Apocalypse Overlord: My God-Tier Architect System
Chapter 3: The Destroyer Approaches
I stared at the tall figure walking toward my shelter, my grip tight on the metal pipe until my fingers hurt. The cruel laugh still rang in my ears. This was no ordinary monster. This was a person like me who had received a system, but his power felt darker and much stronger. Level 8. I was only level 2. The difference hit me hard. My safe zone, the small truck shelter I had just built with my own hands, suddenly felt too weak and too small.
The system voice stayed calm inside my head, but the words it spoke made my chest tighten.
[Destroyer-class user detected at 1.2 kilometers. Estimated arrival in four minutes. Recommendation: Upgrade defenses immediately or prepare to evacuate.]
Evacuate? Where would I go? The streets were full of monsters, and my mother and brother were still out there somewhere. I could not just run and leave everything behind. This shelter was my only chance right now. I had to make it hold.
I climbed down quickly and opened the blueprint screen again. My new resources from the level up gave me a little more to work with: 20 wood, 15 metal, and 5 energy cores, plus the armored hide I had taken from the big beast. The system showed new options now that I was level 2.
[Basic Watchtower addition available. Cost: 25 wood, 12 metal, 3 energy cores. Adds elevated defense point and basic ranged attack slot.]
That sounded useful. I pictured the watchtower on top of the shelter and let the system guide the build. Pieces of the truck frame and nearby debris started to shift and lock together. A small raised platform rose up with rough walls around it. It was not fancy, but it gave me a better spot to fight from and a place to drop things on enemies below.
I used the armored hide to reinforce the front wall where the destroyer would likely hit first. The tough material fused with the metal and made that section thicker and harder to break. My hands moved fast, following the blue lines the system showed me. Every second counted.
But even as I worked, doubt crept in. What if this was not enough? I was just a guy who used to ride a scooter for money. Now the world had ended, and some powerful stranger wanted to take the only safe spot I had. The core struggle hit me deep. Survival was not just about monsters anymore. It was about people too. People who had power and chose to use it to crush others.
The system pinged with an update.
[Destroyer-class user now at 800 meters. He has activated his skill: Blood Axe Aura. All nearby beasts will fight with increased aggression.]
I climbed into the new watchtower and looked out. The monsters around my shelter had changed. Their eyes glowed brighter, and they threw themselves at the walls with fresh fury. Claws scraped louder. One wolf creature leaped higher than before and nearly reached the tower edge. I swung the pipe down hard and knocked it back, but my arms already felt tired again.
Then I saw him clearly for the first time.
The destroyer walked at a steady pace through the broken street. He was tall and broad, with short dark hair and a scar running down one cheek. His axe glowed red, and every swing he made at stray monsters sent blood and body parts flying. The beasts following him acted like they feared and obeyed him at the same time. He stopped about fifty meters away and stared straight at my shelter.
His voice carried across the distance, loud and mocking.
"You there in the little tin can! I saw your announcement pop up. First architect in the sector, huh? Cute. Hand over the safe zone and I might let you join my group as a servant. Or I can break it open and take your system points the hard way."
I felt anger rise in my chest. Servant? After everything I had just fought through? No way. But fear came right behind the anger. He was level 8. I had barely reached level 2. My shelter might hold against beasts, but against a real person with a stronger system?
The system gave me a quick scan of him.
[Target: Jaxor, Destroyer Class, Level 8
Skills: Blood Axe Aura, Forced Claim, Brutal Regeneration.
Threat level: High.]
Jaxor laughed again and raised his axe. Red energy gathered around the blade.
"Last chance, kid. Open the door or watch me tear it down."
I had only seconds to decide. Run and lose the shelter, or fight and probably die. My mind raced. The core of this new world was clear now. It was not just surviving the apocalypse. It was fighting other humans who had chosen the path of taking instead of building. I had the architect class. I could create and grow something real. He only knew how to destroy.
I shouted back, trying to keep my voice steady.
"This shelter is mine. I built it. If you want it, come and take it."
Jaxor grinned wide, showing teeth stained with blood.
"Wrong answer."
He charged forward with surprising speed for his size. The axe came down in a glowing arc and slammed into the reinforced front wall. The impact shook the entire shelter. Durability dropped from 180 down to 110 in one hit. Cracks appeared in the metal.
I acted fast. From the watchtower, I used the last of my wood to drop heavy debris on him. Some pieces hit his shoulder, but he barely flinched. His regeneration skill kicked in and the wound closed almost instantly.
"Pathetic," he called out. "My system feeds on broken zones like yours."
He swung again. Another big drop in durability. The front wall started to bend inward.
I needed a better plan. The system showed a new option under my level 2 upgrades.
[Emergency Spike Barrage: Use 8 energy cores to launch metal spikes from the walls. One-time use.]
It would cost almost everything I had left, but I had no choice. I activated it while Jaxor pulled back for another swing.
Sharp metal spikes shot out from the shelter walls like arrows. Several hit Jaxor in the chest and legs. He roared in pain and stumbled back. Blood ran down his body, but the regeneration started working again, slower this time because of the damage.
That gave me a short breathing room. I used it to reinforce the damaged wall with my remaining metal. The durability climbed back to 140.
But Jaxor was already standing up, eyes burning with anger now instead of amusement.
"You actually hurt me. Good. Now I will enjoy breaking you slowly."
He raised the axe high again. Red energy flared brighter than before. The monsters around him howled and rushed the shelter all at once.
My heart pounded as I realized the real conflict. It was not just this one fight. If I survived today, more people like Jaxor would come. Stronger ones. The world had reset, and the struggle would be constant. Build fast enough to protect what mattered, or get crushed by those who only took.
The axe came down once more, harder than the last time. The shelter shook violently. Durability fell to 95.
I gripped the pipe and prepared for the worst. The front wall was bending badly now, and I could see Jaxor’s face clearly through the growing gap. His smile promised pain.
The system gave one final warning in red letters.
[Safe zone integrity at 52%. Destroyer-class user preparing ultimate skill: Zone Breaker Slash. Defense failure imminent in next strike.]
I had one chance left to turn this around, but I had no more resources and almost no time. My mind searched desperately for any clever move while the axe began to glow with deadly power.
This was it. Everything depended on the next few seconds.

Chapter 151 The wall of code surged forward like a living tide. Zarek met it head-on. The hammer swung in wide, devastating arcs, shattering tendrils of golden data before they could reach his family. Every impact sent shockwaves through the ruins. Golden light and Overlord energy mixed in violent bursts that lit up the fractured sky. Behind him, Mira fought with brutal efficiency, her wrench smashing through any ghost that slipped past Zarek’s guard. Lira stayed close to her mother, swinging her small golden hammer whenever something got too close. Each time the tiny weapon connected, it flared with Elara’s light and burned through code. Elara floated above them all, small hands raised. She wasn’t attacking directly — instead, she was rewriting sections of the code wall, turning the enemy’s own weapon against them. Where her light touched the golden tendrils, they twisted and dissolved into harmless sparks. The three marked humans watched from behind the wall at first. Then th

Chapter 160 The bunker smelled of blood and ozone. Zarek sat against the wall while Mira pressed a torn strip of cloth against the wound in his side. Golden blood soaked through the fabric almost as fast as she could replace it. Elara floated beside them, small hands glowing as she tried to help seal the injury with her power. Lira sat a few feet away, hugging her knees, the tiny golden hammer still clutched in one hand. Her eyes kept darting to the bunker entrance like she expected the marked humans to return any second. Zarek’s breathing was steady, but his golden eyes were distant. The mark had gone quiet again after the fight. Too quiet. Mira finished tying the makeshift bandage and sat back on her heels. She studied Zarek’s face — the golden veins, the solid gold eyes, the exhaustion underneath it all. “You almost lost it,” she said quietly. Zarek didn’t deny it. “I saw it,” he admitted. “Joining them. Building with them. You and the girls… rewritten. Safe. Perfect. For
