CHAPTER 7:

The air in the Central Fountain Square grew thick enough to choke on. The weight of Trogon the Desolator’s aura felt like an iron blanket pressing down on everyone’s chests. Inside the jewelry store, several survivors collapsed to their knees, gasping for breath as their faces turned pale from oxygen deprivation. The Baron-Class Orc Overlord did not merely represent a high level; it represented an entirely higher tier of existence.

CLANG.

Trogon took a massive step forward, his iron-plated boot crushing a concrete dolphin statue into powder. The red runes etched across his heavy armor flared with a sickening, bloody light. He raised his twin-bladed executioner's axe, the dark purple energy around the blades hissing like angry hornets. He ignored the cowering humans inside the store. His blood-red eyes were locked entirely on Mark and the three mythical variant beasts arrayed before him.

To a creature born for war, only power mattered.

[SYSTEM ALERT]

Enemy Boss 'Trogon the Desolator' Has Activated Passive: Overlord’s Pressure

Effect: Allied beasts' agility reduced by 10% due to fear factor.

"Fear?" Mark muttered, his hand resting calmly on his hip.

Through the newly acquired [Shared Senses] passive, he could feel the emotional states of his beasts. There was no fear. Shadow’s heart pounded with predatory excitement. Sly’s cold blood boiled with toxic malice. Zephyr’s sharp eyes calculated wind currents.

"My beasts don't obey the rules of your system, Overlord. Zephyr, break his stance! Gale Force!"

With a piercing screech that echoed off the high steel rafters, Zephyr snapped his twelve-foot silver wings forward.

FWOOSH!

A localized, horizontal hurricane erupted from the Storm Eagle's wings. The blast of wind was so concentrated it tore up loose marble floor tiles, sending them hurtling across the square like jagged throwing knives. The torrent slammed directly into Trogon’s chest. The Level 15 Boss grunted, his ten-foot frame skidding backward by two inches as his axe lowered slightly to guard his face from the flying shrapnel.

"Sly, blind side! Shadow, shadow step the flank!" Mark commanded telepathically, his mind executing the strategy at the speed of thought.

Before the hurricane winds could disperse, Sly moved. The eighteen-foot Abyssal Viper slithered across the wet floor, his heavy iron scales rattling with a terrifying, rhythmic sound. He didn't attack head-on. Instead, he utilized his massive length to loop around the broken fountain, sliding through the shadows.

HISS!

Sly opened his massive, crown-crested jaws and exhaled a concentrated stream of [Toxic Cloud]. Rather than a wide mist, he fired it like a high-pressure jet directly at the Orc Overlord's helmet vents. The thick green acid mist hissed violently against the dark iron plate armor, instantly corroding the metal and seeping into the breathing slits.

Trogon roared in agony—a wet, guttural sound as the acid burned his eyes and throat. He swung his massive executioner's axe blindly in a horizontal arc, the purple demonic energy slicing cleanly through a heavy concrete support pillar nearby.

CRACK!

The pillar shattered, causing a massive section of the second-floor balcony to collapse downward in a landslide of dust and twisted metal. But Sly had already coiled backward, anticipating the swing through Mark’s shared vision.

"Now, Shadow! Abyssal Bite!" Mark barked.

While Trogon was distracted by the blinding acid and collapsing ceiling, Shadow executed [Shadow Step]. The midnight-black wolf sank into the darkness beneath a pile of rubble and re-emerged directly beneath Trogon's crotch armor—the single weakest joint in the Overlord’s full-plate defense.

Shadow’s jaws, wreathed in freezing black hellfire, clamped down with maximum force.

CRUNCH!

Sharp fangs tore through leather under-straps, sinking deep into the monster's inner thigh. The [Abyssal Bite] injected dark, corrosive energy straight into the Overlord's bloodstream.

Trogon let out a roar of absolute fury that shook the roof rafters. He brought his massive left fist down like a sledgehammer, aiming to crush Shadow’s skull with enough kinetic force to shatter a car chassis.

"Zephyr, Thunder Bolt! Defend!" Mark countered instantly.

A brilliant flash of blue light illuminated the dark square. Zephyr, hovering high above, released a jagged streak of high-voltage electricity from his silver beak.

KABOOM!

The lightning struck Trogon’s raised left arm perfectly. Clad in full iron plate armor, the Overlord's entire body acted as a massive lightning rod. The electricity surged through the metal plates, causing his muscles to violently spasm and lock up. The crushing fist stopped inches above Shadow's head, trembling violently as blue arcs of current danced across the dark iron.

Taking advantage of the paralyzing shock, Shadow tore away a massive chunk of flesh and leaped backward, melting back into the shadows before the Overlord could recover.

Trogon collapsed to one knee, his heavy axe resting against the floor to support his weight. Black smoke rose from his scorched armor, and green blood dripped steadily from his mangled thigh, hissing as it touched the wet marble. His combat power reading on Mark’s interface flickered, dropping from 450 down to 380.

Inside the jewelry store, Mr. Shola crawled to the edge of the broken storefront, his eyes wide and mouth agape. A nineteen-year-old kid—a former minimum-wage employee—was systematically dismantling a monster that could easily wipe out an entire military squad.

"He's... he's actually going to kill it," Mr. Shola whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of terror and envy. "He's going to clear the mall."

Mark stood entirely still, his hair rustling from the residual wind of Zephyr's wings. His face remained a mask of absolute, terrifying calm. He checked his beasts' stamina bars on his interface: 80%. The initial assault had been flawless, but he knew a Baron-Class Boss wouldn't die that easily.

"Don't celebrate yet," Mark said, his voice echoing coldly over the crackling electricity. "A cornered beast is always the most dangerous. Stand by for phase two."

As if responding to his words, Trogon the Desolator slowly lifted his head. The blood-red glow in his eyes didn't fade; instead, it ignited into a wild crimson flame bursting out of his visor. The red runes across his armor began to pulse at a frantic speed.

[CRITICAL BOSS ALERT]

Target 'Trogon the Desolator' Has Fallen Below 80% Health!

Berserk Skill Activated: Bloodlust Rage

Combat Power Boost: +30% (Current Combat Power: 494)

Buff Status: Immune to Crowd Control & Paralysis for 60 Seconds!

The Overlord let out a roar that wasn't human or orc—it was the sound of a demon. He stood up, the ground shattering beneath his boots as a crimson shockwave exploded outward, blowing back the toxic mist and clearing the rubble.

The real fight had just begun.
