Chapter Six
Silence swept the crowd.
Elena’s breath caught, her fingers curling into fists at her side.Lucas forced a smile, though his teeth clenched. “Honored guest…? He's poor and useless, and I don't understand whatever he must have said to you, Miss Catherine, he's a liar. Don't allow him to trick you.”
“ Do I look like someone who can be tricked in your eyes? Trust me, I'm smarter than that.”
Catherine snorted, took Adrian’s arm, and walked into the banquet hall without paying them any further attention.
Elena’s heart twisted as she followed Lucas into the banquet hall. She had just divorced Adrian—barely freed herself, she thought—and yet, in what felt like a blink, he stood confidently at the side of a woman like Catherine Moretti. A woman more powerful, more dazzling, more untouchable than Elena could ever dream of being.
The discomfort gnawed at her chest, bitter and sharp.
But so what? He was still trying to rely on women to make a living. Thinking of that, a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes.
Inside the grand hall, conversation swelled like a tide. The chandeliers blazed overhead, scattering brilliance across tables lined with velvet and crystal. Guests swirled like currents, each smile hiding ambition, each greeting dripping with calculation.
And at the center of it all stood Lucas Brown.
The moment he stepped in, guests flocked to him as if drawn by gravity. Businessmen and politicians greeted him warmly, their laughter exaggerated, their words filled with flattery.
“Mr. Brown, what an honor to see you tonight!”
“Ah, such a fine couple! Miss Elena and you truly are a perfect match.”
“Yes, yes—no doubt the most enviable pair in the city!”
Lucas basked in their attention, his chest swelling with pride. He exchanged handshakes like a king granting favor to his subjects, his smile broadening with every compliment.
One guest leaned in conspiratorially.
“ I hear the auction tonight features a most extraordinary treasure. A vintage ring from the private collection of Chairman Armstrong, the president of the Business Association himself. Rumor has it, it’s worth a fortune. But who else could possibly afford it, if not you?”
Lucas’s eyes glittered, and he threw his head back with a laugh.
“That ring? Hah! Then it’s as good as mine already. No one here can outbid me.”
The circle erupted in polite laughter, eager to echo his arrogance.
But across the room, Catherine Moretti’s lips curved into a sharp smile. Her voice carried just enough for all to hear.
“Really? What a bold claim. But let me correct you. If Adrian wanted to, he could buy not just that ring—he could buy out this entire auction house.”
A beat of stunned silence filled the air.
And then came the laughter.
It rolled through the crowd, mocking, cruel, dismissive. Heads turned toward Adrian, their eyes dripping with ridicule.
“That guy? Please—he couldn’t afford a meal in here, let alone an auction house.”
"What trick is he using to make her speak for him?”
The whispers grew, biting, poisonous.
Lucas smirked, seizing the moment. “Director Moretti, surely you’re joking. Adrian Cole? The same man Elena divorced because he couldn’t even pay the bills? A man like him has no place here, let alone in an auction.”
Adrian, who had been silent through it all, finally stirred. His expression was calm, detached, as if the sneers and insults around him didn’t even reach his ears. He looked toward Lucas, then at the ring displayed on the auction list, its gleaming image stirring something deep in his chest.
“I’m not interested in buying the whole auction,” Adrian said evenly, his voice cutting through the laughter.
“But that ring…” His eyes hardened, a glint of determination sparking like fire. “…is mine.”
The room fell still.

The King slowly rose to his feet, his expression a mixture of anger and heartbreak."I explained everything to you, Dugan," he said, his voice trembling with restrained emotion. "I told you why things couldn't work between us."He took a slow breath, trying to calm the storm raging inside him."I couldn't abandon the clan.""There was already enough chaos between the Dragon and Fox Clans after my elder brother violated the Fox Princess. That single act ignited a conflict that nearly destroyed both clans. He was executed for his crime, leaving me as the only prince in line for the throne."His eyes darkened with painful memories. Not long afterward, my father, King Deon, fell into his Frozen State—a condition he remains trapped in even today."He clenched his fists. "You know what that did to my mother. She had already lost her first son. She watched her husband become nothing more than a lifeless shell. She was drowning in grief."He looked directly into Dugan's eyes. "Did you really

"It will only sting for a moment."The little girl nodded bravely and stretched out her finger.A second drop of blood entered another crystal vial. The physician sealed both containers before placing them onto a small jade plate.Everyone watched without blinking. Even Queen Dugan had unconsciously stopped crying. Her fingers dug deeply into her sleeves."Please..." She silently prayed. "Please work..."The physician took a de

All three princes arrived almost at the same time and immediately heard Princess Lila's accusation. The atmosphere turned tense.Prince Harry was the first to step forward."What's going on here?" he demanded. "I heard General Marcus was arrested, so I came as quickly as I could."His eyes moved from the King to Queen Dugan before finally settling on his sister. Then Prince Josh frowned."Did I hear you correctly?" he asked. "Did you just say Queen Dugan killed our mothers?"The room instantly became silent.Prince Robert looked equally stunned."I thought I was the only one who heard that."Queen Dugan's face darkened."Of course not," she snapped. "Your sister is making ridiculous accusations."She pointed at Princess Lila."You all know she's hated me from the very beginning. She's never accepted me."Her eyes became red as tears began gathering."She's been pretending all these years."Before anyone could respond, the King suddenly spoke."Someone."His voice was weak but commandi

"My princess, what is it that you have to say?" the King demanded, his voice carrying authority despite his weakened condition.Princess Lila stepped forward and took a deep breath."Father, I have always believed that the accident involving my mother and Prince Harry's mother years ago was not natural. There were too many inconsistencies. I knew something had been hidden from us."The King's brows furrowed. "What are you insinuating?""Someone tampered with the carriage," Lila said firmly. "For years, I chose not to investigate because there was no proof. But two hours ago, Chairman Cole gave me a riddle to think about. It made me start connecting certain pieces, and when I looked deeper, I uncovered something far worse."The King's gaze immediately shifted. "What did Chairman Cole ask you to look into?""He simply asked me one question," Lila replied..She turned slowly toward Queen Dugan.."He asked me if I didn't see the resemblance."At those words, Queen Dugan's heart skipped a be

He looked from Kai to the King's soldiers and back again. The officer stepped forward once more. "General Marcus, please come with us."Marcus clenched his jaw. "I have served the Prescott Clan for over fourteen years," he said coldly. "If there are accusations against me, I deserve to know them."The officer remained expressionless. "His Majesty will explain everything personally."That answer only made Marcus more uneasy.Kai casually tossed the General's Seal into the air before catching it again. "You should go," he said.Marcus shot him a murderous glare. "You knew this was coming."Kai's expression gradually became serious."The King isolated himself. The guards around his palace answer to someone other than the royal family. The princes were denied access." The Queen was far too eager to prevent treatment." He paused.
