The Other Realm

Draken took several steps backward as the creature charged towards him, emitting guttural noises.

Once the creature was only a few inches away from him, it leaped into the air and descended towards him from above.

Reacting swiftly, Draken jumped backward, causing the creature to miss its target and land on the bare floor.

The creature regained composure instantly and slashed its vicious claws towards Draken's chest.

CLANG!

In the last second, Draken managed to lift his small knife and block the claws before they could make an impact, creating a resonating clanging sound.

'If I get scratched by its claws, I'm a goner!' Draken pondered, leaping a few meters backward to create a gap, but the creature didn't relent.

Closing the gap instantly, it swiped both hands forward, and the claws headed straight for Draken's head.

'It's not giving me a chance to regroup!' Draken lamented internally, ducking low, and the claws passed above him.

After successfully dodging the strike, he swung his blade towards the creature's open stomach.

'Dammit!'

Once the blade made contact with the creature's body, it shattered to pieces. The scales of the creature acted like a shield, and most weapons weren't strong enough to penetrate.

'My only weapon!' Draken mused, swerving his body sideways and dodging another swift attack from the creature's claws. Dodging the strike, Draken wasn't fast enough to react to the incoming tail.

SLASH!

The blade-like tail connected with his chest and tore his skin, causing blood to be drawn. The force behind the hit lifted him off the floor and sent him crashing against a nearby tree.

Draken's body crashed into the tree, and he fell to the ground.

'Ugh...' He grunted in pain while lifting himself back up to his feet. Blood trickled down from his wound, but that was his least worry right now.

The creature still charged forward at an incredible speed, while Draken stood in the same spot, assuming a fighting stance.

When the creature was in striking distance, it swung its tail forward once more towards Draken.

The tail traveled towards Draken's injured chest but was stopped midway as Draken grabbed onto it. His palm bled as he struggled to maintain the grip.

He then pulled the creature forward using the tail and connected his elbow to its head.

BoooM!

The elbow made contact with the creature's head and knocked it down to the ground.

Draken took a few steps backward, unsure whether it was over. Blood trickled down from his palm and chest, and beads of sweat dripped down his face while he panted heavily.

'Is it dead?' Draken pondered, examining the creature that lay on the ground motionless after taking a single hit.

Draken stood there for a few minutes before taking a step forward to take a closer look.

The moment he took a few steps forward, the creature rose back up and tackled Draken to the ground.

"Shit!" Draken exclaimed as the creature was now above him, attempting to shred him to pieces with its vicious claws while he struggled to prevent it.

Draken struggled for several minutes, and it was clear that the creature wouldn't relent while he was running out of energy to keep up.

"Argh!" He screamed in pain as the creature dug its claws into his arm, and blood gushed out.

Draken gritted his teeth in pain as he gave up struggling with it and proceeded to lift both of his hands, grabbing the creature's head.

Getting hold of the head, Draken pulled it downward with every ounce of strength he had and slammed it on the hard floor.

BooM!

The head hit the floor with great force and shattered instantly, and black blood splattered around.

Draken lay on the ground, panting heavily, and tears could be seen gathering up in his eyes.

"I've been infected," Draken uttered to himself, and the tears that had been gathering up were released like rain.

"Dammit, I won't get to say goodbye to Mom. I won't get to say goodbye to Tini and Nadine. I don't even know if they are still alive." Draken's tone was filled with sadness as he lay there, thinking about his whole life up until this moment.

Both the good and bad memories came rushing back.

"I'm sorry I couldn't protect any of you. I am sorry I abandoned you all and ran for my own safety," Draken wept, regretting his decision of running without looking back when the crisis began.

"If only I had another chance, I promise not to be a coward and make sure I eradicate this disease," Draken uttered, his vision becoming blurry, and he knew it was time to die and become an undead.

Just as he was fading away, he saw what looked like a holographic screen floating in front of him. Even with his eyes shut, he could still see it. Draken lifted his eyelids in confusion and glanced around the foreign area he found himself in.

The place was like a desert, but with no sand, just emptiness and darkness that overwhelmed the place.

The vast void stretched endlessly, a sea of darkness beneath an obsidian sky. Eerie whispers echoed through the emptiness, creating an unsettling atmosphere.

Shadows danced, distorted by unseen forces, casting an otherworldly ambiance over the desolate expanse.

'What is this place?' Draken pondered, noticing some other people scattered around, and they were also staring at the same window screen that was in front of him.

Noticing everyone's eyes were glued to their screens, Draken moved his gaze towards his to read the content of the notification.

'Void realm?' Draken intoned, his fingers placed on his chin in contemplation.

The void realm was what the Awakeners called the place where they were transported to when they went into a deep slumber, and the notification just made it clear to Draken that he was now in the Void realm, meaning...

'I didn't die and become a void creature; instead, I went into a deep slumber? Does this mean I have a shot at becoming an Awakener?' Draken pondered, a slight smile appearing on his face.

  • Chapter 156: The Balance

Chapter Title: The Balance That Refuses to Kneel The pressure did not strike all at once. It built. Slow. Measured. Deliberate. The large entity did not rush forward like the unstable ones before it. It did not lash out or distort the space in chaotic bursts. Instead, it expanded its influence with precision, testing the boundaries of the framework, pressing against it in controlled waves. Jacob felt each one. Not as pain. Not as force. But as resistance. Like something was trying to rewrite the rules they had just created. Lira stood beside him, her focus sharpened to its limit. “It’s pushing without attacking,” she said. Jacob nodded. “Because it doesn’t need to.” The presence confirmed. Strategic pressure detected That was the difference. This entity understood. It had already reached a level the others were still struggling toward. It did not need to destroy the framework. It only needed to prove it was unnecessary. And slowly… It was doing exactly that. Ano

  • Chapter 155: The First Fracture Of Certainty

Chapter Title: The First Fracture of Certainty The shift was small. So small that, if Jacob had not been paying attention with every part of his awareness, he might have missed it entirely. But he did not miss it. He felt it. The large entity, the one that had stood as a symbol of absolute certainty, had changed. Not in form. Not in strength. But in something deeper. Its stillness was no longer complete. Its presence no longer perfectly rigid. A flaw had appeared. Or perhaps… An opening. Lira leaned slightly closer, her voice barely above a whisper. “It moved.” Jacob nodded. “Yeah.” The presence confirmed. Adaptive process reactivated The words echoed with a quiet significance. Because this was not just a reaction. It was a decision. The large entity pulsed again. But this time… The pulse was uneven. Not chaotic. But no longer perfectly controlled. It carried variation. And that variation spread. The entities aligned with it reacted immediately. Their ri

  • Chapter 154: Weight Of Too Many Choices

Chapter Title: The Weight of Too Many Choices The space did not descend into chaos. That would have been easier to understand. Instead, it became something far more complicated. Alive with decisions. Everywhere Jacob looked, entities moved through different stages of becoming. Some glided into stability almost effortlessly, adopting the framework as if it had always belonged to them. Others drifted in uncertainty, lingering between formation and collapse, their shapes flickering with hesitation. And then there were the ones that resisted. Not all of them in the same way. Some rejected the framework outright, pushing against it with sharp, erratic bursts of energy. Others circled it, brushing against the pattern only to pull away again, as if something within them refused to settle. The space responded to all of it. It adapted. The framework expanded naturally, adjusting its presence without forcing itself. The areas where stability increased began to feel different, smoothe

  • Chapter 153: The Ones That Refuse The Pattern

Chapter Title: The Ones That Refuse the Pattern They came in waves. Not all at once, not in a single overwhelming surge, but steadily, inevitably. Distortions emerged from the deeper expanse like fragments of a broken idea trying to piece itself together. Some were faint, barely holding shape. Others were already forming, their outlines flickering with unstable intent. And now, for the first time, there was something waiting for them. The framework. Invisible to the eye, but woven into the space itself. A quiet offering. A path toward balance, toward structure, toward something more than chaos. Jacob stood at the center of it, his breathing steady, his focus absolute. “Here they come,” Lira said under her breath. “I see them,” Jacob replied. The presence spoke. Multiple entities entering interaction range The entity added. “Behavioral divergence expected.” Jacob nodded. “Let’s see.” The first of the incoming distortions reached the outer edge of the framework. It pulsed

  • Chapter 152: the past

The horizon did not hold. It filled. Slowly at first, like mist gathering over water, the faint silhouettes continued to form. One became three, three became ten, ten stretched into dozens. Each figure wavered at the edge of reality before stepping forward and solidifying just enough to exist. Not fully alive. Not entirely gone. Something in between. Azrael stood his ground, his eyes scanning the growing crowd as his grip on Quinn tightened ever so slightly. His instincts told him to prepare for a fight. But nothing attacked. Nothing rushed him. Nothing even showed aggression. They simply… arrived. “…Yeah,” he muttered under his breath. “This is getting out of hand.” The woman beside him didn’t respond immediately. Her attention was fixed on the expanding field of figures, her expression sharper than it had ever been. “This isn’t supposed to happen,” she said quietly. Azrael smirked faintly. “You keep saying that.” Her gaze flicked to him briefly. “And you keep maki

  • Chapter 151: Echoes That Refuse to Fade

Chapter Title: Echoes That Refuse to Fade The wind did not settle. It grew. Not violently, not with the chaotic rage of a storm, but with a steady, deliberate increase that carried weight far beyond air in motion. It pressed against Azrael’s clothes, tugged lightly at his hair, and whispered across the open land with a tone that felt almost like a warning. Something had changed again. Not suddenly. Not sharply. But undeniably. Azrael stood still, his eyes fixed on the horizon as the feeling settled deeper into his bones. The world ahead looked the same, stretched wide and endless, but it no longer felt like something he could simply walk through. It felt like something that would answer back. “…You feel that too, right?” he asked. The woman didn’t hesitate this time. “Yes.” Her voice was quieter than usual, more focused. “It’s spreading.” Azrael exhaled slowly. “Yeah.” A pause. “Not just here.” His grip on Quinn tightened slightly. “Everywhere.” Quinn responded im
