CHAPTER 7 Beginning of the end: Apocalypse descent!
last update2025-07-04 14:01:45

The sun over Brayden today was very gloomy which was strange since the city was known for its warm skies. This change in weather had suddenly happened over the past few days without reason. The same thing was also reported in many other regions which was strange causing some people to panic. However, the weather reports stated that it was the result of a partial eclipse and that it would soon disperse which calmed down the tension.

Raising his eyes away from his phone, Dante sneered as he saw the news.

‘’The government will always be the government, hiding the truth till the last moment. Those bastards are never dependable!’’

Clicking his tongue he proceeded to continue checking through his phone. Today was the day the apocalypse would descend and to say he was not nervous was an understatement. Knowing that the world as he knew it would end in less than half an hour was not something any average person could even imagine.

Currently he was seated in one of the many malls strewn around Brayden's campus for the students' convenience. He had chosen this place for a very specific reason—this was one of the places where the apocalypse had descended during his lifetime and also where he had died. There was another reason but that could wait till later.

Looking at the crowd of energetic students bustling around he instinctively felt pity for them as they were still oblivious to the fact that their normal lives were about to be brutally disrupted.

At first the thought of going to the government and revealing all he knew and the system had come to his mind. He was sure that with the advanced tech the system offered there was a chance of humanity prevailing over the destruction bound to happen.

That thought lasted less than a second in his mind before it vanished.

He was no hero nor saint!

While that would have seemed noble he was no stranger to the human mind. Humans were inherently selfish and so was he.

YES! Announcing the existence of the system might earn him accolades from the world and YES! a lot of lives would be saved, but he knew that he would have a future full of misery.

Humans loved to have everything in their grasp and they would go to any length to do so, to control was human nature.

Call him a bad person but he would still do the same.

With a tired expression, he rubbed his temples in an attempt to clear his mind, all these thoughts weren't going to help in the next half an hour.

‘’Well I at least tried to inform them, whatever they do is their choice…..sigh, their fate is theirs to grasp...... System pull up the interface.. ’’

With a tired expression, he rubbed his temples in an attempt to clear his mind, all these thoughts weren't going to help in the next half an hour.

Closing the interface, Dante sat back with a satisfied smile on his face. Just looking at his goodies nearly made him scream out of joy.

The interface hadn't changed that much except in some areas most notable of which were the amount of gear points he had, his attributes and finally the new equipment tab.

The most obvious change was the increase in the gear points, from a measly 20-ish points he was now the proud owner of over eight hundred points!

Actually he was supposed to have over a thousand but he had spent part of it to upgrade his stats and also buy a new blueprint from the store setting him back by about six hundred points, he however made a return when he completed the equipment as they all awarded him gear points for successfully mastering and crafting them bringing him to a grand total of nearly nine hundred points!

The attribute increase was also notable,as he finally decided to increase his attributes after a long consideration. Obviously the highest stat was his intelligence as that was actually the main attribute of a mechanic according to the system. While he had wanted to throw all the points to the strength aspect reason eventually prevailed and holy cow was he shocked by the difference.

The rate at which he could process calculations now couldn't even begin to compare to before, it was simply like the difference between night and day—incomparable! Coupled with the effects of the mental potion even he was afraid of his computational ability. Right now he was still in the exploratory phase.

The other attributes were also increased but not as much since intelligence. Although to the system the main attribute of the mechanic battle class was the intelligence attribute which made sense, he still added points to his physique, he wasn't planning to be a paper mechanic!

The last and most important of them all was the new equipment tab which just like it’s name suggested held his equipment, both the ones he himself crafted and those he got from the system which was only the Serax pistol.

After completing Germaine’s mission, he had spent the last few days fabricating all his battle gear. Looking at the interface now he really was proud of his achievements.

Three items, each enough to shock anyone who saw them considering how they were miles ahead of current earth technology. From the power armour he was currently wearing to the electromagnetic pulse bombs they were enough to make him a boss in the early stages of the apocalypse.

The last one was the chain blade which had two states, a normal blade form and another form factor that consisted of nine individual blades which could be controlled by his gear sense talent. It was essentially like he had nine different blades he could bend to his will and boy were they powerful. In his excitement when he finished them he had taken it for a spin in his apartment and let's just say the landlord would have murdered him.

‘’’He probably wouldn't mind right? hun…?’’

Muttering to himself he was about to continue his scrolling when he suddenly felt that something was not right. Which was immediately followed by an indescribable feeling of dread settling upon him causing him to involuntarily shiver.

‘’This aura!’’

Sucking a mouthful of air his eyes widened as he instinctively glanced at the timer only to discover that there were only a measly five seconds left for the timer to finish its counting down.

Hurriedly he tried to contact the system but there was no response whatsoever, it was like the system had never even existed in the first place as all the tabs had greyed out.

Before he had the time to think about it though there was a crack like the world itself was falling apart as a dark and sinister voice echoed in his mind—no, not only in his mind but in the minds of the billions of other humans on earth.

‘’HA HA HA HA, HA HA HA HA. Earthlings! The dark times have arrived, the universe bemoans its fate while all creatures wail in suffering, the realms have crumbled and the gods have bled and even the fates are in eternal slumber!’’

Pausing, the voice resounded once more albeit as a whisper.

‘’Humans, embrace your nightmare.’’

And then the world as humans knew it changed forever.

The spider was still occupied with the zombies throwing themselves at it giving them a chance to observe it. While Dante was having no issue since he had seen even more dangerous mutated beasts in the past the same couldn't be said about the trio behind him.The zombies were like a bunch of relentless moths that continuously threw themselves at a flame only to curl up dead. Each time the spider wiped out a bunch of zombies more quickly replaced it like they were endless. They had initially though that the zombies were the biggest issues they could face. Looking at the mutated spider before them though they suddenly wondered if they had a chance of seeing the sun rise tomorrow! The sight was chilling the trio to their very souls! The zombies that were like a huge stone before them previously were now like helpless kids ganging up on an adult–an adult swinging a freaking huge stick at that! The spider's legs were it's strongest weapons, a single jab was enough to skewer at

  • Chapter 15: Ghostface Demon Spider!

Kriiiiischh!!!!!Following an ear splitting screech both humans and zombies alike instinctively felt like their skin was about to crawl off their bodies! The next moment a red blur suddenly shot towards a zombie that was the closest to the entrance. However, the zombie was somehow able to dodge the initial attack revealing the true appearance of the blur to be a blood red rope.On closer look the blood rope looked like a web but instead of being fashioned from spider silk it seemed to be made of clotted, red blood! Furthermore, it was like it had a mind of it's own as it immediately turned around in an attempt to entangle the undead again! Roar! The zombie's already scarlet pupils turned an even darker shade of red as it roared in fury. It was the one that hunted others when did it become the hunted?! Although it didn't know what the red web thingy was it also didn't care at all! With all the strength it could mutter it tried to bite the stupid web only to fail each ti

  • I take back my words, lady luck must hate me!

“Ugh…I take back my words, lady luck must hate me!” Groaning, Dante felt a pressing urge to smack his face. It wasn't even up to a minute yet he was already eating his words! The ferocious zombies however gave him no time to even think about that as they were already rushing up the stairs. Luckily the stairs could only fit so many zombies at a time giving Dante amole time to fish out some instructions. Turning to the three girls behind him he saw that they were nearly petrified from fear, however, he couldn't be bothered with pacifying them now. “Stay behind me and ensure you move when I move, don’t do anything stupid……here, take this you might need to do a little bit of swinging later when we have strays.” Pausing he thought for a bit before stretching his hand into the air as a metal baseball bat appeared in his hand. Tossing the bat towards Amber he ignored the shock on her face as he prepared himself for the upcoming battle. Naturally there was no way you wouldn't b

  • Chapter 13 : Lady are you a banshee?!

“Crap!” For the first time in his life Dante fully experienced what it meant to face a banshee! His ears were ringing like crazy! That however wasn't the main thing. Running to the window his face turned even darker. The perverted look that was previously hanging on his face was long gone replaced by one of fear and panic. Zombies were inherently optimized with great sharp senses. A slight sound was enough to alert them into a frenzy. Just as he guessed all the zombies that were previously wandering aimlessly were now staggering in the direction of the male hostel block. Last night he was able to avoid facing a horde but looking at the situation now there was definitely no way he could avoid one. Throwing all these thoughts to the back of his mind he quickly turned towards the door only to see the lady standing there. Thankfully she had covered the exposed parts of her body. “I went to take a bath….” “There's no need for an explanation, it's my fault for leaving

  • Chapter 12: They actually get that big?

As he stared at the quest window floating in front of him Dante wished that he was dreaming. Unfortunately though this wasn't a dream. The existence of a sub-quest was actually long expected by Dante at this he wasn't surprised a bit. In his opinion there was no way the system would immediately assign him the main quest without some minor quests that would serve as stepping stones to reach the main quest. It was just like playing a video game, you had to deal with the minions before you could have a chance to fight the boss! What shocked him though was the fact that he only had a single year to complete the quest! "Hey system why is the timeline a year, there's got to be something wrong with your measurements.” Frowning he muttered to the system in his head as he looked at the still suspended interface. If he didn't remember wrongly humans were still existing after a year had passed. In fact he got killed by the D-tier zombie king five years into the apocalypse s

  • Crazy system upgrades! & First sub-quest.

Naturally the young man was none other than Dante! Contrary to his belief that he could shake off the zombie horde from the ice cream shop, the opposite happened instead. The bastards stuck to him like a bloody loach! Furthermore, the zombies even had the guts to call over more of their kind. If not for his sharp wits and admirable skills he would have met his maker! Eventually he was able to shake off the zombies but by then the sky was already getting dark. If you thought the horrors of the day weren't enough try nighttime! Unlike in the movies where zombies became slow and super inactive at night the zombies in real life proved otherwise as they instead became even more ferocious in dark. Plus the chance of encountering a mutated beast was even higher at this time since they treated night as their hunting time. There was no way Dante would willingly offer himself up for dinner–ever! There was a problem though—he had nowhere to stay. By now the apocalypse had
