The next day, I couldn’t decide what to do for the whole day.

Since I still had money left over from yesterday, there wasn’t any sense of urgency. But if I kept spending, it would eventually run out. Before that happened, I needed to take some kind of action.

“First of all, why was I able to pass through the wall? I should figure that out.”

If I just wanted quick money, I could dive into a dungeon and search for treasure chests. But in the long run, solving the mystery of passing through walls was far more important.

If I could freely pass through walls, that would become a huge weapon for me.

Though honestly, I couldn’t really imagine how exactly I’d use it.

“Let’s try it on the wall at home first.”

The walls at home are thinner than dungeon walls, so maybe it would be easier to pass through them.

“〈Evasion〉.”

I said it out loud, but nothing happened.

Well, I didn’t really expect it to work so easily. If passing through walls was that simple, I would have noticed it long ago.

I tried to recall exactly what happened when I passed through the wall.

At that time, I’d been blown backward and used 〈Evasion〉 while flying toward the wall.

So maybe if I had my back to the wall, I could pass through it.

“〈Evasion〉.”

…Nothing happened.

It seemed impossible with the house wall. In that case, I had to head back to the dungeon.

“Maybe I need to investigate 〈Evasion〉 more carefully…”

On the way to the dungeon, I pulled up my status screen.

◇◇◇◇◇◇

〈Evasion〉

Temporarily accelerates the body to dodge enemy attacks.

◇◇◇◇◇◇

Looking at the description, there was no mention of passing through walls. So why did it happen that time?

Did 〈Evasion〉 activate against the wall itself? But 〈Evasion〉 only works when you’re under attack. Even if the werewolf had thrown me, the wall wasn’t an enemy. Normally, 〈Evasion〉 shouldn’t have activated at all.

And even if the wall was somehow recognized as an attack, 〈Evasion〉 only makes the body move faster. Passing through walls doesn’t make sense.

“Hmm… I guess thinking about it won’t help.”

No matter how much I thought, I wasn’t going to find the answer.

“Maybe I should just try different methods instead.”

Since the same conditions as yesterday gave me success, I figured trying again in the Fassil Dungeon was my best bet.

So I went inside and immediately tried it.

“〈Evasion〉.”

I said it facing the wall, but nothing happened.

Then I tried it with my back to the wall, just like at home. Still, 〈Evasion〉 didn’t activate.

What was different from yesterday?

I carefully recalled the details.

“The werewolf swung its arm, I blocked with my knife, the knife broke, I was blown backward toward the wall, and just as I was about to hit it, I used 〈Evasion〉—and passed through.”

I muttered as I remembered.

“So maybe if I jump backward and use 〈Evasion〉, it’ll work?”

That was my conclusion.

I stood with my back to the dungeon wall.

“Alright.”

I psyched myself up and jumped backward.

“〈Evasion〉!”

I shouted, but nothing happened.

Thud! My backside hit the wall.

From the outside, I must have looked ridiculous.

“Maybe I didn’t have enough momentum?”

I thought maybe it wasn’t about facing backward, but about having the same force as when I was blown away.

So I took some distance from the wall.

Then—

“Uaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!”

I charged at the wall with all my strength.

As the wall loomed closer, fear rose inside me, but I couldn’t stop.

“〈Evasion〉!!”

I activated the skill just before impact.

Bang! A loud sound echoed.

Huh—?

I collapsed backward in confusion.

The skill hadn’t activated.

And damn, it hurt like hell!!!

Of course it did—I’d just rammed into the wall at full speed.

I writhed on the ground until the pain subsided.

“Looks like it only works under the exact same conditions as yesterday…”

The same conditions: being blown away by the werewolf, hitting the wall, and using 〈Evasion〉 at that exact moment.

But the risk was enormous.

If I failed, I’d literally die.

And even if I succeeded, I’d already claimed the first-clear reward, so I wouldn’t get anything valuable again.

“Still, I can’t just give up trying…”

For someone like me, scorned as useless, passing through walls was my only hope.

To protect my sister, I had to keep trying.

After that, I headed straight for the boss’s room.

On the way, I ran into several wolves, but since I already knew I couldn’t defeat them, I ignored them all and kept moving forward.

After running for two hours, I finally reached the boss’s room.

“My… my hands are shaking…”

Yesterday, I had been forced into the boss’s room against my will, but today I was entering by choice.

I gathered my courage and opened the door.

“Gwoooooooohhhhhh!!”

The dungeon boss, the werewolf, roared to welcome me.

Scared, I raised my knife.

But deliberately getting blown away was harder than I imagined.

Blocking weak attacks like jabs wouldn’t work. To be thrown back, I needed to take a full-force strike.

And the direction I was blown in was also important.

If I got thrown into a wall that wasn’t connected to the reward area, I might just end up back at the entrance of the boss’s room instead.

So I focused on moving carefully, trying to provoke the werewolf.

Yesterday had been tough because I was exhausted. As long as I still had stamina, the werewolf’s attacks weren’t so terrifying.

Was it getting irritated?

Looking at its expression, I thought so. I hadn’t attacked at all, only dodged. From its perspective, maybe it thought I was mocking it.

If that was the case, I could use its frustration to my advantage.

“Alright.”

I muttered, then stepped back to put some distance between us.

I spun the knife in my hand and said:

“C-come at me…!”

I Wonder…! Did it work?

“Gwooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!”

The werewolf let out an abnormal roar.

The provocation had succeeded.

Fueled by rage, it charged straight at me.

This was it!

I was certain.

If I blocked this attack, I’d be thrown hard into the wall. And my back was facing the wall that connected to the reward area.

Crash! The sound of my knife shattering rang out.

I had blocked the werewolf’s claws with my knife. If I had taken them directly, they would have ripped me apart. Blocking was necessary.

And then, along with the broken knife, my body was hurled straight toward the wall—

“〈Evasion〉!!”

Just before impact, I shouted!

I felt my body being pulled into the wall, as if absorbed.

It worked.

I had passed through the wall and arrived in the reward area.

“I did it!!”

Overcome with excitement, I raised both hands high in the air.

As usual, the reward area contained a teleportation circle for leaving the dungeon and a treasure chest. «"I seriously don't feel like I made it out alive..."» The moment I reached the reward area, I dropped heavily onto the floor. If I'd failed to lure the Black Orc's attack properly, if I'd misjudged the angle I was sent flying, if I'd mistimed 〈Evasion〉... any one of those mistakes would have cost me my life. It's honestly amazing that I managed to pull it off without making a single mistake. Even so... It was worth going through all of that. Thinking that, I reached out and placed my hand on the treasure chest. «"So this is the Spiral Dungeon's first-clear reward..."» Inside was a single book. I already knew its effect from my research, but I checked its status just to be sure. ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ 〈Book of Mastery〉 Raises the user's highest stat by 10. (Applies to the entire party.) • Chapter 9: Wall Pass With An Orc!

The Pylar Dungeon. The recommended standard for clearing it was six level 25 adventurers—an E-class dungeon. And here I was, a level 1 adventurer, about to challenge it solo. Inside, the dim corridors twisted like a maze. With the map memorized perfectly in my head, I advanced without hesitation. My goal, of course, was the first-clear reward obtained after defeating the dungeon boss. Naturally, I wasn’t planning to defeat the boss. I intended to claim the reward without fighting. “Gugyuru.” “Ugh, it appeared out of nowhere.” I muttered as I saw the monster before me—an orc. A hulking creature with green skin, wielding a wooden club. In the Pylar Dungeon, this was the most common monster. “Y-yeah, this is scary…” Facing a monster for the first time made my body tremble. Wolves I had fought plenty of times, so I was used to them. But this was different. As I thought that, the orc suddenly swung its club with a heavy sweep. “Waaah!” I shouted as I raised the

  • Chapter 8: Robbery

“Wh-why…?” That was the first thing I asked. Why was Guillermo standing right in front of me? “I hear you’ve been going in and out of exchange counters all over the place lately.” Guillermo grinned as he said this. I knew that exchanging the 〈Sword of Departure〉—which was supposed to be a first-clear reward—over and over would look suspicious. That’s why I had been careful to use a different exchange counter each time… “Hey, why don’t you show me what you were planning to exchange with me, huh?” Guillermo said this as he stepped closer. I—I have to run! I turned around to flee, but— “Dom, you can’t escape.” Behind me were several adventurers from Guillermo’s party. Before I realized it, his cronies had surrounded me. “Hey, how did you even get the 〈Sword of Departure〉?” At some point Guillermo had moved right in front of me, staring at the sword I was holding. “I cleared the Fassil Dungeon and got it…” “Did you hear that? Dom says he c

  • Chapter 7: First-clear Reward

And so, I succeeded once again in passing through the wall into the reward area. However, it’s a fixed rule that rewards after the first clear are inferior compared to the initial clear reward. Because of that, adventurers don’t repeatedly defeat the same boss just for the clear reward. If there are adventurers who fight the same boss over and over, their goal isn’t the clear reward but rather the drop items the boss leaves behind. That said, since I can’t defeat monsters, the clear reward is my only way to make money. I have no choice but to gratefully accept it. With that in mind, I opened the treasure chest without much expectation. “Huh?” Inside was a sword that looked very similar to the one I saw yesterday. Just to be sure, I checked the sword’s stats. ◇◇◇◇◇◇ 〈Sword of Departure〉 Attack Power: +100 ◇◇◇◇◇◇ Sure enough, it was the first-clear reward, the 〈Sword of Departure〉. Strange. I’d heard that the 〈Sword of Departure〉 could only be obtained on the

  • Chapter 5: Clear Rewards

"What w-what the fuck just happened?" I was really confused. I looked around and immediately realized where I was. It was the room you're always taken to after defeating a dungeon boss. We call it the reward area. As proof, a teleportation array was drawn on the floor, and using it would let me easily exit the dungeon. And… "There's a treasure chest too…" "How lucky for me." The treasure chest you get after defeating the dungeon boss was sitting on the floor. Well, I'd just phased through the wall… I hadn't actually defeated the boss, but anyway, that's no reason not to take it. I opened it right away. "Whoa, it's a sword!" Inside was a single sword. I checked its stats. {SWORD OF DEPARTURE} (Increases attack by 100.) A +100 boost to attack isn't a bad stat, is it? To benefit from the sword, you must have the "sword technique" skill. If you don't have it, equipping it won't grant you the +100 bonus, so to me this is nothing more than a heavy stick.
