plan for them.
However, the more he tried to hide from them the more they were likely to see him.
Bianca caught sight of him from the corner of her eyes. “Hi, Abel!” She yelled.
Bianca Lawrence called out his name in a friendly manner but Abel Scott felt goosebumps rise all over his body.
Out of courtesy, he stopped where he was and waited for them to come and meet him. “Hey, Bianca, why are you here?” He smiled.
Bianca chuckled, “oh, it’s Alex that is here, I’m just here as an escort.
“He is here to see Grace Sanders, the vice chairman of Vibe Corporations.”
“Oh, that’s nice” Abel Scott stretching his arms to shake Alex Vandel. He ignores him.
They stare at each other for a moment before Alex asks, “Do I know you from somewhere?”
There was a heavy silence between them.
Abel Scott's heart froze. “Damn, is my cover blown?”
Alex narrowed his brows, “Your face? Have we crossed paths before? Maybe at Northernville?”
Abel Scott's stomach dropped. His lips parted but no words could come out.
“Or is somewhere less pleasant?” Alex said, leaning closer.
“No, you can’t possibly know him” Bianca interjected, “this is Abel, husband to my cousin, Sarah”
“He is a lowlife and a wretch that plans to bring shame to the Lawrence family name.” She chuckled.
“There is no way some of such low standing in society would even have crossed your path in the past,” Bianca added.
“Well, that's strange. He looks like someone I know.” Alex Vandel said. “And he answers Abel too. Never mind, I saw him die” a subtle grin spread slowly across his face.
Abel Scott's eyes turned red. He felt like teaching him a lesson right here.
“What are you doing here Abel?” Bianca asked.
“I’m applying for the position of a janitor at the company.”
“Oh!” Bianca scoffed, “I wouldn’t be surprised.” She added.
“Well, Victor Vandel is getting married to Lisa very soon and the purchase of ABC holdings, the parent company of Westbridge and Vibe, is the first step of our family's rise in this city and the Vandel family expansion to the east.”
“Alex is here to check the state of the vibe before the purchase.” She added.
“I’m happy for Lisa,” Abel said, feigning happiness.
“Happy?” Bianca said with disgust. “You are not meant to see happiness or even enjoy it.”
“You and your Sarah are the reason our family is moving up north of the country to get married.”
“It’s a blessing in disguise, now, we are not only going to respect the hierarchy of power in the east but also the north.”
“Come, Alex, let's go inside,” Bianca said.
Abel Scott stood there rooted to the ground, he clenched and unclenched his fists. His jaw tightened, the urge to lash out and let his anger spill wrestled against his self-control. A storm gathered behind his darkened eyes.
But then, he drew a long, deliberate breath. “Be calm, Abel. Stick to the plan.”
These words pulled him back like an anchor. Slowly, he loosened his shoulders. He exhaled letting out the fire that bellowed from within his belly.
He took deliberate steps to the building.
“Hi, ma’am, I am Abel Scott, I am here for the interview for the role of the janitorial position.” His voice was soft and calm.
The receptionist did not look up, her fingers clattered against the keyboard and the light of the monitor screen reflected on her glasses.
Seconds turned into minutes, still no response. Abel clasped his hands to hold his nerves together, forcing himself to remain patient.
“Good morning ma'am, I am Abel Scott, I'm here for the interview.” Abel Scott said, raising his voice a little higher.
Finally, she raised her gaze. Her expression was flat and unimpressed. “Name?” She asked like the words cost her tons of cash.
“Abel. Abel Scott, ma’am.” He replied.
But she was already filling through a stack of paper. “You will need to fill this” she said, her eyes still not looking at him. She pushed the document with the least commitment across the counters.
“Then you sit over there in that room until you are called,” She said, continuing her typing without a smile.
The door creaked open, and the receptionist peeked her head out.
“You.” She said sharply. “Yes, you, they are ready for you.” Her voice was laced with distaste.
Abel Scott straightened his tie and the crisp that formed on his shirt. He stepped into the interview room and saw a familiar face.
“You?” He stood there in shock. The woman at the center of the panel leaned back in her chair, a cruel smile tugging at her lips.
“Well, well, look who crawled in.” She said with a smirk.
